I see a lot of threads by so-called PvPers who refuse to make an effort to join premades.
They make the following set of claims:
I have a bad experience, I might unsub. But it won’t be just me, many many players will unsub.
The majority of players agrees that something needs to be done to help the PuG ‘PvPer’ experience.
I just wanted to shine light on a basic numbers fact.
People who premade are mostly rankers. The percentage of players going for high ranks is low.
If PuGging BGs was indeed so popular and prevalent among the playerbase, the premades would be drowned in PuG games. Facing a premade would be an exception, not the rule.
Yet the situation is the opposite. What do we learn from it?
The vast majority of the Classic playerbase DOES NOT CARE ABOUT BATTLEGROUNDS. They are not playing them. They realize Classic has a horrible PvP minigame, and if they want to get some enjoyable PvP experiennce, they will play other games. They realize Classic is a PVE game with a PvP flavor, and are enjoying it as is.
You keep demanding for changes, threatening you will unsub otherwise. Go ahead. You are a minute portion of the playerbase. It will make the community healthier. It will also help the faction balance, because you have preferred Horde in aggregate by a large margin.
The majority of the players is here for the game as it is. If you don’t like the game, leave. Or go to retail. There are no premades there.
Even playing AV to gain rep it is very painful. I don’t mind losing, but when I see over 10 people just sit afk leeching off other players it triggers me. It’s like they are bernie supporters playing wow benefiting off my work. I report them away but they just move around every now and again, or put themselves briefly in combat. I cannot wait to be done with this rep.
PvP, in general, sucks. If it’s not “Pre-Mades”, it’s Twinks. If it’s not Twinks, it’s Multi-boxers. If it’s not Multi-boxers, it’s Bots. If it’s not Bots, it’s AFKers. If it’s not AFKers, it’s “Toxic” (which can mean anything) Players. It’s just one giant mess.
Or, you know, it could be that after a good couple of months of
Getting stomped out by premades in AV
Getting dragged into 30+ minute games by the Horde so they can milk you for honor
Ridiculous queue times (though this is easily solved for Horde by faction rerolling); this is also killing twink brackets because of the new battlegroups
Getting stomped out by premades in WSG
And now they’re likely going to get stomped out by premades in AB for a good while, too.
Most people who might have wanted to enjoy battlegrounds at the casual soloQ level don’t find it worth the effort anymore. Also, the only reason these premades work at all is because people still PUG; the only reason it’s optimal honor/hour is because premading lets you set up voice comms with a group while you dodge out other premades and obliterate uncoordinated PUGs with any random level of gear. If pugs stop playing then premades would either vanish or accept the increasingly masochistic honor grind.
They aren’t playing them because they don’t want to get stomped. Sometimes after a raid I just want to do 1 quick game of AB before I log. I don’t want to find 14 other people just to prevent being stomped for a game.
PvP is there just for fun. It’s not competitive, it’s not arena. It’s an organized Zerg fest supported by gear. If it was actually competitive the premaders would want a premade que.
Oh well what can you do. It’s just unhealthy long term for PvP. It’s going to push all the casuals out, I guess that’s a good thing.
I’ve been playing premade AB and now WSG for the past few days with my guild. We are far from PVP rankers, I wouldn’t consider ranking my goal by any means.
When we compete against the best premades, we don’t stand a chance but we try to learn from each experience. Our comp is also far from perfect, we lack a true flag carrier.
From my own experience, most premades are similiar to our own. We aren’t top PVPers, we just have communication which puggers are completely lacking.
In my opinion, Classic WoW is a social game that thrives on team play. You’re betting off grouping with friends than playing solo in any means of content.
Please don’t advocate for changes so that you can play this game alone. You’re asking to change the tone of this game. There should always be incentive to group up and complete goals together.
But you see, if the majority of your raid did the same, and if the majority of all raids did the same, the number of people who just want to do one quick game before they log would overwhelm the number of premades. The stomps would be extremely rare.
What happens is that your raid probably doesn’t care about BGs. If it does, the average guild certainly doesn’t. You feel that there is a huge problem with the game. But the number of people who care about BGs is low.
And that is what allows premades to “be a problem” in the first place.
Premades are not the problem. PvP being unpopular is. And it’s a problem for people who like PvP only.
If WSG was so popular, the unwashed masses were pouring in non-stop to get a taste of that sweet sweet PvP rush, how come did WSG end as a premade territory?
The answer is clear. There was never a high casual participation. Very few people enjoy WSG. So the number of PuGs in WSG was comparable with the number of premaders. This has caused less people to queue, yes. But the number was low to start with, and that’s what caused this entire mess.
You can call me stupid. But that won’t change the fact that I am right.
I keep telling people who want to PUG BGs to do it either early morning or on Sundays/Mondays when rankers have capped. I run with a premade but they aren’t going 24/7 so I pug at times and these are by far the best times. If you go on Tuesday at midnight your chance of fighting a sweaty premade drastically increases.
If PUG PvP isn’t a thing in classic I will 100% be leaving. I suspect a lot of casuals will follow suit and unsubscribe as well. We don’t have time to coordinate 15 people in AB every night after work.
Don’t care one way or the other. It is what it is. PvP is what carries this game long after Naxx is out. Otherwise the game had run it’s course and we can say goodbye to WoW forever. TBC won’t be different.
Funny you say that, because that’s likely how long a queue would be if you were to join a “casual mode”.
AB queue times were fantastic yesterday, and now so are WSG during this holiday weekend.
Many players are seeking a group to join, it’s easier than you think. If it doesn’t work out, you can try again with alterations. You also don’t need a full team, half of that is better than solo queueing as long as you communicate.
