I usually find it’s best to wait a day or two before going all in with new mechanics/currencies. They are rarely not done correctly right off the bat.
Yea, this is also a practice i’ve started to follow usually after major patch, or new releases. Letting them tweak-out the new bugs and exploit people might find.
I can’t wait for the mess that is Pre-Patch 9.0 … Better take a week off then.
That shouldn’t have to be the case with a game that’s been around for this long with this much money backing it.
Posted in the blue post with the same-day update:
This is truly messed up.
I feel dumb for not remembering Blizzard is Blizzard. Lost out on a ton of echoes because of it. Oh well, lesson reinforced big time.
i feel like alot of people are under the impression had they logged in on a main first their alt would have gotten more echos…
Pretty sure its based on what you did that week
Well, it seems Blizz is going to remain apathetic to their failure. Whatever. Below is my final correspondence on the ticket I had opened.
Caveat: I have no qualm with the community engagement personnel (ie game masters etc).
I appreciate your response, your willingness to submit a bug report on my behalf, and I do understand the Game Masters and community engagement teams have no real sway regarding changes to game systems, please don’t feel that my comments are directed at any one individual.
With that said, I’m legitimately upset that the dev team pushed such an incomplete system to a live server. Furthermore, I’m quite concerned as to either A) the team not recognizing the system had a critical flaw or B) knew of the flaw and failed to communicate it until hours after the system was pushed to live servers.
Honestly, I wouldn’t be taking issue if the original announcement for the Echoes of Ny’alotha had explicitly stated that players needed to log into their “mains” (ie characters with level 3 essences) before they could be flagged as eligible for the echoes. Regardless, I would have still been concerned about the logic of not simply allowing characters to be eligible upon claiming their Heart of Azeroth and allowing un-used echoes simply be un-used (honestly, we still TONS of un-used legacy currencies and there’s no problem with those).
Ideally, myself and other players will see a reversal of policy on this issue and be reimbursed a reward they were denied due to poor communication or (worse) poorly designed game systems. At the very least, a public apology would be “nice” if even still inadequate.
You can feel free to close this ticket if you’d like. I do wish Blizz weren’t taking such an apathetic stance.
It was a poorly designed system, I think they just wanted to get it out quickly in hopes that all the “account bound essence” stuff would finally just end. It wouldn’t have been hard for the system to know what level 3 essences are unlocked on the account, it would be a rather simple db query.
The CURRENCY shouldn’t require anything but the player logging in. Fair enough that the essences don’t register on MOTHER until you’ve logged into that toon, but the CURRENCY??? Ridiculous.
I read before I started going at it, so I’m all good, but I still think players should be refunded the Echoes they missed out on because of this double digit IQ move.
Didn’t they do the same thing with Legiondaries when the new currency came out? They gave us all 1k wakening essences right?
Seems like the perfect solution to this mess to me.
People got zero on alts if they didn’t log into a character with a rank 3 essence first, so you’re a bit off the mark.
If you were excited to see what new loot your new Hunter got, for example, from their weekly chest and logged them first, they got zero Echos.
If you had logged into a character with a r3 first, they would get 175-300.
always log into mains before alts? idk
hope you can get those echoes though.
If it makes you feel any better my main didnt even get any echoes
I run 2 concurrent “mains” with my DH being the newer of the two (this hunter being the first). I was excited to have a catch-up and wanted to get into it on the character that needed and now I’m out 300 echoes
If your none of your alts have a rank 3 essence that your main does not already have, then your main won’t get echoes.
Agree, Blizzard should communicate this stuff even 1 day before the patch hits. I miss those days when they even post silly crash courses of the new stuff they introduced at the game
Probably all about a script. If the script doesn’t fire, the system would not know.
I would suspect a main to have at least 1 rank 3 already though.
also… My main has the rank 3s and they got echos. maybe because they qualify for the rank 3 of other specs but there shouldn’t be any alts with a rank 3 that my main doesn’t have.
I logged on an alt first because I always do on Tuesday to save my biggest disappointment for last. I didn’t know to log on my main first.
But my main got the currency though doesn’t need it. (Of course she has the rank 3s already)
Out of all my alts, all but 3 got the currency and I did dungeons on all of them last week. Weird.
