…That the stained glass windows as you approach vezax’s room feature naga and queen azshara?
how is that possible? sure i know that azshara made a deal with an old god during the great sundering so her people could survive under water…but Ulduar was build by the titans not the old gods, and unless i’m mistaken it was built long long long before azshara made her fateful pact with the old gods.
Like inside the boss room? The corridor leading up to it has generic looking like mermaids and one yolked out titan looking king Trident from the little mermaid.
Nagas however do.
But Nagas are literally Highelves, transformed by the Old Gods, and came into being 10k years ago due to Azsharas pact for survival with the Old Gods.
And since Ulduar was build like in the primordial times of Azeroth, having a Naga being pictured in Ulduar is… weird.
so i mean it’s hard to tell because the stained glass style, but there are windows that leave 0 doubt in my mind that they are showing naga.
the one i’m claiming is azshara is a bit less clear cut, it seems to be a human-ish head on a tall black body with tentacles at the bottom. the main reason i make the leap to saying it’s azshara is the tentacle feet and the other naga windows near by
WOW. I never knew that! I have only played the game for 2 decades.
Kul Tirans absolutely made mermaids outside of the naga race canonical (Since the Mermaiden title was given to a naga once). Even the SIRENS that are there are it’s own race separate from the naga. The literally have a short story folk tale about it called, “Why the Mermaids Left Boralus.”
It’s not naga. Just look at the art before the Gen V room.
Maybe it has to do with the Black Empire well before the Naga. N’Zoth created the Black Empire and Naga. Normally stained glass when it has pictures are meant to tell a story. Starting out in the corridor before the boss room you see things like uncorrupted mermaid like creatures similar to the ones in Kul Tiran folk lore, which aren’t related to naga. N’Zoth could have made aquatic Black Empire races and when he created naga he “lifted inspiration” from his previous work. It could be showing the subjugation of those people and what comes next like a prophecy.
Could always check the hall of valor for more clues. Many people don’t know that the hall of valor was part of Ulduar until Helya ripped it out and put it in the sky.
I remember people trying to connect some of the stained glass to naga, back then blizzard stated it just looked cool and fit the vibe of the Descent into Maddness. Then MoP came out and tried to tie it to the Sha.
I have always considered the stained glass behind gen v to be the pictures of old gods and/or powerful beings that assist them. The lady with the snake I believe, since blizzard was heavily inspired by HP Lovecraftian horrors, was foreshadowing of Yidhra at the time of ulduar’s release. I thought a female looking version of an old god would be hype, but as far as I know we have only gotten ghuun as a 5th old god created by the titans on accident.
“Were the stained glass windows in Ulduar forshadowing of the Sha? They look very similar to the Sha.”
“Dave Kosak: I’d like to say we planned that. [Long pause] But I would be lying. I think it’s just a happy coincidence that fits wonderfully into our lore.”
