Diablo Immortal scores one of the lowest games ever in history

Maxing out a Diablo Immortal character could reportedly cost ‘up to $110,000’. Its analysis suggests that the highest tier Legendary Gems, a premium currency in the game which can be used to upgrade a character in the post-game, can’t currently be earned by players who don’t pay for them with real money.

What makes this worse is that currently, players can’t purchase Legendary Gems outright, instead, they are dropped from Legendary Crests, which are the game’s loot boxes.

Matt and Michael of Bellular News also make an argument that Diablo Immortal’s Legendary Gems are a deliberately convoluted system, explaining that it would take roughly 10 years of playtime for a F2P player to fully kit out a character in the game’s current iteration. Specifically, Legendary Gems aren’t even a guaranteed drop for paying players, as they are only randomly awarded upon purchasing Legendary Crests (i.e. loot boxes) .

So, if want to play with out paying into it expect to never reach levels of others for a long time. Blizzard expects players to want instant gratification and will give up money to get it the quickest way.

Once the cash begins to dry up Blizzard will start having discounts and give aways. But, it what Blizzard was trying to make a easy cash cow that doesn’t need much work to get it working.

it’s funny how a game made by a Triple A studio can rate this low. That said it’s probably just mostly mad PC gamers that would never play the game anyways but it’s still funny.

What’s even more insane that estimation for BiS has gone up even more now to $500,000 usd since these whales/pro players have been actually putting their wallets to the test.

That’s fine. What do I care what other people have?

Honestly I barely played D3 and have a lot of other things to occupy my time so it may be a while before I get around to playing Immortal, if ever, but I sure won’t be concerned about other people’s gear when and if I do.

blizz has taken nothing but L’s when it comes to creating games for the last few years…when was the last real, “lasting” hit they released? overwatch only lasted like a couple years (way less than BW or SC2)…besides, OW was designed by one of the best blizz OG’s, so I don’t even count that one personally.

Modern Acti/blizz just gains bad press with any release now. :grimacing:

i bet dreamhaven and all the originals are happy to see it. :100:

You can still sink 100’s of hours worth of gameplay into the game w/o facing any serious barriers.

Stop being so dramatic.
This is a free mobile game that has an insane amount of content for every type of player to enjoy.

And, as far as I’ve seen, the only P2W element is unlocking epic rifts to get higher chance at getting better items.

1.3 eh. I think Superman 64 beat that score and that was arguably one of the worst games of all time.

The thing is, it didn’t have to be. The development behind this game could’ve warranted a real box price tag and a cash shop would’ve been hugely profitable even if it was purely cosmetic.

Blizzard is big enough to change the paradigm of mobile gaming, apparently just not brave enough.

Normally I don’t defend anything that Blizzard does but people already knew going into Immortal that it is nothing more than a cash grab yet they are still angry about it.

The issues are how far of a gap is there between p2w and the f2p groups, and is there a hard wall that you hit in-between the two.

Can you get to same levels by just playing, or is it such a hurdle to climb over that you will have to put some money in to just get close?

Is Blizzard calling free to play while knowing that players will never get to same levels if players do not pay.

Right? I am not sure what people expected.

Seeing ‘review bombed’ in the title tells me all I need to know. Typical internet outrage. The game could honestly be perfectly fine to play for free, but if it has something in it that upsets people then all of that goes out the window in favor of said outrage.

This is one of those times you can do both, not play it or not buy anything.

My understanding is that it goes above and beyond “standard”.

I expected it to be a cash grab. But wow…like ive dropped cash on mobile games that I really enjoyed and have been playing for YEARS. D:I is just kind of crazy who they are making this game for.

And I was prepared to drop some money on diablo immortal. but its kind of crazy how pricy it is. And that none of it is account wide. Want to play with friends on another server? too bad. play a different character? too bad.

China, honestly.

Why are people surprised. People work at jobs and make a lot of money and don’t have time to sit at home and game.

It’s more convenient in a mobile game format to play on the fly and spend for rewards. Also mobile games get constant updates which is only possible because of whales supporting the game
