I think the game should port your character to a nearby inn if there are disconnects.
Even if it didn’t port you and your character just logged out of the game world where it was that’d remove 99% of the issues.
Their real section we tend to go…so you chose to run HC on their servers that go to crap not even on days with DDOS. there is empathy, but it’s not much. My usual bit is I’ve lost HC d3 chars.
Single player game that needed to talk to the mothership. and that basic communication got me killed as I rubber banded hard as hell into a deadly crap storm.
this would not be the first time the server went on strike. it’s just this time it’s an external factor.
Many in the classic side, we went buyer beware was stamped all over this.
So are you. The fact that you yourself are playing a game mode that is a complete waste of your time doesn’t actually put you on a superior level of existence than the players you think Blizzard ought to kill just so they will “have to” start over.
Literally every mode of this game is a waste of time. It’s a video game. Unless you’re streaming for a career you’re wasting your time. But there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s entertainment.
There is also “buyer beware” all over the TOS. Blizzard could one day decide that all your items, all your achievements, all your characters you don’t deserve to have them and could erase them and there’s nothing you could do about it, it’s in the TOS that they own your accounts in the end and have power over them. Is it reasonable to still complain about that being abused? Of course it is.
It’s not a matter of players claiming to get “unfairly DC’d”. But Blizzard themselves aknowledging the server unstability…
There definitely shouldn’t be rollbacks for random DCs under any circumstances but when it’s obviously a targeted DDOS to kill a bunch of streamers (or a guild or whatever) maliciously then that’s an entirely different thing.
Well, I have literally zero sympathy for those people who lost their characters and actually think it’s quite funny.
They made a decision to play hardcore, knowing the risks, all the warnings were there about “reverting deaths” and how it’s not going to happen, because once you do it one time… now people are going to look at that any time they die to lag or another DDoS and scream, “well they did it before, why can’t they do it again.” and it’s best to just avoid that… their characters are dead and should stay dead. They can go again.
What is “obviously” in this context? How many is a “bunch of streamers”? Is one guild special and others not? What is an attack against players that is just “malicious” enough?
Talk about equivocating.
I think people like you who post on the forums for the sole reason of mocking other people who play differently from you for doing entertainment wrong are simultaneously hilarious and pathetic.
I think given how you think those people should be dealt with that your characters could be killed in a DC and then be told, sorry, nothing Blizzard can or should do.
I don’t post on the forums to mock people, I just mock people like yourself and people who make decisions and can’t stand by the consequences of their actions. I know adulthood is scary but they made the decision to do this and knew what might happen… and guess what? It happened and guess what? I find humor in it.
I’m far too tired to deal with people who doesn’t understand how insane DDoS attacks are with games like WoW, so I’m just going to refer you to someone who explained this far better than I ever could:
I don’t think they go into all aspects, such as the “ransom/hostage”-situation that DDoS attackers also cause. But they cover enough to safely and securely explain how you trying to blame Blizzard for this is beyond bonkers. Not to mention that saying “they could’ve done something” is almost just as bonkers as that.
(And yes, you’re going to have to read more than just the OP if you want to know more. But one comment I want to highlight is this one: “You’re right, but it’s much easier just to post “small indie company” and get 4,000 upvotes.”)
Personally, WoW was never designed with Hardcore mode in mind. There are so many things out of the players control that can kill you instantly and poof its all said n done. From realms going down, poor internet, getting mobbed by someone elses kills respawning all at once around you. Holes even in the maps after all these years that are still there.
In a nut shell, playing hardcore WoW is a waste of ones time investment. Because simple, its not a matter of if, its only a matter of when, you will lose your toon you been playing on. It may happen to your own fault, however there is more than enough that can wipe it out without any ability of your own to stop it from happening.
With from the start Blizzard saying there is and will be no mercy what so ever no matter who it happens too. Well that in itself should be a wake up call to just not waste ones time in hardcore unless you ahead of time can live with losing it all to everything possible even a griefer causing servers going down.
My personal choice, Hardcore is not worth it period.
Um, yeah, tiny little Blizz just got purchased by MS for $68 billion and change - that’s not even remotely small. Blizz now also is owned by one of the largest companies in the world, and a computing technology company at that. There is absolutely no excuse for Blizz to allow this to go on - they need to spend some money, hire some people that know how to identify and stop a DDOS attack. Their current responses of “let’s just wait until they stop the DDOS attack in an hour or two” would get any network tech fired at the local mom and pop business. I am embarrassed for Blizzard and their utter lack of competence.
what juggling are they doing with a server that literally anyone could make a private server and do the same thing.
Now, some may call me crazy, but…these things have been happening pretty regularly around the same times like clockwork. Should Onlyfangs have taken this into account? Possibly. But the DDoS isn’t their fault. They are victims like everyone else in HC who got hit around the same time. They just happen to get a bit more attention since they are streamers. If I were them, I’d have probably said “Yeah, until the script kiddies get bored, we should run some regular Classic content or something”, but what’s done is done.
Basically. blizzard stated this day 1 years ago on their first era hc.
and it arose by player demand.
Long ago there was era, with HC mod/add on suite. and it was good. No sarcasm, i ran era modded with this. NIce work there imo. BUt…it allowed for overturns for deaths.
Enter the great debate, is it HC if it allows death overturns. For many the answer was no. which was funny, the process needed video proof. this was to offset people will jsut ask for overturns at will comments.
They could ofc. No video, no overturn was applying however so it be kicked back.
I remember, think it was either 2016 or 17 that a group of European teens got arrested for a bunch of DDoS attacks across the EU and few parts of the US (think Blizz, Bethesda and PSN). DDoS for Hires? Jeez, nearly 10 years ago… lol. Wonder if those script kiddies are out, or still doing time lol.
Internet woes are exactly why you should never play an online game with permadeath.
Most people figured this out years ago.
Permadeth OFFLINE games? Sure.
No idea what EU laws are for this sort of thing. I guess it’s possible.
