Got tired of jumping around and keeping up on more than one character. My enjoyment for the game tanked when I attempted that.
I’m trying to decide which single character to keep for all content. I primarily play m+ as a healer but do like to DPS as well. I also heal in PvP, mainly SS or BGs, and also like to DPS there…
I’m thinking Shaman since it has two DPS specs and a ton of utility. Also thinking monk since MW is probably the most fun healer IMO. Paladin is a strong option as well.
I’m probably not going to play my Druid. Although I like the class, I like to see my tmog. However, I’m open to pretty much all.
Thoughts? Would love help deciding which to keep.

Abandon this quest.
I’ve had to transition from EU to NA. It’s not the clean-slate or fresh start you believe it to be. Even if you go ahead with deleting characters, you’ll simply be un-deleting them in 2 weeks time.
If you like healing I’m not sure why your logic is to keep Shaman for 2 DPS specs.
You enjoy healing most. MW is the healer you enjoy most. Just play your Monk. WW is also a really really fun off-spec.

Shaman is a choice. There is a lot of suffering. If you go the path of No Sword, you should look into the Shaman forum.
Great class order hall mount though.
I’d say wait one more year before you delete. In about a years time, when they bring a bunch of systems into an account wide systems, you may benefit from some of the characters you’ve kept.

Well, they are already deleted…
Main reason I primarily look at the DPS specs is because I like pretty much each healing spec. To me, it’s the DPS specs that differentiate the classes the most.
Uh, I feel like it’s important to know what you’re gonna do with a char. You can play alts without doing reps, chores, etc, it just depends.

You don’t need to delete your characters to focus on one. that’s why they are called mains and alt’s.
Just focus on the one toon…Transmog, gearing, professions ETC. it’s okay if the others just kinda gather dust, you will regret that decision later.
I will normally Xfer all the gold and any other mail-able items to my main and go from there.

i still recommend you keep your alts. you dont need to gear every character, but sometimes they can be nice to farm cosmetics that are time gated.
i have 1 of every class but basically only play this character and my paladin, but i used my hunter and rogue to funnel the leather emerald dream set to my dh for example.

I’ve felt the same, but honestly I suggest keeping a few characters, hear me out here:
Even if you “don’t play them” you can use them as profession mules and dungeon / raid running mules for transmog soon. I believe they’re changing it so all transmog can be earned / kept regardless of what class you pick it up on. So you would get more chances of rare mog drops, pets to sell and / or mount drops too.
I believe you could level them to “bare minimum level” to get professions maxed and put farming professions on your main character to use them all to make profit and / or items for you to use that would be helpful too. As for what main class to keep if you’re unsure then my suggestion would be to keep a class that can do all specializations so in the event that perhaps healing is bad you could DPS or Tank and not feel bad about picking a “bad class” later on. That’s what I have been thinking about too.
It is quite difficult to keep up with many characters but they do have their uses. Just think carefully before you throw it all away and waste your time. At the very least keep them, don’t delete them and if later on you aren’t happy with a character you could transition and make another one your main to focus on if you suddenly feel like you don’t like shaman, druid or etc.
These are my suggestions. I hope you find one that’s right for you though. I know the struggle of finding that “one special character” to keep and focus on. I’ve done that before and ended up hating the class I kept and just started leveling alts again for the above reasons I posted.
Happy Winter’s Veil to you.

