I encountered a player while leveling on TWW. Tank Druid; running dungeons. Expresses that he’s using elicit/illegal substances to cope with a breakup. I told him that’s how my cousin died. I wanted to keep up with him and coach him because part of my career has been about recovery/substance abuse, but ultimately I knew I needed to report it because he kept going on and on and on about “let me take a bump” and it was highly inappropriate. When you report someone, it doesn’t put them on a Block list; but I did whisper him to add me on Real ID if he needed to talk to anyone.
So 1. Why is it that when you report someone, you can’t “unignore” them
Was I wrong for intervening and saying be careful, and discouraging the behavior because that’s how my cousin Tyler passed. I mainly reported because I wanted to cover myself. I was scared that me discouraging the behavior was going to be misinterpreted.
Happy TWW everyone, and I know a lot of people are hurting in 2024; but at least we have a great game to play.
Reporting them puts them on a temp ignore that goes away when you log out.
Now were you wrong in trying to help it was admirable and i get what you were trying to do but he couldve easily told you off some times its better to mind our own buissness.
When you report someone it puts them on temp ignore for that game session. When you log out/log back in that ignore is cleared. Mostly meant for spammers and folks you don’t want to see.
Discussion of illegal drugs is against the code of conduct, so that would be what a GM would act on.
Morally, that is not really something a CS Information Desk can help with.
he was very happy someone cared enough to message him. im just scared because i technically talked about said elicit substances too; but in a context discouraging them. i am going to keep up with him and hopefully help him out… was just very sad. glad i could at least Bnet him.
Good luck and well-wishes to both of you! While I’m a bit leery about the whole situation, I’ll trust you are a professional and hope the recovery process goes well.
It was in the dungeon party chat. He added me on bnet so doubt he reported me. Hopefully the other 3 wouldn’t report me for simply trying to help discourage the use… I feel so stupid.
I have a SOD guild I GM and an AOTC team i’m responsible for leading… But I just couldn’t help but try to help this person
In many ways now; I wish I said nothing, but that also feels like the wrong thing to do morally. Who knows. Guess I’ll just live with some more paranoia lol. Make no mistake; I was simply trying to help this 23 year old not throw his life in the gutter.
I luckily have had this account 18 years and haven’t had a single infraction. I hope I don’t get actioned for simply trying to help someone.
Honestly it’s just so nerve wracking that I feel the need to stop leveling, stop talking to my friends in disc (bc im their GM) - and make a post like this because 3 people may have misinterpreted what I was saying. All I can do is pray those 3 people recognized I was trying to be helpful. I’ve never been actioned. So I guess the max consequence is I get chat banned. Or who knows. maybe my account of 18 years gets permabanned lol
Bad news is nothing you say here will matter if you broke the rules and got reported gms dont come here or take context of the conversation into consideratio.
Good news is at most first penalty is usualy a week suspenion if its first offense perma bans are extremly rare and usualy you have to realy break the rules repeatedly to get to that point.
good to know lol - well ty for your help Darkwraith. I think this is a nothing-burger. I literally was telling someone like the D.A.R.E bear to not do drugs /shrug - edit - another blizzard customer service W. Ty to Orylia. So much.
I don’t see a single black mark on your record, Cartislaps.
Even in the unlikely even this was reported - and even verified, the first offense for language is just a silence. Now, they do increase from there but it doesn’t look like you have much of an issue in that realm given how old this account is.
