Death Knights need to be redesigned!

The Death Knight class these days has lost it’s identity. Instead of being “Knights of Darkness, wielding runes of Death and Destruction” and having powers of Ice, Death and Blood like we originally did, we are now 3 ENTIRELY separate classes;

Ice knight
Disease Knight
Blood Knight

They are all SO different from each other and completely different from the original Death Knight having ALL THREE of those powers and making its feel like a Dark Knight, not a melee Mage class like Enhancement ALREADY IS. Each specialization has had so many abilities taken from it and to put it plainly, it’s simply plain and boring now. It’s so simple and lackluster compared to both Warrior and Paladin, the 2 other 2h classes. It needs more utility and fun, it needs more Death Knight like abilities that Blizzard removed in the past. Stop splitting each Specialization into entirely different classes and taking away abilities because of it! Remember Presences? People liked those! Remember having Icy Touch, Plague Strike and Blood Strike baseline? That was great! Remember Pestilence? Or Necrotic Strike? That gave some utility!

Death Knights identity and Specializations have been stripped down so damn much that it’s become a melee Mage class and it’s become very lackluster because of it.

Blizzard, please give us the class identity and abilities back that we used to have!
Thank you!

I agree with most all of what you’ve said. DKs feel very bland compared to Wrath Classic.

Also, DK tier sets dating back for a long time have failed to meet the iconic DK aesthetic, and it disappoints me. I shouldn’t have to swap back and forth between three Wrath era mogs just to have the sinister, terrifying appearance of the DK. I want skulls and dripping ooze and bones and wicked spikes and gothic themes. These are things I think are grossly overused everywhere in fantasy EXCEPT DKs, who lost that gorgeous design a very long time ago in favor of stuff that looks like Paladins and Warriors would wear.

Frost has been unchanged forever and need a rework. Unholy is just bad design but has an identity.
Don’t you dare overhaul blood

Wow, I didn’t even think about that but you’re completely right!

As long as the Rune system does not go back to WOTLK system.

Blood has been my favorite tank by far personally. It’s been fun doubling a healers hps just by existing. The problem is when I got to dps. I pull 50 - 60k dps on either dps spec. I’ve really been trying to get into unholy but honestly its a bit of a process because I believe it’s harder than frost. As for whether its better than it used to be I couldn’t tell you as I haven’t played since wrath and just picked up the class during dragonflight so you can think of my opinion as a person new to the class and game.

I do not miss the actions the OP mentioned (icy touch blood plague, etc), though i do miss the presences. Frost feels frosty and UH definitely has a strong pet motif.

I agree the actions do not feel important compared to arms warrior or ret paladin, where each press of a button matters.

In 10.2 we’re getting one of, if not the best tier set out of all of the classes. I’d even go as far as to say it’s the best DK set we’ve had, since probably legion.

Granted we haven’t had any class sets since BFA.

The only dk set i ever loved was from the heart of fear raid in MoP. The decaying roses falling from the helm and overall look of the set made it my favorite for so long. Sad like 1 set in 4 expansions is good

Heroic vault of the incarnates is my favourite

I will agree, I do think the DK set coming up looks absolutely gorgeous. It’s a nice return to what DKs SHOULD look like. But it’s just one menacing mog set, we deserve far more. Make DKs terrifying again

The Wrath system was great! It was Cata that screwed it up.

Wrath: EVERY rune cooled down as you used it. (All 6)
Cata: Only one rune of each type can cool down at a time. (so max of 3)

Do we need Rune Types to come back? No probably not.
But having ALL our runes cooldown after use instead of just three? THAT would be fantastic!

Keep your filthy hands off of my DK.

Slowest hero class in the game, slowest in the game period, I quit playing my death knight after legion cause I was tired of looking at Demon Hunters sprinting off into the distance along with monks, While I was walking at a snails pace tryin g to catch up

Every class and spec could probably use a touch up tbh. They’ll all kinda strayed from the original fantasy to add on gameplay elements that feel bolted on.

I made an error, I do not want Runes of each time again. I hated that.

yeah if runes went back to the wrath system but just the cool down it would decrease the cd and if runic emp refreshes all runes on cd when it procs.

just not true. Try playing hunter or priest. Tell me their not slower than dk. Dk isnt even slow I do not understand this point of view… I feel as if people read this years ago, don’t play the class in dragonflight and just post this like parrots. Like if you are strictly comparing to monk and demon hunter, ya they are faster. But dk is not really slow by any means, consistent speed from DA 2 and immunity to knockback.

And there it issssss.

I also miss when we had to equip Sigils. Very unique part of the DK before it was removed. For a 2 handed class DK doesnt hit no where as hard as a warrior or ret which is nuts. Presences are a must and bone shield for every spec

I think the idea of DKs being slow is based on burst mobility. You’re right in that DKs sustained mobility is pretty decent and being able to ignore slows and knockbacks is huge, especially for sustain. But burst mobility is much more valuable in situations where you think to use mobility. Whether it’s PvP and you need to get out of danger in a snap or it is PvE and a mechanic requires you to move out of position. DKs are at a severe disadvantage in these scenarios which is where people usually value mobility.

Priest is probably the only other class that is as bad as Dk in terms of burst mobility.
