I’ve been leveling a paladin slowly in classic and I can say with all honesty that it is boring due to it being cast a seal and wait on your auto attack. What I do like about the old classic paladin is the seal’s and auras. That and the class quest’s were very rewarding for a lore nerd like myself.
Upon my return to the game about a month-and-a-half ago I came back in classic.
I started playing bc WoW in 06 back in burning crusade only after I gave vanilla a try and didn’t like it
After I gave vanilla world of Warcraft a trial for 7 days, I thought it had no polish whatsoever.
I next’d Vanilla so hard after that.
I’ll gladly wait for it burning crusade server expansion.
BC > Vanilla
Ehh realistically you don’t grind every day if you don’t want to
For example once most people hit 60 and get pre raid gear they pmuch just log on weekly for raids and that’s it really
Only if you’re deciding you want to get mass amounts of gold or level professions or do random pvp do you spend forever slaving away
On the other hand the honor system in Classic is a legitimate incredible grind that requires insane dedication to keep up with
Even though I like Classic I can’t imagine any version of WoW that’ll have me playing 12 hours a day consistently (for R14). But you can stay pretty casual on Classic of at your own pace and still compete just fine. BfA requires that consistent grind that you have on a fresh classic character that never ends at all. That’s the real difference, people can quite reliably feel “done” with a character. BfA even if you’re a hardcore mythic raider that partakes in every form of the game you still have to just grind that away every single week because of hopes of titanforging and stuff like that so it’s actually a hard comparison.
Once you’ve leveled Classic is quite relaxing (also why people rushing it are silly imo).
That feeling of being ‘done’ is something I really miss about PvP vendors. I loved gearing my main druid in MoP and WoD by pushing rating really hard at the start of seasons and then starting my alts 6-7 weeks in with the catch up conquest. It made it where I didn’t have ‘work’ to do on my main. Anytime I logged into that character it was purely to queue with the best gear available to PvP. Then eventually I would get my Rsham geared 10-14 weeks in and it felt the same way with that character. I probably played the most (12-14 hr days) back when I could finish gearing a character and then just queue for rating and fun.
It’s something the current iteration of the game is really missing for Pvpers. With RNG WF/TF and the socket system it almost feels like you’re gimping yourself and your team if you aren’t pushing for the highest ilvl and socketed piece of gear for each slot. It makes the work the focus of each season and the fun only a byproduct of the work instead of the main focus.
Tbf though, that’s comparing randoms to arena. Classic didn’t have arena and if it did, I’m sure the grind would be less casual. Like in randoms, you don’t need the top gear so you can still be pretty casual.
I mean the only other thing you’d do for top gear in classic is like… honor grind if arenas existed which I agree are pointless
But PvE gear is nearly equivalent anyways and really easy to get too
There’s still just not anything to mindlessly grind outside of like I said, honor once that’s out and I don’t disagree that it’s a stupid grind but everything else is really easy. It’s also just all limited to raiding, there’s no ability to titanforge so once you’re done with dungeons you’re just done with dungeons. It’s not really comparable at all.
Gear right now, for randoms, is really easy as well. You can be casual in random Bgs these days. Different for rated, I know
I agree with you, seems like Dillion is comparing being a casual in vanilla vs a hardcore in retail. When in fact retail is much more casual friendly. Even the grinds aren’t bad. I have lvl 66 neck and a few rank 3 essences on this guy I’ve only been playing less than 3 weeks (and only a few hours a day).
Just do a few emissaries and send troops on missions from the mobile app and tada!
Not to mention retail is much more solo queue friendly.
I’m not really
Literally the only exception is the honor grind
No matter how good you are you’re just going to do your weekly raid lockout for gear, the only thing endless grinds otherwise give you in classic is gold or things like that
Raid Gear is pmuch just as good as most of the grand marshal gear so it’s relatively easy for anyone to just go in and have gear. Even if you’re a hardcore player right now… All you can do still is just your weekly lockouts lol, once you have your best dungeon gear there actually is just not anything you’re going to get out of it, this is entirely different from retail. You will almost never be done with M+/Raiding/PvP for gear and it’ll all reset every season, but there’s much more longevity to gear in Classic on top of the fact that you CAN be done
Like if you did actually go out of your way to nolife Rank 14 which I again think is entirely pointless (honor not even out anyways) you would still have an end to that grind.
The fact that you just get to a point where you finish a character outside of your weekly raid is why some of the streamers who have just been hardcore playing classic are making alts since you actually will just run out of stuff you have to do lol, this applies no matter how hardcore or casual you are, you cannot compare it at all to BFA
Classic-wod once your character was geared you didn’t really have to worry about their gear until the next patch though
This 1000% I’ve been 440 since like week 3 of bfa and feel like if u don’t do a 10 key or cap I might miss out on a TF piece or good socket from chest.
Fact is they never (rarely) come. You feel like nothing you did accomplished anything. Your left feeling like a hamster.
Vanilla gear progression feels more honest and attainable.
You know the % chance of getting x item,
Your not hoping you get x item and it rolls Y titan forge and gives you a socket too.
Bfa is rng x30 and nothing you do feels that rewarding.
Playing the game is stale and nothing dies in arena.
Even having some the highest burst available in the game it’s hard to keep up with destros and rmx #546376 because they passively heal more than You can pressure in between their insane goes.
It creates a very dull meta where you don’t feel like there are areas of your gameplay you can improve on so the PvP player exp progression rn is lost.
It’s literally a “well they had more gear or played meta specs “ guess I’ll go into m10s to hope I get a 455 socket bis stats replacements for my 3 slots that can be upgraded.
To maybe have a slightly better shot and ending a game before the 15 min mark.
But randoms in bfa you can be just as casual as you are in Classic, maybe even more so since there is Benthic gear, which you can get from your main for your alt, before you even step foot in a random BG.
Sure but you can’t compete with that same dedication like you can in classic which was my point rofl
If you take things very casually and just do weekly raids it is so easy to compete in classic, it’s really low effort and it’s super obtainable to get to a point where your character is “done”
And even then the one grind that is ridiculously hardcore in Classic still has an end and it does not even give that significant of a lead over other people
It’s not comparable
But then you also want to find groups. It’s not like now where they cap premades at 5 mans. But like you said:
You have to find groups on live for M+ and raids too lol
It’s actually much easier in my experience to find groups on Classic because the game naturally forces you to group with other people
I’m not even trying to just roast BfA and say classic is the greatest ever, but I think it’s a huge misconception that gearing is just as endless in classic as it is in BfA
I thought we were comparing random bgs to random bgs though.
BFA and classic are both bad just that classic is considerably less bad. Stop arguing about which poison is worse
No? I was mentioning that grinding gear is much easier on Classic than it is on live
If you do anything like BGs on classic it’s just for fun unless you’re just psychotic enough to grind rank 14
This is what I was talking about from you. What else do you compete in?
