I usually merc for alliance in the evenings.
Not sure what it is. I was losing probably 90% of my random bg’s as horde. Someone told me to merc, then suddenly I was winning 75% of my games as alliance. Come a weekend morning, do my normal merc buff, then lost everything as alliance.
After talking with others, horde seem to win more morning/afternoon. Alliance win more in the evening (and this is my, rather not exhaustive, experience over 2.5 weeks).
I’ve gotta say though, Alliance players are much more friendly and talkative, have only seen a few sour people. So if y’all ever see a human (hate human animations) mistweaver named Etheleam, then /wave! Oh, and get the freaking rogues off me.
