Both VC and DM are Deadmines because nobody does “Dire Maul”, they do DME, DMW, DMN or Tributes which frees up “DM” for Deadmine. VC is also valid and is mostly used by OG wow players (especially from Beta).
Nah dead mines will always be DM.
The Vc people have always been wrong, Dire Maul DMW, DMN, DME, or tribute.
Calling it Vc didn’t even make since cause the last boss wasnt even van it was cookies in the classic version and in the retail one.
Plus if you say LFG DM and you’re 60 people now have to ask you which wing you’re running when you could have just said DMN.
Yes, grandpa, we know, now let’s get you back to the Elks Lodge for Bingo Night.
I’ll keep calling it DM, enjoy!
Yeah, just like on some servers they say looking for DPS (damage per second), on other they say looking for DD (Damage Dealer).
And WC is either Wrong Chat or Wailing Caverns. Again context is king.
WC for wrong chat is something Gen X does.
That’s ancient
DM = dead mines and always has.
Get out of here with your zoomer BS.
DM is Deadlines.
even if you were born in november 2004 and started playing like 2 days after you were born you’d still be almost 18 at this point so not exactly a kiddo, unless you are saying that those not 21 are not adults which is dare i say childish
The official printed strategy guide from 2004 has a page dedicated to MMO acronym slang… and it lists VC as being short for Deadmines.
Where? I searced through it yesterday, and did not find anything in it pertaining to Dungeons’ abbreviations.
While I personally think It’s “VC”, “DM” is also acceptable. It’s like saying chickpea or garbanzo bean. It’s the same thing. I’ve never seen anyone use the term “DM” for DireMaul. As everyone always uses a wing, because no one is doing all the wings in one run.
Calling Deadmines VC is for people who think Classic is harder than any other expansion that ramped the difficulty in content up.
I like the acronym T.Wa.T - Tragic Warcraft Troll - someone who wants to endlessly argue about DM being VC.
Like most things tragic trolls get all thingy about it doesn’t matter - if I’m in Westfall or it’s a level 16-24 asking I know what either VC or DM refers to. Context is far too difficult a concept for T.Wa.Ts.
I believe that the original poster is talking about for HC servers, which according to Blizzard were released with all content. Thereby making it so that Dire Maul is part of it’s original release, and as such it would be appropriate to ask that there be a distinguishment such as VC (for van Cleef) for Deadmines.

VC - Boss of Deadmines instance in Wesfall. Sometimes used interchangeably with “Deadmines”. (ie. LFG VC is the same as LFG Deadmines)
Right between UC for Undercity and WC for Wailing Caverns.
It was VC longer than it was DM and at this point I’m not sure why anyone uses DM anymore.
I see more VC than DM. But, I do see people call it DM as well.
Because that’s what I’ve always called it, so have my buddies. None of the other dungeons are abbreviated for their last boss.
I’ll keep calling it DM.
