I want to dethrone my guild leader, who has been gone for 9 months. I am the next ranking member, but there are many empty ranks between the leader and myself. so the “dethrone” button is not available on my guild info pane. My alts were part of the original leadership and officers, but that was 12-15 years ago when we were an active guild. In the past 12 years, it’s mostly empty, with a few people who have an inactive alt parked in the guild (like the leader).
Unfortunately you will not be able to. If you are not of sufficient rank, there isn’t anything you can do. At some point the guild leader decided he never wanted to be dethroned and made it so they couldn’t happen by leaving the higher ranks unoccupied.
If you still have a way to contact the guild leader, you might see if he’d consider coming back to make you lead. Otherwise you might be better off starting/joining a other guild.
I reached out to the guild’s old facebook group just in case they are still connected to that. If their WoW account is inactive, would they be able to pop on here to talk to a GM to ok the leadership transfer so they don’t have to buy game time?
They’d need to do it through a ticket, Caensa.
Honest question, not trying to be snarky, but how do you actually open a ticket nowadays? I hunted for over an hour this morning to open a ticket for this issue, and all I found were the FAQ guides, the forums, and a place for archived tickets, but could not find a place to actually open a new ticket.
Well, it will do you absolutely no good to put in a ticket. If this can be done at all, it will have to come from the guildmaster.
There is no category this would really fit under, but the generic link can always be used. Battle.net support - Blizzard Support
If HE wants to make that request, we could consider it, but I cannot make any promises. Dethroning is something we are pretty much hands off anymore - but the current guildmaster is welcome to ask.
CS has told me in the past that if you’re of insufficient rank, that’s the end of the discussion.
I was the original GM of a guild that I was the only other person in, and despite the GM being inactive for two years AND having created the guild, that there was nothing that could be done.
And that is exactly why Blizzard won’t intervene and gave Guild Masters the ability to not have anyone in the ranks that could dethrone. It’s not unusual for someone to take an extended break, sometimes years long, and coming back to having your guild taken over with no chance of recovering it can be demoralizing.
I’m not looking to submit that ticket myself, but I am attempting to contact the current guild leader (who is not the original leader), and would like to provide an easy link or how-to for them to start the ticket instead of sending them on a wild goose chase looking for it.
Best they can do is ask for a day of game time just keep in mind free game time is very rare anymore never hurts to ask you can also go to walmart or bestbuy or a convienience day or they and buy a 60 day time card and send them tje code they can log in transfer and log out as long as there within the right rank to dethrone
This is the reason most set there guild up so that there is NO chance of any other players taking what amounts to a lot of work when your talking about an OG guild that’s been around since WoW first came out. Would absolutely be gutted to have my guilds taken in this manner.
If your guild is that empty, why not just leave? It’s been 12-15 years since anybody has been on, not sure why you would want to take over a ghost guild.
