Deleting Your Own Topics With Posts

Clicking the trash can on a topic with posts presents: “You don’t have permission to delete this topic. If you really want it to be deleted, submit a flag for moderator attention together with reasoning.”

However, clicking flag only shows ToS violation reasons:

"It’s Inappropriate
This post contains content that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or a violation of our code of conduct.

It’s Trolling
This post is inflammatory, extraneous or upsetting.

It’s Spam
This post is an advertisement, or vandalism. It is not useful or relevant to the current topic.

It’s a Real Life Threat
This post is threatening to a user.

Author has an inappropriate name
This post’s author has an inappropriate username."

What’s the correct way of going about this?

Once a topic has been responded to, it cannot be deleted as it’s now a public forum conversation and not exclusively your topic any more.

Deleting the only post in a topic however, will flag the topic for deletion.

Nok is correct in their interpretation.

If you’d like to have a topic deleted you can file a support ticket with your request and the moderators will review it:

Kalviery,

Thanks for responding. Two things here:

  1. Ticket# 80160661 - CS told me they can’t delete content from the forums. “Customer Support is not able to hide or delete content from the forums.” Note that I submitted the ticket under the “Forums” option.

  2. The “If you really want it to be deleted, submit a flag for moderator attention together with reasoning” message received from trying to delete your own topics implies that it’s supposed to be done through a flagging option, so that’s adding to the confusion, and there of course is no “Other” option to select or a place to add your own reasoning.

Any additional assistance you can provide will be appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, so I’m sorry - your original post made it seem like you were asking for a specific thread to be removed. Moderators will sometimes honor these requests - like removing a Guild Recruitment thread when the guild master request it (changing servers, disbanding, whatever the reason).

Based on your ticket, you’re requesting the complete removal of all posts from your Blizzard account. That’s a bit more involved and not something we’re generally going to offer.

Understandable feedback. These forums come with a lot of tools/options and we don’t utilize all of them. In some cases we’ve specifically restricted some options.

For example, the forums have a Direct Message system that we do not enable.

I expect this UI element you’re referring to is citing default forum options that are not available due to customized settings we use. Apologies for the confusion it resulted in.

Kalviery, indeed that was the intent of the ticket, so I was going to do it myself but it seems I can’t do that either :frowning: Oh well. Thanks for looking into it and have a wonderful weekend.

I was curious. I don’t know if you are allowed to answer this, but why is the direct message system disabled?

What do you mean ‘direct message system’? Do you mean live chat? If so, because it been limited due to the current events.

The ability to message other people on the forums directly is I think what was meant.

That wasn’t a thing on the wow forums, there isn’t any private messaging on the forums. Do you mean the @(name) system?

This is what I meant.

I was not involved in that decision specifically so I couldn’t say with certainty.

If I had to speculate, I would guess that it was because there are already social systems built in the game and on Battle.net to facilitate conversations with friends/other players. Those systems are already tied into our account management and moderation tools.

DMs on the forums would have required additional development time that likely wasn’t worth it for essentially a redundant tool.

Most of the WoW forums are for players to discuss the game with other players. Private messaging defeats that purpose.

The feature, if it were enabled, would likely be abused. Players would likely get harassed a lot more because the comments wouldn’t be in public view.

Alright. Yea. I can see how it could be kinda redundant.

I can see this too.
