Deserter Debuff

The current deserter debuff needs to be reevaluated in its entirety.

A 30 minute debuff is excessive and punitive to degree.

In its current state it does more harm than good due to the excessive level of toxicity in this community.

Disagree with someone? Bam! 30 minute debuff.

Damage a little lower than expected? Bam! 30 minute debuff.

Someone doesn’t like how you play? Bam! 30 minute debut.

A 30 minute debuff in addition increasing wait times for LFG or BGs is discouraging legitimate players from even playing.

what is the alternative, letting tanks and healers or even dps hold the group hostage by being afk forcing you to kick them so they can just requeue instantly?

also blizzard literally made it harsher during season one of retail, so they are dedicated to the deserter debuff being a thing

Just lower the debuff from 30 min. 10-15 should be enough.

Ran hundreds of heroics when cata launched, maybe saw 2 people kicked from runs for being afk and needing items they couldn’t use.

In the last weekend ran about 20 twilight dungeons and saw people kicked in about half of them for low dps, messing up a mechanic and wiping us, rolling on loot others wanted, etc.

Getting a 30 minute debuff because a 3 stack friend group didn’t want you to roll on an item one of them wants is not good design.

The alternative is a debuff lasting 10-15 minutes.

Cumulatively, with the current debuff and wait times, you may get blocked from LFG for an hour or more for nothing other than pissing off someone in a bad mood.

How does this occur, from start to kick?

How does someone get kicked? Is that what you’re asking?

How does someone get kicked because of loot conflicts that aren’t related to rolling off current spec. I’ve seen the others but am unfamiliar with kicks for this reason in partial guild runs.

If you’re being kicked frequently enough that it’s causing issues then I guarantee it’s not because someone doesn’t want you rolling on “their” gear

Solo Pug Warrior joins a rdf group with 3 friends with one of them playing war or dk that wants the 2 handed sword.

3 friends vote kick the solo pug warrior so their is no loot competition on sword.

Solo pug war now has a 30 min debuff.

I’ve never been kicked but seeing people get kicked in almost half of my groups for 1 reason or another. Messed up a mech and died once on a fight, instant kick. Only did 12k dps on the first trash pack, instant kick. Healer couldn’t heal a dps standing in a mech, instant kick.

You should be able to kick people, but 30 min debuff is too much.

How long do they wait before they kick you and how do you know it’s for loot specifically?

Saw this exact example happen yesterday to a pug warrior. 3 stack friend group kicked him right after we zoned in. I asked why in chat and was told he would have rolled on the weapon they needed. They gave him a 30 min debuff to avoid loot competition on an item that probabaly wouldn’t even drop.

With a 30 minute debuff, 1 time is an issue. If someone logs on to do 1-2 dungeons and gets kicked for no fault of their own, they just log off.

Hard disagree. Punishments need to be punishing or else they’re ineffective

Frankly, the battleground deserter debuff should be extended, not the other way around

Did you fight any mobs first or did you stand for 3 minutes before he could be kicked? What was the reason they put for the vote? Does it always happen like this when people get kicked for loot competition?

When you’re being punished for being afk or an a**hole yes.

When you get a 30 min debuff because the 3 stack friend group doesn’t want you in their RDF run, no. Or if your dps is a little low but the dungeon can still be completed. Or you accidentally mess up 1 mech once and die.

I’m not being kicked but I feel bad watching groups kick people after 1 mess up on a mech or when they’re doing 70% of the dps of other players. Just for them to get a 30 min debuff.

Right. The system is working as intended. It’s unfortunate that rarely an innocent person will be caught in the crossfire, but you have yet to present an alternative that both ensures the people who deserve the punishment receive it, and those who don’t deserve it aren’t punished

Reduce the 30 min debuff. That’s my suggested solution. 10-15 accomplishes the same thing imo.

And it’s not that rare for people to get kicked right now in the twilight dungeons. They’re actually challenging and you have to respect all the mechs. So other than the loot competition kicks, 1 mech mess up and you could be looking at a 30 min debuff. Not all groups are instant kicking. Had several that continued after a wipe with no kicks.

But this vs when I first did heroics on cata launch is a night and day difference with the frequency people will kick others.

And I disagree

It absolutely is

We cleared like 2 packs and they initiated a vote kick on a warrior - “bad warrior”. He was kicked before I even had a chance to inspect him. Didn’t see any issue with his dps.

I asked why kick? And was told he would roll on loot they need.

Can you now paint a picture of some of the other loot competition kicks you’ve seen in your experience?

Maybe I am having bad luck then. In almost half of my 20 or so RDF dungeons this past weekend someone was getting kicked. Some were 100% warranted. People in complete PvP gear doing 8k dps or failing mechs 3 or 4 times in a row.

But seeing people kicked for no real reason and getting a 30 min debuff didn’t seem right.
