Devs speaking out against blizzard

I am efficient with severe ADHD and an ability to hyperfocus. I don’t work like a normie. I do more in my 3 hours than most people do in a full day. I’m salaried. My job gets done, I get paid what I get paid regardless of how many hours I actually put in. I used to ask for more work to fill my days when I was in the offices, which led to me being willfully abused by my employers. I learned my lesson.

So youre saying working more than 3 hours a day is abuse?
Unreal. Id downsize that office so fast if I were your employer.

If all you have is 3 hours of work then yall have too many employees.

No. But the 70 hours a week I was working doing my managers job on top of my own was abuse. The gaslighting, the manipulation, corporate psychology is a hell of a thing. I work for a small business now, the owner appreciates and values me. She is impressed with my work ethic and efficiency, and also believes that there is more to life than your job.

RIP her business if shes paying people a full salary for 3 hours a day.

SHe gonna lose it all

You’re making a lot of assumptions about a business you know nothing about. We’re fine, we will continue to be fine because there aren’t enough healthcare workers in this province and there probably never will be. I’m sorry that my ability to do my job well triggers you so much.

??
what?

bro i WISH i had the option to stay home and work but i gotta work in a warehouse

stop complaining

Lots of people here crying about those who can do their job remotely.

You should cry more about greedflation, and the things that actually impact YOUR life.

I don’t see the same amount of crying about those who are successful and don’t have to work in an office. Don’t be jealous. It’s a bad look.

It’s like some want to punish anyone who does things different than they do. Don’t be so lazy. Worry about yourself, and stop being such a Karen.

Yea Blizz employees ARE being babies for not wanting to come into the office a few times a week. BUT, if there are similar employers who are offering remote work at better wages then Blizz is goofy, dumb and in the wrong for letting so many leave.

I don’t work from home, but I also don’t have to deal with the general public more than 2 hours at a time at my job. Little traffic, but longer commute (I work overnights). Gas is going up again, at one point was ridiculously expensive, and parking in California is a nightmare. I can’t really blame them for not wanting to deal with that.

I worked for a gas station during the Pandemic, so I’ve never been able to WFH. From a logical standpoint, if people are more productive at home, let them WFH. If they’re more productive in the office, let them come into the office. They have most of the data from how employees performed while in the office vs. WFH, that could easily be the judge of who to retain and who not to, on the WFH vs. Come In To Work debate.

People who are lazy, like someone else said, are going to be lazy everywhere, not just WFH. As someone who’s worked with co-workers in a retail setting and otherwise all of my life, you have people who are dumpster fires and a liability as far as ethics and job performance goes, and people who you can trust to self-start and time-manage on their own. They’re being absolutely ridiculous about all of this as far as the WFH thing goes.

As far as the creativity thing, society has ruined that. Can’t blame Blizz for homogenizing everything so nobody gets offended. They’re a business, they’re worried about cancel culture, they’re going to do anything and everything they can to continue to make money.

I guess Anduin and Taelia are currently on the DO NOT SHIP side of the board.

Why though? Too traditional?

“I want you to listen to me very carefully, Bobby…My eyes are open.”
(Blizzard executive leadership in 2008)

So the CEO who is responsible for the entire company is over paid? He is accountable to the stock holders to make money or hes fired. He spends way more hours working as an executive than any 40 hour a week designer ever does. All executives do.
A developer or whatever low level employee is responsible for so little compared to the executives. They are accountable to no one really and in most cases just sit at a desk and stare at a screen. SO not worthy of executive level salary. You earn the money and arent entitled to it cuz you showed up for work.

Show me 1 Blizz employee on welfare and tell me how Blizzard gets corporate welfare in California. I promise you they pay way more in taxes in 1 year than you ever will in your lifetime.

This is where you are wrong. Those at the bottom are easily replaceable but finding good executives that can run a billion dollar company and make millions for the shareholders isnt. The entitlement is off the charts to think a mid level or lower employee deserves executive level salary. Unreal.

I would think the 50’s were better because of the following reasons…

  1. Employee not always on the clock like today - less ways to contact worker
  2. Housing, Cars, Big Ticket Items, etc. were more in reach / affordable
  3. Less Bills
  4. Moonlighting was not an issue
  5. Owners are better to work for than the Board and CEO’s

You do understand most decisions are a coin flip once senior staff have provided their findings, information, etc.? Any senior with actual experience in an area the executives deal with can replace the executive but more likely the executive could not replace the senior? Senior pay should be on par or better than executive pay. I work in tech and the only time this seems to be the case is with an Oracle DBM.

Show me the deed to the factory you own, otherwise stop LARPing as a CEO in the hopes they will throw some crumbs your way

Doesnt surprise me, Activision is about to be sued by investors who own arguable more assets than Activision is worth. Blizzard just settled more league stuff out of court after promising great ROI, and is constantly trying to pump-up esports/streaming.

Doesn’t surprise me employees arent believing in the business model, on-top of returning to office. Activision/Blizzard just needs to scrap the 1000apm and espprts routes on every platform and game. Clearly it’s something thats not sustainable.

I wouldn’t be a senior dev for a company that tries to prop-up their failed investments constantly. They’re constantly thinking throwing enough money at everything will solve their issues. Bobby is great at making money, but he’s such an idiot when it comes to everything else outside of making capital. Once more litigating cases start propping up, I’m willing to bet the board of directors is going to be gutting the C-suite staff.

I largely suspect the anti-remote crowd here is just a bunch of 40-50 somethings that are upset things aren’t “how they were back in my day” types. Or they’re just intensely jealous that other people have jobs they can do remotely. Irrelevant dinosaurs.

I used to commute 1.5 hrs each way to work, now I’m fully remote and have all that free time to myself. Damn it feels good to not work for those kinds of companies and/or bosses.
