Did you find easy choosing your "main" character?

Or you are like me, that doesn’t know what character do you like most, I’ve been around since 2018 and yet I change my main character so many times, I don’t know which class to commit and say “ok this one will be my strongest, with most renown, I will dedicate my time to it” I just change it over and over, sometimes a druid, sometimes a hunter, sometimes warlock, rogue, I just cant decide!! And its not only because of gameplay, but sometimes I’m playing in my hunter, which I like the gameplay, but then I think “damn I just have a pet, look at this guy summoning darkness and spreading pain and disease on people”

What’s a main character? Is it the one we play most? Because I have like 7 of those.

I mostly play spellcasters so I have a hard time choosing between aesthetic, gameplay and feel and balance of the caster classes, also I like pets so yeahhh :cloud_with_rain:

Its hard to explain, for me my main character would be the one that I try to get the achievements, transmogs, gear (althought some season my class would suck and I would have an alt more geared), reputation, time played and etc. Basically is the one that you would make sure that is not forgotten with the rest of your alts and that you actually like the most

I have a sense of dissonance on this topic because I think I’ve come to the conclusion that what I enjoy does not correlate with what I perform well in on high content.

Of my unique classes:
Monk - my monk is probably my ‘main’ character and while I can heal and DPS at a decent level, I find my performance falls off the higher I go in regard to tanking. At my core I think I’ll always keep all 4 monks somewhat geared.

Death Knight - I think my love for this stems from how well I perform on it. I feel my Blood DK is the ‘carry’ character for when I need a class that can haul some butts through content.

Warlock - Definitely alt box for me in regards to warlock. I do well on it but I’m just not aligned to pure DPS. Doesn’t do it for me.

Demon Hunter - I perform really well on this too (as does everyone I imagine) but it is more of a fun class for me. Current tier set makes Demon Hunter incredibly fun. Big props design team.

TLDR: Main is monk, DK my go to for push.

I said I was going to do one main this time but that was a lie once I remembered how much hps druids do in keys

This is my “main”. Always been my “main”. Though I have other characters at same ilvl, and some with more /played time. But this girl is always the 1st that I level to max level, and the 1 I always make sure I clear the raids on. Though, right now I consider her “done” so she’s on the shelf. She was my 1st max level toon ever. Been my main since 2009. I can turn into a cat, that sold me on the class.

My first character was my druid too because I could turn into animals, have the most /played with it, and it was my main for a long time, but its sitting on lvl 60 since the middle of SL when I dropped the game, but now I don’t know if I feel like playing it =/

I’ve pretty much stayed to the same warlock since I started playing, though this expansion I got a lot of alts, mostly for doing world quests and farming for things.

However the last two expansions I’ve leveled this one first, next expansion I will probably level a different neutral first.

I found it easy…

Paladin is a staple of Fantasy across many different games.

2004, just got off school hanging out with friends, playing “hotseat” Heros of Might and Magic; friend #2 pulls out a printed list of classes in this new upcoming game

Friend #1: Warrior
Friend #2: Hunter
Friend#3: Rogue

We learn about 5 man content being big in this game, so we rope my brother to join us. He picks Mage.

Looks like we need a healer everyone looks at me
Priest it is!

Priest been main class since

I wanted to play a character with the most influence on success based on skill. In Everquest enchanters juggled crowd control so that was my thing.

In WoW , tanks control the flow so I naturally gravitated to that. In vanilla warriors were the default tank so it wasnt much of a choice bit I ended up loving prot warrior anyway.

Depends what you mean by main.

I play 8 classes regularly, all similarly geared and I do this every patch.

My main, is this gal. Only because it’s the character I do achievements/collections with.

I ain’t doing all those reps again.

My main would absolutely be Hunter if it wasn’t impossible to get into PvP groups due to the sheer number of other hunters. Twas my main from vanilla to… MoP? Cool mogs, pet hunter. Thematically my number one.

Next is Priest but I’m having trouble wanting to play that currently too, as Shadow leaves a lot to be desired.

My 1st ever character was a draenei hunter, but I got her to level 18 and then started Druid. Druid is what I pushed to 80(i joined in WOTLK).

I only play casters and after poking around with a few characters, I’ve narrowed it down to this one. I had a Dwarven Mage that was exclusively for Archaeology, but after I got the Professor title, I deleted him.

I have no alts and only play this character. The nice thing about Druids is they can play any role. While my heart is Balance, if I ever get bored, there are three other specs I can investigate.

I LOVE MY DRUID!! :hugs:

I don’t change my class, just my race. I have been playing since 2006/2007, and this character has been Horde/Alliance a few times and every race several times. I get bored with them pretty quickly.

Had an easy enough time. Been using 2 mains for ages now, druid n paladin. i have a couple of each, but 1 of each of those is distinctly more geared than my other characters

As far as choosing, just kinda went with em since i had the most fun with em

These days I barely play the game as intended so I can’t really say. I have more playtime on a level 10 mage than any other character this expansion, I think. I’m currently investing most of my time into a level 30 Priest.

But up until the point where that nonsense started, I’d say I didn’t really struggle.

Basically when I raided, I’d just try out specs on the PTR and Prepatch leading up to an expansion (PTR is nice because it has template characters sometimes to get rid of gear bias) and pick one that felt fun and stick to it for the entire expansion regardless of any balancing issues. I didn’t like being the one to rock the boat of the group’s comp, even between tiers.

And after I quit raiding with a dedicated team I basically approached it the same way – try some things out on PTR or Class Trials or whatever I can, and pick one to main – but now it’s more for the patch instead of an entire expansion.

I don’t really get any enjoyment out of leveling for the sake of leveling so I do need to actually push into some endgame if I’m gonna get to max level, which means having an actual main. At most I’ll pick 2 to maintain at once – and a lot of the time one of those will drop off after awhile.

Never really struggled with this in-game. On the forums? Yeah. I had a bad habit of swapping my posting character to whatever alt I was having fun with at the time instead of just leaving it on my long-term main. That’s one of the reasons I switched to using a forum alt instead of actual characters.

I found it easy but then they ruined my class so I just chose mage
