Destro & it's weird niche that doesnt work with its design

Destro (as most ppl know) basically sucks outside Infernal cooldown.

Yet Destro is also built around 2T cleave via havoc.

most fights (not all) involving cleaving are not stacked by each other.

meaning infernal doesnt benefit from the specs niche usage…but also is a large amount of the specs dmg output.

Why is this still a thing?

I don’t post much but when Shadowlands talent trees came out I was vocal about removing destro as a 3 min spec. I don’t like having a good 30 second window followed by a flat 2.5 min down time personally and I feel a majority would prefer sacrifice brought back as it was years ago so the spec is less boom and bust.

I don’t raid but looking at the logs it looks like they just took the damage stacker to cb out during infernal so it could do low damage just about all the time in longer fights lol.

I liked it more when we had Infernal as an AoE CD and the Doomlord as the single target CD. Infernal single target feels strong and all, but it feels like an AoE cooldown. I’d rather have both with shared CDs and being able to choose between them.

Old GrimSac and GrimSup were way better too.

I use Rain of Fire, Cataclysm with Channel Demonfire as my AOE rotation with the infernal if it’s an big group or an elite or boss.

If destro would reign supreme in 2 targets cleave then it would be far less of an issue like it was at the end of BFA thru GoS and Rolling Havoc.

If the top 20 of huntsman would be filled with destruction lock like cleave fights were at the of of bfa then it would de facto be a lot more viable. Yes single target it would still be a bit behind but it would be stronger no doubt. Aoe would not be top but would be more sustained outside of the long cd since it would be strong on at least 2 of the targets.

The main problem right now is destruction is not even good at what it supposed to be. It’s an awful 2 targets cleave spec. An absolute terrible single target spec. And an aoe spec relying on a long cd. The only place where Destruction is strong is Deepwind Gorge where you can reset the infernal CD and take RoF and unleash infernals the whole game and laughing in the face of the opposition while they melt.

The guy who worked on the admittedly needed destruction nerf is a terrible designer who happen to also be terrible at math. He had to nerf the spec a little. He literally gutted it and left it to die.

Yup that’s basically what the incompetent in charge did. He removed GoS and then did not add anything. So now CB is meh all the time Infernal our not. So yeah we do more under Infernal obviously cause the Infernal itself does a lot of damage but it’s significantly less strong than it was in BFA. Yet when it comes to sustain damage nothing was added to compensate. Niet. Nada. Absolutely nothing valuable.

My issue with Destro is chaos bolt just doesnt hit hard enough for a cast time… even with a 25 % buff from the legendary and kyrian mastery and dark soul i rarely hit over 13 k … templars verdict hitting 14 k divine toll doing stupid damage … judgements hitting 10 k all instant cast abilities. star surge from a boomy is instant cast and crits 15 k ??? ferocious bite 15 k … convoke always has a full moon proc for 20 k plus …i dont think chaos bolt should be buffed anymore because i dont want a one trick pony … only chaos bolt doing damage isnt the answer. our shard regen is horrible . and honestly whats with the 40 % increase bolt damage in pvp only ? taking some of that and transferring it baseline would help in pve . why is dark soul ( A TALENT ) purgable? pally wings cant be purged druid incarn cant be purged, shamans ascendance cant be purged like comon blizz at least fire mage has purge protection with combustion and have a way to reduce the cd on that specific cd… why dont casters have disarms but every class has an interupt ? I mainly pvp but even if i 90 parce im underperforming by the biggest margin. in pvp we just dont have pressure because even a buffed bolt wont do the damage an that instant cast abilities do. We need something or you need to nerf some stuff blizz k thx

honestly I think it would be a nice change if they baked the current infernal shard generation into immolate. My meaning is that you would generate soul shards at that speed if at least 1 target within 40 yards has immolate on them. I would not suggest letting you stack this per immolate, just having it if anything is immolated would be a great QoL buff.

I have a post running on the forum with this suggetions:

