Devastation spec bonuses

I think Dev was killed for everyone when Aug became a thing

free 30% haste with a 25% proc chance on 30 second cd abilities vs 12% damage boost to your main spells which ended up doing like 11% of your total damage? Flat damage buff please

That’s what I voted for but tbh a little disappointed with how every set looked. Visually it felt like the developers didn’t love the new class they made.

being so reliable on your burst window (and having it last 1minute) is bad for M+ and bosses with downtime. having a tierset that increases our overall damage is the best way to go

I only pvp on mine so I still played dev as aug didn’t really affect dev in pvp that much. Season 2 set bonus was hot trash for pvp

100% this.

I mean, I don’t PvP but they’re stuck with the set bonus too my dude.

Terrible idea.

Season 2 but haven’t been particularly fond of any of the 4p so far. Free hero seems fun but don’t like low chance procs and doesn’t give much during a lust pull. But as long as it isn’t s3 that’d be nice, it sucks for dungeons.

If anyone is coming here that’s missed a tier or just forgot, you can copy/paste the link below to jump to wowhead’s article that lets you compare the appearances and the bonuses:

oof i am so torn between s1 and s2, s1 was a lot of fun bc of the haste windows; but s2 was really good for numbers in aoe. at least to my view it was lol lots of numbers made my brain happy and plus it wasnt 100% reliant on cooldowns like s3 is

Overall context for people unfamiliar with the effectiveness between each of the three tier bonuses and generally how they affect Devastation (primarily in PVE):

  • Season 1’s tier bonus can be fun: Getting mini personalized Bloodlust windows feels great and can give you a lot of gains in damage and even potentially let you get extra DR extensions if you’re lucky enough, but ultimately, it’s heavily RNG dependent and often times, it’s great to not rely on RNG as often as possible. Passive extra crit on FB/ES can also be nice, though the proc is just six seconds of another 5% crit chance, though for overall and not just for your empowered spells.

  • Season 2’s tier bonus is extremely consistent: Having Disintegrate and Pyre apply a DoT effect is strong for overall damage, and having a way to empower the damage of the DoT by casting FB/ES adds even more onto it, is very versatile for any moment of combat without being wasted, and encourages you to play around it by spreading out your empowered spell casts by five seconds between them. The only downside is that it does stupidly low damage in PvP.

  • Season 3’s tier bonus is about equivalent in damage gain to Season 2’s, in terms of a PVE encounter. Having Dragonrage give a ramp-up on damage and then a lingering buff that floods you with Essence Burst can feel great to play for some people, especially if you like spamming Disintegrate (a good Dev player in a raid with this will have ~45% or more of their damage done by Disintegrate in single target/cleave). This becomes problematic both in raid and M+ due to its duration in actual practice resulting in wasted downtime and essence burst procs due to either raid mechanics or downtime in M+ between pulls, since it’s something you have to actively maintain and utilize for at least a full minute (including Dragonrage duration).

tl;dr: S2’s tier bonus in PVE is the most reliable, versatile and consistent out of the three, and can provide a huge chunk of damage without having wasted potential varying on encounter while also giving something to play around rotationally. S1 is unfortunately inconsistent/RNG-dependent, and S3 requires so much upkeep over an encounter that its potential can be easily wasted by factors outside of your own control. I don’t entirely mind S3, and I have fun with the S1 proc and find it fun when it happens, but S2 is just by far the most preferable for PVE.

Unfortunately, while S2 is the best in PVE, it’s damage in PVP sucks, but there’s more people doing PVE, so the vote’s going to be swayed in that direction. I wish there was a different vote for the PVP tier pieces, but it is what it is, and I’m not going to even try and debate the argument of whether or not it’d make some PVEers feel like they need PVP tier to get a different bonus they’d prefer.

EDIT: For clarification, at the end of the day, vote for what you prefer and you would want: That’s why it’s a vote, this is just my own splurge based on personal experience of playing Devastation for all three seasons combined with actual numbers.

People really out here voting for empower spells to apply a simple dot instead of getting free bloodlust windows… wasted opportunity

Season 1 is where it’s at. You get a 6 second lust! Season 2 is all passive and completely boring. It’s a trap

This de facto means we have less of a burst window for pretty much the same reasons you have for not liking the s2 bonuses. S2 is better because it isn’t RNG and it gives us back the impact of Dragonrage.

People saying S2 was bad for PvP don’t seem to understand that if we were otherwise tuned to the same level as right now, but with the S2 set, we’d have a more impactful kit. We still truck currently because we’ve been aura buffed to the moon, but more uptime inherently means less damage per unit of uptime and that flattens our damage profile. A flat damage profile is generally worse for PvP than one that has more peaks and valleys.

Also makes the spec less brainless and more fun to play. The current tier set promotes maximum zug.

Ok

  1. I like maximum zug

  2. The dot from S2 would be frequently removed in PvP from dispel/CC. And the trade off for the DoT coming back will probably be Disintegrate getting nerfed if Devastation is over performing
