It is 2025, can you just stop the arena/ratedbg and give nobody a loss or rating loss for DDoS.
Nothing worse than working all day, want to relax and smash some people in pvp for the 1 hr or so you get, and then BOOOOOM D/C. Can’t log in as your character is stuck and you finally get in after like 4minutes to find a 15 minute debuff and loss of like 150 rating.
why in the world is anyone bothering to ddos a 20 year old game is what i want to know? how much of a low life do you have to be to waste resources ddosing this game. its actually bonkers to me.
Sadly, happened twice before I saw the banner at the login. Guess I will just start playing a game I can just jump right into that is about skill and not gear/time.
They’re not, it’s Activision/Microsoft being ddos’d and WoW is just downstream of that. If I had to guess it’s the CCP ddos’ing any American service that’s vulnerable. Other services/companies have also been getting DDoS attacked the last few months, X probably being the most notable, but Outlook, and other Activision games (CoD for example) have also been hit pretty hard recently.
Even the company I work for routinely gets attacked by Chinese and Korean operatives (India as well but their “attacks” are just hilariously bad phishing attempts, the Chinese/Korean ones are scary good)
There needs to be some form of bad luck protection anyway. I know leavers was/is an issue, but cookie cutter design to punish everyone equally leaves people who have occasional issues getting burned.
There’s no reason why an account couldn’t have a DC or two forgiven a season as a redundancy measure.
The most frustrating part for me is that people rage quitting/dc’ing is net deflationary for ratings. It feels bad if you’re 3-0 and someone rage quits, and you only get like 12 points for it. Should be at least +30 to offset the -150 from the leaver
But ya, the insta -150 also feels really bad, can wipe out an entire week’s worth of games in one dc
Could check the keystroke/click log as a starter. One of the ways Warden detects bots, while this isn’t that it could perhaps be useful in determining if someone legit dc’d or force closed the game.
That’s honestly kind of genius. If people knew their 150 lost rating would go to the people they’re mad at, they would be less apt to quit out of sheer pettiness.
