I think I dismissed the “Dethrone” message for my guild and now it no longer appears for me or my alts (which are all rank 3). Is there any way to get that Dethrone message to pop back up? The guild master has not logged on for several months, so is definitely still inactive.
I do believe it’s going to cycle through all of the characters eligible to dethrone, so if the person in line after you doesn’t accept, it should come back eventually.
That said, if someone else does dethrone before you do, Blizzard’s hands are tied.
Ouch… none of these other guys are paying attention. I’ve been the only person to log in consistently in months.
The option should still be there. Go to your guild panel ( j on the keyboard should be default) and on the right side, the bottom icon should be “Info”. Click on that and there should be a message in there that will let you dethrone
Yeah, that’s where I’m looking and it’s not showing up there, anymore. I thought it would stay there no matter what, but it’s gone.
Should I submit a GM ticket in-game?
I had to give it a second to show up, but it was there even when I clicked on it and chose cancel, it still was there.
GMs are hands-off with this now so I don’t think they’d be able to help. Are you positive the GM hasn’t logged in at all in the past 3 months? What does the roster show?
Roster shows 5 months for the guild master
It’s your posting character’s guild, right? I count 24 characters eligible to dethrone. You might privately (because it probably won’t show who currently has the option, and I’m 90% certain it goes down a list instead of giving the option to everyone at once and making it a free-for-all) ask one of them to take over and see if they’ll hand it off to you.
So, I’ve tested it out on an old guild where I haven’t logged into the guild leader in over 3 months. Here’s what it looks like for me on both a rank 2 and rank 3 character:
Even though I logged into the rank 2 character, I still have the option on a rank 3. If it’s not there, it might be worth a UI Reset to see if that helps.
Hmm Ok I’m going to try a UI reset. I do have a lot of interface addons.
edit:
Still not showing up.

Just to check, if you scroll down it’s also not there right?
It’s been awhile since I went over the details but as far as I am aware, the option is available as long as no higher ranking member has been active for 7 days.
From what I can see a few characters in rank 1 were active on the 30th of April. Assuming they don’t log back in, give it a couple of days and the option may reappear.
From the Guild Dethrone page:
An active guild member can use the Dethrone button to claim ownership if:
-
The current guild master has been offline for at least 90 consecutive days.
Note: The 90-day timer only considers the login activity of the guild master character, not other characters on the same account. -
They are guild rank 1, 2, or 3, and logged in within the last week. To see your numeric guild rank, find your guild on the World of Warcraft community site and view the Roster . Higher rank characters get higher priority for notifications.
Note: It may be possible for ineligible characters to see the dethrone notification, though they’ll receive an error if they try to claim ownership.
Once the above requirements have been met, the Guild Master Inactive! option will appear with a notice to eligible members in the Guild News & Events feed.
Ah ok, yes, that makes sense. Thanks, Vrakthris.
