No, the OP thinks Leatherworking is useless because nobody is buying the “level-up” trash because the manapearl gear is better. I think leatherworking is useful because the BoP crafted gear is better than the manapearl gear.
I have made over a million gold on my druid running around and collecting herbs, posting once, and just looking for rares.
Wrong - I’m talking about the “high” end crafted gear that needs a million bwonsamdi burps and stuff.
That stuff is Mythic raid quality. Way better than the manapearl junk.
Yet but no one is going to buy it. That’s my issue.
Nobody is going to buy it because it’s BoP…
Professions have been a joke for awhile. The only thing that makes money is herbalism and alchemy. Jewelcrafting is useful in the beginning of the expansion, and then dropped off because there is rarely gear that has sockets. Other professions have varying levels of usefulness, but it really doesn’t go above “mediocre.” Every now and then, you can craft something you can actually use, but probably won’t sell & vice versa. Thats it; thats professions.
It’s crazy how far Professions have fallen since vanilla and TBC, and to a lesser extent WOTLK (when they started turning into garbage)
Jewelcraft was always kinda janky because it really didn’t have much of a niche except making gems and they started doing away with that
Inscription was even worse because without the old glyph system…why bother
In vanilla professions were serious business, with different specs and everything. Maybe leatherworking was kinda garbage but that was an itemization issue (the stats were dookie).
When I noticed the first big drp in profession quality - when it was apparent they didn’t care anymore and were just churning out crap - was in Cataclysm because you had some bad green noob leveling set (which you wore out very quickly), and then a max level set of blue stuff - and that was it
They stopped even trying to make different stuff for different levels and a wide range, and they completely gave up on making the cool stuff like the tailoring nets.

Professions do not exist to make you gold
wat.

The new trinkets are really, really strong right now
I haven’t looked at the new inscription stuff, I dropped it around the middle of 8.1
the darkmoon decks were also pretty good at the start of the xpac as well tho.
8 hour bards
Outside of Jewelcrafting, Enchanting and Alchemistry, professions have been an afterthought ever since Blizzard decided that the end-game of their MMO was raiding and PvP.
The problem is that raid and PvP gear is almost always better than crafted gear, so professions that craft gear are dead on arrival.
There are utility enchants for gloves in bfa

We’ve had vastly different experiences, then. I made a small fortune in Wrath cutting gems. When the 5 mans came out in Cata with socketed epic gear from heroics… I made a huge fortune off red gems. I made so much I would just buy ore off the AH and undercut them half price and still walk away 300k richer. Some guy even went off the deep end and sent my shaman an in-game hate mail cause I was slinging red gems for half price and ruining his profits.
The moment they removed a lot of character customization is when professions took a hit.
Yes they do. They always have. HENCE professions. Hardly any of the professions enhance characters anyway.
