Why not just make LFR so easy that it doesn’t require a tank or healers? Its not like people play LFR for the challenge.
Blizzard should just get rid of the tank role and buff the survivability of all other classes.
This can’t be a serious suggestion.
What exactly does tanking add to the game?
Removing such a core MMO mechanic from the game is not even a viable topic of discussion.
Clearly, you have no idea how MMO game design works. This isn’t Fortnite, PUBG, or Call of Duty. Your idea not only is bad, but it would destroy this game.
But Blizzard already removed threat management from the game. Almost every boss encounter in modern WoW already has loads of mechanics that all players, not just tanks, need to overcome.
So that’s why I’m asking you, what role does a tank have in this game? From what I can see tanking exists simply because Blizzard thinks it should, not because the game actually requires it. In fact, your entire argument for tanks seems to be “because that’s how MMOs should be”.
No it wouldn’t. Every queue pop would result in utter failure and make the game look stupid.
Wouldn’t work. There’s too many DPS and too many of the DPS who just want to pew pew and can’t interrupt, move out of the bad, focus priority targets, or handle mechanics.
People don’t roll tanks or healers because other people treat them like crap, especially while they are learning, and still expect them to know every optimal route in every instance, every mob ability and mechanic, and perform flawlessly 100% without doing more DPS than the DPS.
The only way to really speed up queue times would be to remove 75% to 90% of the trash and put portals that take you closer to each boss. These things are only there to waste time anyway and largely offer nothing for killing them. That would at least make the instances themselves complete faster which would drastically reduce queue times.
That or find a way to get 4M or 5M people to come back and stay.
That would require dumbing it down further to not require a tank, no thank you. They should instead find more ways to encourage people to tank.
What are you talking about? What sort of “depth” does tanking add to encounters?
"Wouldn’t work. "
It works in plenty of other games. You just have no experience with anything other than ancient tank and spank MMO gameplay.
Helldamnnno.
No it wouldn’t.
Warfronts aren’t raids or dungeons. Please learn the difference and stop making ludicrous suggestions that create more problems than they solve.
If the idea is to continue WoW’s downward spiral into mediocrity, then sure.
I’d like to direct you to GW2, an MMO that attempted to remove “tank” and “healer” roles by shifting all healing abilities to personal CDs instead. It was actually a core selling point of their game that they used to try to market it.
But 3 years later in their first expansion when they added in their first raids and M+ style 5mans, they added in tank and healer roles as well.
Removing tank and healers from endgame content is just not feasible.
That said, removing the trinity in WoW now requires an entire system overhaul and rebalancing every single dungeon since Vanilla. It’s a ludicrous notion with no guarantee it’d work out. It’s much more likely to alienate the playerbase.
You want another a non-trinity system, go play another MMO then. Not that I know what you can play; every major MMO that I’m aware of currently follows the trinity system, even here in Asia.
Anyone else find it ironic that the OP is a warrior - who could tank if he so chose?
Oh gosh, can never imagine anyone wanting to try that.
Coincidentally, I think you perfectly described the reasons why the MMO genre is dead and why WoW can’t stop its downward spiral. I’m actually amazed that you were able to type that post up and not stop for a second and think about what you said.
Indeed, the fact that practically no MMOs ever tried to change the formula up is the main reason why the genre is now dead. Your post is the best argument there is against keeping the trinity in WoW
p.s the reason GW2’s non-trinity system failed is because the devs never bothered to change the rest of the game accordingly, so you had a non-trinity based class system in encounters that were designed for trinity.
I’m super interested in your source for this.
