Datamined TCG items

So in the latest Beta build, certain TCG items were discovered to be in the Classic client. These include the Wooly White Rhino, and both versions of the Nether Rocket mount (Note that the Swift Spectral Tiger is NOT listed).

I pose the question; In what context (if any) would people be alright with these being added to Classic? We’ve seen other TCG items added as 6-month sub rewards in the Tabard of Flame. I’d hate to see some of the rarest mounts in the game be reduced to simple cash grabs.

I personally would rather them not be introduced at all over giving everyone with a little disposable income what were, at the time, the rarest/most sought after mounts ever.

Each WoTLK collectors edition you buy, you get a TCG loot crate, with an RNG TCG Mount! /s

I think it’s a game and everyone should enjoy it the way they want to.

If you own these items on retail back from OG Wrath, good for you. You got enjoy them for past 15 years. How cringe are you to be so against others owning a few pixels. You aren’t better in any way for having those on retail. You were simply born earlier than me. I was in middle school when Wrath came out. My parents refused to pay for game sub. Good for you you were able to pay or your parents paid for you.

Me having it in Classic Wrath does not affect your ego on retail 1 bit.

Wrath of the Cashing In.

I quite literally do not care if they add them in or not. People seething over a mount is absolutely silly.

I am not a good one to ask. I don’t notice what people have in game. Someone has a cool mount, great, all I see is a mode of transportation.

If someone buys some in game item and it provides them entertainment, more power to them. My entertainment doesn’t come from that form of loot acquisition.

Is the vendor NPC still in Booty Bay?

I’m sorry if I upset you. For what it’s worth the only TCG item I own is the Sandbox Spectral Tiger, and I got that from paying $120 for an Outlands booster box.

I’m more trying to start a discussion on where these mounts fit in the Classic scene. People spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars chasing these items and if you’re able to find one on retail they only sell for gold cap. Something like that should hold a bit more weight to it than “pay us $100 that you’d pay us anyway”.

Yes it is, it’s been in since TBC as far as I know.

That kinda comes down your definition of “Classic” - are you basing your question off the game from 2008, or 2019-2022? At this point, the game is no longer Wrath - at best, it’s “Wrath Reforged”.

World of Warcraft is no longer popular enough to create another TCG - most people that even still have the decks/cards are collectors (to some degree) and they don’t actually play. The unfortunate reality becomes if they wanted these mounts/items in the game, how would they implement them other than to sell them?

Well, that’s kinda how most people did it back then, right? We bought the cards (some, a lot more than others) through disposable income. Realistically, it was worse back then because you were never guaranteed these mounts, which meant spending more money.

But again, it was cash-grabs back in Lich King. That hasn’t changed. What HAS changed is your money’s initial destination.

At the end of the day, Blizzard will do whatever they can to make money. We’ve seen this with their reversal on Faction and Race Changes, and boosts, as well.

I’ll always argue that cool/unique rewards should be obtainable through ingame means. They could look at creating new meta achievements focused on world content or something.

That’s very true, I guess I see it different because the intent is different. The TCG’s intent was to get people playing a new card game, the ingame rewards were secondary. It’s a very specific choice to go out and buy a booster box, money that you likely wouldn’t have spent otherwise. A 6-month sub is money that you very likely WOULD have spent anyway so is a lot easier to justify even if you won’t actually play the full 6 months.

I don’t believe 6-month sub rewards are to make money, the amount of extra money they would make in that 6-month period from those subs is miniscule in comparison to other shop items. They exist so Blizzard can go to their shareholders and say “Look we have x amount more subs than we did this time last year” and they’ve figured out that giving away unique mounts is magnificent bait for people.

Without a 6-month subscription, I MAY stay subscribed for those months, paying every month. Blizzard’s not guaranteed that. However, with a 6-month subscription, they are guaranteed 6 months worth of income from your subscription.

There’s no real difference between the one and six-month subscriptions in terms of subscriber numbers. The difference, really, is longevity.

See, I don’t necessarily agree with this. Much like Pokemon, or Yu-Gi-Oh!, there are cards in each game that are deemed super rare and companies, such as Blizzard, knows full well that people will typically go and buy as many as it takes to get their desired reward.

Unfortunately this is subjective - I don’t pay for 6 months at a time because I don’t know when I’d quit (I’ve cancelled my subscription, and am waiting for it to run out) but some people know that they WILL be playing for six or more months, so it makes sense for them.

The problem is that most players have dissected the game ten times over, and any new achievements would be figured out and accomplished with YouTube videos and written guides to boot.

Still waiting on access to my Murky that I got at Blizzcon 1. :frowning:

and those, who got them back then, had the luxury of using them.

I don’t think anyone really cares all that much if they are added (those who don’t own them, like myself). IDC either way, but if they are added, I will buy them.

It’s a 100% cash grab. I know it. They know it. Everyone knows it.
Did they earn that money? God no. It’s been a :poop: of a show for the past year at Blizzard. But, lucky for them, I’m an idiot.
