Why would they want to chat with us on the forums? We’ve got bridge trolls here who are loud and proud lol
I sincerely doubt the devs have sufficient coverage in their employment benefits to give them the therapy they would need after speaking to even a small portion of us.
I suspect there is an inverse correlation between how often someone posts on these forums and their level of sanity.
Truly what a naive suggestion.
hahaha that’d be nuts!
“Hey, let’s chat all you most miserable people that play the game. Let’s hear how I suck, or how my mother failed as a mother.”
I can concur, all these threads are either trolling bait or about raids and stuff… the only really interesting one left I visit with regularity is the Waggle thread.
Remember when CMs roamed the forums?
Good times.
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
You’re right but on a hilarious side note I tried to find the show/movie that this gif came from by typing the text in the gif into a youtube search bar.
I didn’t find the scene but I was directed to resources for my mental health.
As if we could ever agree on what we want them to change… Probably better for them to have interns monitor forums like flies on wall and let them know when something is trending. Then they can filter through the muck for the few useful nuggets of feedback and think about possible changes.
If they come to us directly, who would speak for us? We can’t all talk at once. What if I get a turn and express opinions opposite of yours? Would you feel heard? How would that help?
That’s why Project Zomboid, Grim Dawn, and Factorio all have more players and rake in more money, right? If only Blizz put out road maps to let us know what they’re working on…
The Devs have retired onto a small island in Azeroth in wonderful personal housing and are living large on all the stuff they took from our guild banks.
A lot of years have passed since the days of Community Managers and Devs coming in to chat on the forums. I would imagine the harsh criticisms are difficult to take. They can’t please everyone, and it feels like they are almost always in trouble with someone. Can’t say I blame them. If I were just doing my job, and not the one making the calls, but getting yelled at because of it, I might be a bit nervous too.
Greg Street used to do that, and I remember Bashiok doing it and for a little while and I remember when Lore tried, nobody liked him. Maybe things are different now but the forums used to be a brutal battle ground.
One specific example there was a thread that was made an older woman in her 40s or 50s just wanting to know how many of us were out there. That thread got so nasty and rude people were just coming in and saying the rudest crudest things to us, and there used to be a lot more. This was probably ten or twelve years ago.
With how many people have absolutely zero control and fly off into attacks and sometimes even death threats at the drop of a hat, I’m not surprised communication between devs and players stinks.
“I just want to talk…”
Absolutely not
“People leaving groups before runs are over should be punished!”
blizz adds deserter debuff
same players asking for punishment gets punished
“What this is stupid this shouldnt exist. Why is this a thing. I didnt do anything wrong”
GD ina nutshell
Also they do chat with us somewhat.
Some of the forum regulars who are quite toxic and dismissive of issues of the game and try to demean people to win at arguments would be quite eye opening if you figured out who was behind them.
Its mostly rmt boosters doing that, but some devs are sunk cost fallacied into defending their bad game design and do it too. There is a reason the gatekeepy trolls do not get forum actioned.
Echo chambers are nice and soothing to listen to, if all you want to hear are defenses of what youve worked on.
I’ll use my most formal and civil Shath’yar.
When i was a child I used to smuggle my GI Joe’s or Star Wars action figures into church and play on the bench when everyone else was doing cardio.
To this day, I tend to bring my own fun with me.
The best is when those characters interact
“Let’s get out of here!”
“I don’t have a spaceship”
“It’s okay. I’ll protect you with lightsaber”
“Watch out! It’s Cobra Commander”
They should hold a type of Reddit AMA. It would be loads of fun for everyone.
