Did you guys like the new Lord of the Rings show?

Everyone has their own tastes.

I suspect Rings of Power will not be to many peoples tastes.

I couldn’t unsee the CGI. It was too distracting for me. Was looking forward to Lenny Henry as a hobbit though.

I like it. It reminded me why I’ve always thought Middle Earth was a vastly superior setting to Westeros. It’s high fantasy as its best.

I have read the books and seen the films even played the games but I have no particular loyalty to the IP so I don’t care what race any character is.

So far I like it as well. The people who aren’t even giving it a chance because of…reasons…well…it’s silly.

I don’t have prime nor I have no desire to see this show.

Because if there’s one thing Anthropology has taught us, it’s that Hobbits are all white. :face_with_monocle:

It was alright. I liked what I saw thus far and if Bojack Horseman taught me anything it’s that I should see the show’s first season through before passing any proper judgment on said show.

I’d better not say that too loudly, though; the rabid Tolkien fans will have me publicly drawn and quartered for saying anything positive about The Rings of Power.

I haven’t watched she-hulk but I did watch house of dragons and lord of the rings. I personally felt that hotd was pretty meh, it’ll probably get better. Each episode so far has been like a flatline until the last 10 or so minutes. As for lotr it was surprisingly good and I’m actually looking forward to the coming episodes, unlike hotd. Hopefully this will change as hotd builds momentum.

Oh yeah, we know people on the internet are super trustworthy.

Also not true haha.

Yep. Tolkien was a-okay with letting folk turn his work into other things in return for money. He was even fine with changes, if the $$$ was right.

I am probably going to skip the Rings. I did watch She-Hulk, there were a few eyeroll moments but there were some good laughs too. I also finished the Sandman on Netflix. I was mostly pleased with it though I think Gwendoline Christie was a mistake being cast as Lucifer Morningstar, especially so soon after the Lucifer show on Netflix ended (same character). Nothing against Christie. I genuinely like her as an actress, but that character was pretty much defined to me by Tom Ellis.

I enjoyed it. Nothing to jump out of my seat for… yet. But were only 2 episodes in, and Amazon generally does awesome work for their TV. More then they get credit for…

Na I don’t want to watch it. Peter Jackson’s LOTR holds a special place in my heart and I don’t really want to ruin that.

i only watched the first episode. as someone who watched all the movies, and never read any books, i enjoyed it. i dont know/remember enough lore and such to have any gripes.

from what i saw in the first episode, the production is good. none of the actors make me cringe. thats a big win in my book.

I have some bad news about the Hobbit trilogy…

Yeah I wish I never watched those. I delude myself into thinking it never happened.

I haven’t watch either yet. I’m letting Rings get some more episodes first because I hear the first two are pretty slow and She-Hulk I have no clue when I’ll watch it because I think I’m getting burned out on Marvel and need a break lol. I haven’t watched Ms. Marvel yet either.

It is not the fact that there are non-white people in some parts that is the main problem, yes it does not make sense since elves specifically were described as tall and fair in the books and non-white people simply did not live in that part of Middle Earth (although they do exist in other parts of the world), so adding people who would not be there just for the sake of representation is not a good thing and should actually be insulting to the people who they are trying to represent. Also, the fact that they made Galadriel an action hero and warrior greater than any others, even though she was not a warrior in the books and the overall theme of the dumb, mean to women (for no reason) patriarchy is lame. Not every man should be a helpless misogynist who needs to be corrected and saved by a strong woman. And not every woman should be the strongest, smartest people around, make it realistic at least.

I just watched it about 4 hours ago. Sorry for spoilers, I tried to keep it vague

My likes:

  • the Gandalf sequence if that's really him (actually reminds me of Diablo 3)
  • Galadriel is really a warrior compared to the here have a light bulb, some bread, some belts and a lock of hair. Maybe she should have hopped on the eagle and gone all Matrix Neo at the Black Gates

    My dislikes

  • The huge emphasis on the artificers and how similar it all seems to tinkerers from WoT. Although, I love the female lead in that.
  • Not enough of the Dwarven City
  • Skipping over 500 years of history in the first age with small references besides a really great children intro.

It lacks the terror and immensity of say the first scene in LoTR where you see the last Alliance of Men and Elves. It’s not terrible, just needs more impactfulness.