  • Give us 10% buff on CB. Totally reasonable, won’t will break in pvp/raid/m+. If it gets close to break the class when we reach bigger status trough the higher ilvl equipments just nerf it back. At the moment the skill even worth to cast. It’s our main damage but we don’t cast it enough to a 10% buff hurt anything on the balance dynamics.
  • Buff 10% CDF, it’s our main M+ damage, the skill works pretty good in small and big packs, but not enough, it need to have a higher base damage so critical damages can make a difference. At the current states we spent a whole dynamic to use it, thinking in the right moment to cast, so we don’t have to move or anything, and the reward is some awfully small damage. And maybe it turns useful in pvp.
  • Buff 12% ROF, again, we need this for be viable on m+. For real? If we get 10% on this and CDF we will still get behind in AOE damage, so what’s the problem? And again, if it brake totally the spec, just roll it back. And it would give us some elements on pvp to force the enemy to move out of the area. Let’s get real on this damage, the skill consume 3 chards, why it hits so low?
  • Havoc should get +3 seconds duration without the legendary. This again will bring us a good improve damage. More dps in 2+ target cleaves, more chard regeneration in pve and pvp. And havoc shouldn’t have GCD at all.
  • Our stun need to get a lower cast time, a small buff like -0.35s on cast would be really appreciated in pve and pvp.
  • Better infernalist procs, recently I got like 27% haste status and tough the procs wold be better, but they don’t. So I use like 3/4 ROF to one prc. And the infernalist uptime need some buff too. Give us like 4% more procs and +2 seconds uptime.
  • Give us some reduced damage after using teleport. Something like 5 seconds with 30% less damage.
  • The warlock portal need to be instant or have faster cast. We can’t use it in arenas, and on mythic+ we lost damage in some paca bcs we need to move before the group to set portals, and we don’t have enough damage to lost precious cast time in the pacs.
  • Tune our covenant habs, that drain life in NF doesn’t work, it even worth to use in any situation.

The post is " A CHALLENGE TO THE DEVS "

They should embrace the stupid cleave mechanic instead of leaving it in this broken state A simple SIMPLE hotfix patch change that can be done: Remove the cooldown on Havoc. Boom its a cleave spec.

Been saying it ever since they made it usable by all specs. Make it instant cast.

Demonic Circle and gateway should remove roots and slows. Makes no sense for the root effect to teleport with you.

Yes nerf night fae into the ground muahahahaha (i hate night fae)

it’s sad bcs they even read this forum

  • Chaos Bolts should hit harder
  • Summon Infernal should be a 2 min cooldown
  • Rain of fire needs more damage and larger AOE
  • Cataclysm needs to be baseline
  • Havoc should transfer more damage

I think that sums it up. In other words we are garbage at every situation right now.

  • Soul Fire becomes base line and should be a resource generator like in BFA or another rehaul to weave in between the CB burst rotation. It’s a talent that will never get picked because if you don’t need flash over at any point in the game you go eradication it feels like a wasted spot as a talent.
  • Infernal to 2 min to put it on par with fire mage kindling with wilfreds they function the same just 1 is worse than the other.
  • more dmg / aoe radius on rain of fire
  • haovc slightly longer duration + more dmg %
  • allow incinerate to be cast while moving like it was in MOP.
  • swap placement of eradication with fire and brimstone. This felt like a really good placement in legion.

It’s just not viable for the SL meta. Everything else can insta cast so much stuff and move around and we’re stuck with our main ability being a super hard cast that is sub par in pvp and pve content.

we need damage buffs across the board
RoF needs to have it’s shard reduced to 2 or 1.
Immolate needs to be instacast
Incinerate should be able to be cast while running.
Fire and brimstone need to be baseline on a toggle and affect chaos bolts (like it was in WoD)

~Devs reach warlock forum~
~See a topic full of viable and small buffs~
~Just roll down and say to his own mind: “Didn’t Read LOL”~

Havoc needs to either be nerfed or reworked and the spec’s base damage buffed to make Destruction do acceptable damage. Making it stronger seems like it’d be a good way to buff the spec in it’s supposed niche, but it just makes the issue of Destruction not being functional in most situations worse, since the spec’s single target damage is balanced around this spell that’s only usable to it’s full potential in the rare occasion that two targets are up for an extended period of time.

A buffed Shadowburn being baseline would be fantastic for it’s mobility and execute potential, plus it’s synergy with Havoc is always fun.

Either Rain of Fire needs to be made a lot bigger and Cataclysm made baseline, or Destruction’s AoE model needs to be reverted to the old design of Rain of Fire as a shard builder and Fire & Brimstone as a togglable shard spender.

Fel Flame or Kil’Jaeden’s Cunning (either the passive Incinerate version or the active Spiritwalker’s Grace clone) need to come back too. Being an immobile turret isn’t ever going to be viable in today’s WoW.

No. Havoc is already too weak.
This was an issue back in the day when havoc had 20 seconds duration, 100% damage and 0 cooldown.
The current version of 65% damage, 12 second duration and 30 sec cooldown is actually way too weak.

I find destro is just in need of a overhaul. Having it play out as a build and spend resource spec does not work since it’s cast focused and gear based. During the start of the expansions we have always been weak in recent years. At the end we are broken or on par with others thou the use of secondary stats. They just need to do something different maybe make incerate give us a chance to have a insta cast chaos bolt or something. It would help in pvp and pve that is for sure since we cast incerate enough as it is.
