Push Mythic raid and +17 and higher keys, you’ll see how much difference gear makes.
And when you see a 39k hp rogue in a bg one-two shot your alt, you’ll see the gear difference as well.
“Gear doesn’t matter” is poorest argument in WoW’s existence.
You could’ve used it when there was pvp scaling maybe, but now gear is more relevant than ever.
My entire guild plays the game to spend time with friends for the most part but that just makes it feel worse. I’m happy when one of my guildies gets good loot and is happy. I’m happy when I get good loot and they are too. If we all rarely get loot and the great vault gives the majority of people in the guild that actually do pvp, raid and m+ loot options that are duplicates, leggo slot or have horrible stats for their spec then that just amplifies your own dissatisfaction (and also makes you not wanna put in that effort) cause you see the effort they put into it and it sucks to see them go from “yall excited to see your vault??” after the first week of m+ to “so let’s see how disappointed I’ll be this week” after reset now. There’s a general air of “meh” now when it comes to doing anything but bgs and arenas and that’s because the pvp gearing system (finally) is appropriately rewarding while the pve reward system feels like a slap in the face. You can only take so many “35 anima” and “hey you can have this and disenchant it :(” in m+ and still be happy before you stop enjoying it. This game is about character optimization to a large part and people shouldn’t put in hours and hours of effort and still not be able to optimize their character.
Also wanna add that it’s largely Blizzard’s fault people care about gear so much cause with m+ having a timer and people automatically taking that feeling of having a timer into normal and heroic dungeons (and even timewalking), people pay attention to your gear even in normals and heroics. Blizzard has turned everything into a race against time and the higher your ilvl and the better your stats, the more you can chill in content that people with “worse” gear have to stress about. I only realized how insanely stressed some people are about grinding everything as fast as possible last week in timewalking when a tank wanted to skip an entire narrow platform of mobs that you would’ve never tried to skip before timed content was a thing cause it’s literally designed to not be skippable. And not getting loot makes people wanna grind content even faster (if they still have the nerves to even do it after a week of not getting anything from keys). Also feel like it amplifies the toxic atmosphere you get in pugs a lot now. It’s way worse now than in bfa imo and I ascribe that to people feeling like they don’t have the time to be patient with new players, not even in normals and heroics, cause they know gearing up their alts is gonna be a lot of work as it is and an inexperienced player who doesn’t know mechanics or routes yet won’t help with that.
I grow tired of doing a full heroic CN and getting one piece of loot that I already have or got something better than the item that I got. If were them, I would start announcing something to address this soon before more people leave this game.
I’ve stopped caring about the loot because it’s pretty much non existent. I’ve also stopped raiding as well. The lack of loot was a factor but the major factor is I don’t want to be on a schedule in this game.
I’m just going to level characters and hope the loot gets fixed in 9.1. If not, well might be time for a break.
Oh they were. BfA was a loot pinata they cried. Endlessly.
And they were especially angry with warforging and titanforging.
There was nothing wrong with the BfA model. So what is some casuals get a few really nice pieces of gear. Mythic players are still gonna be mythic level players.
Now loot is not only too scarce, it is kinda boring.
I like this xpac anyway, well, maybe minus the Maw, but there was no reason to change the way loot drops. The Vault should have been added IN ADDITION to what they have - not instead of.
I’m pretty sure this was Ion’s doing. He signed off on it, as he signs off on everything in the game as game director. And Ion has $10 million personal worth. So maybe he doesn’t need your help trying to make it appear like he’s living from hand to mouth and his family will starve if he has to go back and work for a prestigious law firm again.
A lot of changes were made to the game that they knew players were going to hate. The people who are responsible for a failure of the magnitude that this may be ought to be held responsible if the worst case scenario becomes reality.
This seems to be what they believe an RPG should be about.
After all my characters’ guilds on Zul’jin died in BfA - which was apparently an expansion that was very hard on social guilds - I started my own guild there. Both on Zul’jin and on Tichondrius I see trade chat full of many new guilds trying to recruit “exceptional” players. At this point in the expansion that seems atypical.
I think that changes made that resulted in pugging content being more difficult were intended to “encourage” people to join guilds. We hear so often on the forums that “just join a guild” is the solution to pugging difficulties. But most guild members still have to pug all their own content. The idea that joining a guild will make it easy for anyone to run content is a belief that a lot of elite players who never run outside their own group seem to share.
You know it’s such a easy fix for M+ also. Either make currency and anima drop at the end if you get no loot. OR put a 2.5 loot drop at the end of dungeon if completed in time.
At least this way people can be excited to see if they got a third piece in the group or not.
To be clear if done in time the M+ end loot will drop 2 pieces and occasionally can drop a 3rd if completed in time. Maybe even a 40% -50% chance to drop the extra piece.
Hell everyone in the group who didnt get loot could even have a 30-40% chance for loot if they wanted to be generous.
Corruption is what happened when “influencers” and elitists whined endlessly about warforging and titanforging.
And yeah, it was awful.
When someone who plays less than I do and say religiously does world quests and gets a really great piece of gear, I am happy for them. I see no reason why that takes away from my achievements or gear. I simply have more time to play the game and will naturally progress much further.
Speaking for myself…I don’t really raid beyond LFR anymore, and I don’t do M+ anymore, so this doesn’t really affect me. But…if it DID, if I DID raid, and people told me to PVP to get gear, I would quit the game rather than do that. I don’t enjoy PVP, and I’m NOT doing it for gear.