Hey OP, I’m your kind of crazy.
I’ve probably spent something like $700 in boosts since it came out and I think I’ve deleted all of those characters. ALL I WANT is ONE SINGLE character to experience the game with. To do EVERYTHING on but I can’t find it because what DK lacks, Rogue has. What rogue lacks, Paladin has, What paladin lacks, Mage has, etc etc.
You need to REALLY stare at that character creator and make the choice and basically FORCE yourself to never swap to make this work. When we were young, we’d look at the character creator and see stars. Limitless potential for our favorite thing that looks cool. I always got hype whenever I’d see a rogue in bloodfang armor and so my first real main was a rogue and I played it for years. But I got bored and tried out mage, and then warrior and then paladin, etc. I switch my “main” every year or so but I wish I could just stick with one character and push it to the absolute limit.
If you’re a competitive player, that can be difficult because of pressures from your friends, your guild, “tier lists” and esports streamers making soyface videos saying that X class is super freaky busted OP while YOUR class as stupid and bad and nobody should love you.
I find it best to ignore that type of stuff and really try to dial in to these things:
-
Is your class FUN? A class/spec can appear to be aesthetically PERFECT for you. The mogs, the animations, the weapons and abilities are so sick, but if the overall gameplay loop is unfun or boring or tedious then you’re going to hate it. Pick something that ABOVE ALL ELSE, is fun to play.
-
Does this class have your favorite role? What about other roles you might be interested in?. Try to pick something that has something really fun for you to do as your main, but also offers another option or two you might like. Shaman IMO is great for this. Enh/Ele are both really fun/cool IMO.
-
You might enjoy this class doing world content or PVP, but you might HATE the way it plays in M+ or Raids. Identify your preferred modes and work around that.

Ask yourself: "Can I see myself doing EVERYTHING on this character? For me, the answer was no. It’s just not feasible to be able to do every single little thing on one character unless you go out of your way to dedicate yourself or force yourself to do it.
My solution to the above was this: I have 2 or 3 characters per season or per expansion. I know myself. I have a wandering eye. I see someone make a spec look DOPE and I have to try it out. Or I see a cool mog i can’t access on my class and I wanna get it. I begin each season on my rogue. That will always be my main, but sometimes I don’t want to play my rogue and that’s OKAY. I just make sure to keep her up to date, I do all achievement related stuff on that class and then I look at what I want to be doing each season and then I pick an alt to run with. Sometimes I change my mind and stick to rogue, sometimes I make that third alt.
How you play the game is completely up to you and there’s no shame in having alts or “main hunting” even though I KNOW it can be so frustrating. Not to dismiss people with the actual diagnoses but the the way I will agonize over the choice of picking a character in WoW has got to be on the sheet for OCD to some degree.

You can refrain from playing alts without deleting them.

I don’t get deleting characters like that. In my opinion, the only reason to delete is if you are out of space and can’t afford a second account.

It’s a purely mental thing. It’s like… clutter on your desk. It’s also a trick your mind plays on you to the effect of: “If you don’t have all this clutter, then you can REALLY focus on your main without distractions!”
Actually, it’s a you thing. Not everyone feels that way. I see unused characters as potential for some future plan. I sort characters by most played.
I have a friend who just deleted everything, including her bnet. That’s more extreme than the last time when she deleted her characters and guild. I have no doubt she’ll be back in the future and have to rebuild from scratch.
Yeah, I’ve seen a few people do this in various games.
Giving away gold, wiping chars, deleting account, etc, just makes the eventual return a bit more annoying.
These days leveling is so fast you could start a whole new account if you wanted and smurf like the pros do.
Btw you didn’t really delete all your characters unless you did later on, but I’m going with you didn’t. And if you did you can account recover high level toons nearly indefinitely unless they changed something.
You have to literally call them or put in a ticket and request account deletion and they have to.

Surely it goes without saying that anytime someone says something it’s anecdotal
I would agree that there are others like you. But I think those who feel the need to delete every character they are not using at this moment in order to make their character screen less cluttered are a small minority.
How will you know next patch if your dk or priest is now fun if you don’t have them to try out? You’re stuck with one character at a time.
And that’s all I was trying to say to the OP, is they’re not alone with stuff like this. It’s maddening to think this way, but often times I can’t help it. I have systems in place to prevent stuff like this from happening because I’m aware of it but that “indecision” can be crippling at times.
Ladies ladies there’s no need to fight there’s plenty of Padgarre to go around!
