I love the flying and the mechanics, but the practicality of it while trying to herb is really not there. I can’t even make out what I’m wooshing past to see if it’s worth even stopping. I need tons of writhebark, I’m sure I’ve flown over dozens of nodes without even knowing
Really supporting my stance. You literally have no argument against it, none of yall pro flying folk have ever had a solid argument against the point, and so just as you typically do you devolve to… this… kind of drivel. Typical.
I don’t remember seeing that spouted all over the place back in BC or wrath or cata or MoP.
I can’t speak for MoP as my memory is too fuzzy around that time and Flight was literally a BC selling point. The reason I specify a selling point is because Artifact Weapons, Azerite Armor, ETC were also selling points for expansions that were popular at the start and became hated.
Take Legion’s Artifact Weapons. Even in a recent interview with Ion Hazzikostas from Preacher, Ion even stated that Artifacts were beloved at the start of the expansion and near the end were actively and vocally hated from feedback nearing the end of Legion.
Given that it was one of Burning Crusade’s BIG features, of course no one complained then. Especially given the fact that several zones and areas in TBC are designed entirely with flying in mind, however two key things to keep in mind. Leveling was much slower in TBC AND you couldn’t train flying until 70 so the world was still very populated with alts AND flying wasn’t super cheap for the player base back then. Not everyone was an economical master back in those days.
Compared to modern flight where once its unlocked its unlocked for everyone -or- the nightmare scenario of just having flight trainable from day one I think it would be disastrous unless flight cost a fair amount (75-100k per character) and even then if it was available from day one hitting max level should be a requirement.
WoW as a world DOES feel empty even compared to its competition. ESO and FFXIV (I don’t play GW2 so I can’t comment there) feel far more alive for how grounded you are (even with the latter (ffxiv) having flight but how it’s handled vs retail)
WoW feels dead and empty with flight, it’s just fact. It’s not some delusion of wanting to relive the glory day’s but compared to it’s competition the worlds feel empty.
I am not so arrogant to completely dismiss server populations as the key behind that, heck, maybe Server Populations are the real culprit here but considering I am on a high pop server and it still feels absolutely dead as I am question feels off…
Point being, from my standpoint and personal experience over my past 17 years with this game is that Flight has hurt the game’s world immeasurably and was a Pandora’s Box of a decision… Now that flight is in the game you can’t just get rid of it, even I find that silly, but there has to be a better way to handle it that makes the world feel more populated.
I seriously need to buy a popcorn machine these forums are wild and crazy it’s amazing.
ppl mad they actually have to play the game now
its literally 3 things over and over, “WAH DRAGONRIDING BAD” “WAH GAYS EVERYWHERE” “WAH WHY SO MANY WAHMAN?”
so go ahead. whts stopping you

I disagree. Flying gives players the freedom to explore the world.
but there has to be a better way to handle it that makes the world feel more populated.
The only way this world is going to feel more populated is by combining servers and having more people subbed. Hell even then realms are sharded so you wouldn’t even see more people. This isn’t a flying problem.
Open the path finder, I’d like to use the mounts I’ve spent time farming. Short jumps sure, but after 2 days I use the flight paths…
Pokemon is that way ------>
Okay thanks for the update.
Maybe in the future they can apply Dragonriding to all regular flying mounts? I’m not sure maybe that’s too big of a task, but there is no way the game can move forward without Dragonriding being a staple. It is so much fun.
This is the first time we’ve had flying while leveling like this and it made the leveling experience so much more enjoyable for me. Usually I’m bored and a bit frustrated having to run all over the place with 100s of mobs everywhere, this made it possible to explore/see the views while leveling.
Anyway it’s a very good feature, one of the best we’ve had in a very long time (alongside class halls that was cool). There’s a lot to do with it, a lot to collect. The races are fun. If you want to use regular mounts you can walk almost everywhere but I do hope Dragonriding continues forward and can maybe be applied to all flying mounts as a staple feature.
It happened with the disconnected zones of systemlands and the forced flight paths. It is going to happen to DR within a three month time frame.
BlizZard better be on point to drop the first patch by the three month mark or it could be a descent they did not plan for.
Go check out either flyer in GW2 or the dragon riding in Century: Age of Ashes (it has terrible netcode and even worse MM so I didn’t stick around). Both have massively superior mount movement and controls. Blizz had stuff they could and did steal from, they just did a bad job of it and produced a system that is inferior to the ones they were trying to mimic.
My point is, if I wanted to play a dragon riding game, I’d pick up my saturn and play Panzer Dragoon, not some mmo.

If you enjoy, please continue.
Agreed. I’ve had two full days of frustration, motion sickness, and aggravation. Today I actually thought to myself “this is worse than Shadowlands - why?!?”. It might not be so bad had they not designed the whole expansion around flying with no regard to people who would rather use only ground mounts until Pathfinder comes out. I’m very disappointed (again) with Blizzard.
I’d like to use MY Dragon/Drake/Wyrm mounts for Dragonflying.
Not this nasty, stunted thing we all got.
