Dead professions

I know this won’t be a very popular opinion but I think professions in this game are so useless it’s frustrating. None of the crafted professions for gear are relevant at all because that gear is not being bought as we have Manapearls for catch up gear. The very top top top end crafted gear is majorly expensive to create and will be moot with raid drops and again no one is going to spend that much gold for a temporary piece to pad iLvl’s.

As for Alchemy, Enchanting and Jewelcrafting (not even really considering the joke that is Inscription) all it takes is about 5-6 crafters of each type, per realm to cut the prices of the crafted items right the way down and bob’s your uncle you have a “market”. The fact there is thousands of JC’s, Alchemists and Enchanters makes their crafted items worth next to nothing as everyone is competing.

Jewelcrafting is especially busted as barely anything has a slot anymore and the only gems any one cares about are Haste and Crit oh and the one Meta gem they can equip.

Solutions for professions? Tie more of our gear to crafted. Not everything has to be gained from raids right? Make crafting a major activity and not just some gold sink that offers mediocre rewards.

Enchanting - bring back the greater variety of enchants available for pieces. Right now we can enchant two rings and our weapons? Throw in a utility enchant for the gloves and wow. Enchanters sure got their work cut out ay? Allow enchants to be on more and more gear.

Jewelcrafting - this is a no brainer. Bring back the gem slots. Let us decide our stats. We don’t want our stats dictated by RNG of the drop. Let us craft the gear we want, stick sockets on the gear and make this profession worth bothering with.

Alchemy seems to be the ONLY profession that is sort of okay. Sort of.

As far Archaeology, Fishing and Cooking … why not make Fishing a minigame that can yield more than one fish if you do it right? Click and hold to hold the line and reel in. A slider bouncing left and right, you gotta keep it in the middle or the fish gets away. The profession is mind numbing and so uninspired seeing no changes since the very start. The fishing rod in Legion was a good start! Allowing us to fish up multiple fish and other perks so why was this removed?

Cooking is cooking I guess. Glad we moved away from Nomi burning our stuff.

Archaeology started strong then its pretty clear you guys lost interest in developing the idea further. Each expansion diminished the archaeology experience since it’s introduction BAR the Legion arch quest. The amount of rewards received from it has diminished and instead we just focus on getting fragments for older stuff or we just farm the recipe for the sandstone drake and crawling claw. Legit thats it.

Wow long post I know but professions are just a joke. I understand some of you like them, those of you who do probably have a good crafting combo going on or you’re just quite content but many are not and I’m one of them who just has no gusto to bother with them anymore. I got excited for JC in 8.2 then saw multiboxers running around mining everything and then the prices of gems were destroyed utterly back to 69g a gem again.

Any other ideas to help here? I have a million ideas for professions but this is long enough a post as is.

at the start of the expansion
“I can’t wait to craft all kinds of cool scrolls and glyphs with inscription!”

a couple months later
“this is literally the most worthless profession to ever exist, first aid was more useful”

Professions do not exist to make you gold. Professions exist so that people can spend time on ways to enhance their characters.

…yes they do?

Oh yeah, guy - it’s not like all of the armor professions have basically been nerfed into obscurity, right?

I wore crafted 415 perfectly itemized legs & boots for most of this raid tier. That’s plenty useful, to me.

I’d rather have the leatherworker stat buff enhancement, but you do you.

WoW will never have the highly functional economy, with its vital professions, of a sandbox MMO.

They will always be a side-show.

If you’re not alchemy gtfo, is the moto of this expac. Our market is flooded with so many enchants it doesn’t matter and alchemy is really the only thing that matters.

They need to bring back all the cool stuff, leg armors, spell threads, more enchants, belt buckles, shoulder enchants. Stop making stupid items people don’t care about and then trying to make it seem like they’re needed for warfronts.

But yeah professions are an absolute joke this expansion, I mean ffs the engineering helm is just reused from WoD.

The old wrist enchants? So would I. But Blizzard took all the “profession perks” away when they did away with character customization.

I was on my old herbalist last weekend and saw he still had the ability on his toolbars that was the self-heal button. Individual profession things like that were cool.

It was the same in Legion. As long as potion recipes require astronomical amounts of resources, Alchemy/Herbalism will continue to be where it’s at.

Look man we are unstoppable gods we don’t need professions. I think at this point we could walk into fights in loin cloth and probably win.

Professions died when you could no longer socket items with BS and skinning stopped giving you crit.

Keeping up with feasts and flasks is a pain in the butt…
Scribe can make a scroll if one of our buff givers is away that raid night…
We encourage our members to be enchanted.

Were there other professions still?

So you agree with the OP. Cool.

If you have not made ludicrously high amounts of gold from professions in 8.2 then ggs

Professions need a MASSIVE buff

The new trinkets are really, really strong right now

Of course I haven’t because:

  1. I’m not a multiboxer
  2. I’ve not got the knowledge of expert pathing routes for gathering
  3. Literally everyone else is doing the same thing
  4. I won’t sit at the auction house for 5 hours ensuring my stuff sells.
