The rewards from world content in DF is not so bad. Obviously not as good as Legion or BFA but still better than Systemlands or WoD. So, I would rate the rewards for doing world content in the middle as average. Which is perfectly fine from my view.
The problem with DF world content is how buggy the content has been since DF beta. DF beta was relatively short and not enough testers. We can do only so much with how bugs and issues are resolved. We just send it it and hope BlizZard has the staffing to fix it in time but the expansion is winding down.
But the biggest problem with DF world content is the sharding and phasing tech is broken beyond belief. Trying to do world content solo, duo or larger groups is really painful and a massive deal breaker when you are thrown into another instance.
I would wager that if world content rewards were higher like in Legion more people would do them. But also a result of having greater participation is more players voicing feedback that phasing and sharding tech is completely broken.
Right now for whatever reason BlizZard is not really aware how broken their phasing and sharding tech is in that players trying to do world quests find it very frustrating and makes the game feel like it has less overall content. There is content to be done out in the world but the problem is that you are constantly fighting the phasing and sharding tech.
I disagree that the world content is better in DF than Shadowlands. But that’s not really the main point of this post. I fully agree with your main issue.
I remember when the Fyrakk assaults came out. Day 1 I logged in, excited for a new world event. Go to the area, the map says it’s active… but it’s not…? Confused. Wait a little bit. Apparently now it’s starting because Fyrakk and his guards are in the zone heading towards us. Oh, he despawned?
He spawns again. Hesitant but I wait. He finally shows up. His elite becomes attackable. The assault for some reason resets and once again the Fyrakk bar is filling up when moments ago it was at 100%.
Not to mention the actual assault quests to loot the keys and chests etc was pretty bland gameplay.
I took a nice break from WoW shortly afterwards and my hope for any good DF world content was squashed.
I’ve played on EU/US and I mostly play in Oceania.
Doing something in Oceania - no issue. Maybe phase out once every few months (outside of my own action, e.g join a party, turn off WM). Likewise on EU
US players however have it really bad where it happens on a daily basis. I suspect it’s not all bad news , probably means y’all have a ton of players on many servers. Downside means it interrupts your activity often.
assuming you’re talking just about DF, i agree. the openworld content in DF is the worst it’s ever been. that includes the zones, questing, world quests, events, rewards, collectible farming, etc. you can tell Blizz has completely deprioritized the openworld experience. as a pretty much exclusively openworld player, i did not enjoy DF at all.
The open world content in DF is not great but it is not as bad as WoD. The fundamental problem is you can’t really judge DF content when you are constantly being put into another shard with no choice.
You see though most US realms are not that full where sharding is necessary. In fact sharding is being used to make it seem more populated. But the over use is causing issues trying to do any world quests.
Yep, the sharding is really brokenly bugged.
I’ve lost count of how many times I got sharded out of a (actually) rare encounter into a empty plains.
Also, the many times while doing Researchers under Fire where it would throw our raid into a new shard WITH OR WITHOUT people joining/leaving the group.
The latest one happened 4 days ago, in a Fire Elemental Storm in Azure Plains while fighting a rare solo. I got really pissed.
not even close. WoD had treasures, and archaeology, and rares with great rewards, and collecting followers, and probably the best questing out of all the expansions. and i’d count the garrison as openworld too, it just needed to be instanced to work.
huh? sharding doesn’t affect my openworld experience at all.
The problem with DF’s world content is that there’s so much of it, and most of it is RNG on top of RNG, that it feels more like chores.
I already feel like there’s too much to keep up with and there’s still plenty of stuff I haven’t bothered with at all (Primalist Future, Tuskarr fishing, technochromancy or however it’s spelled). It’s overwhelming. It’s like a checklist that keeps getting longer.
I do agree about the horrible sharding issues. That’s been very tedious. But overall the open world content has been fantastic. No more of the awful, multi stage world quests from SL thankfully. Everything is straightforward. Plus we have so much more in the world other than world quests. I think bringing back emissaries would be good though. They were always a nice bonus.
I mean fun is subjective but I would strongly disagree that the rewards are worse. You can collect entire class tier sets purely from open world play. That’s huge. And the Emerald Dream open world sets are some of the best they’ve ever made imo
The sharding is a problem, but another problem that will really show itself is the timers for the events in season 4. Some people will be lucky to get one event done a night with how the timers work and sometimes overlap. If you are unlucky enough for that, you will be spending 3 days to get the weekly emissary thing done. Now if you are an open world player and/or an altaholic good luck getting 1 or 2 characters a week through everything.
