Data mining faction change

so the data miners found character customization, race change, and FACTION CHANGE in addition to the clone service added to the code… Alliance is officially dead… Is there any reason to even level alts right now if its not a pally or shaman? If you are foolish enough to stay alliance you should just level a horde shaman now and vice versa with a paladin if you are going to be horde… This is officially the worst possible change that could be added at this point.

So, dataminers found a vague tag that has led people to post the sky is falling scenarios all over the interwebs.

Can we save this outrage or poor alliance posts till we get text in blue please? Thanks.

Vague?

PAID_CHARACTER_CUSTOMIZATION = 1;
PAID_RACE_CHANGE = 2;
PAID_FACTION_CHANGE = 3;
PAID_CHARACTER_CLONE = 4;

Since they are importing data on to the modern architecture and backend, do you know that these values also don’t exist in classic vanilla client but were never used?

Yes. Those are simple DB tags. They indicate data being held but they in NO way indicate that they lead to a service.

Can they? Yes. Do they? No, not by being in the dataset. They are key pair holders.

I am saying, just because a flag is present does not mean its tied to an external system. But they are used for internal systems.

Again, let’s wait for a post from Blizz announcing faction change before we get the pitchforks out. You are wasting time and trolling with this stuff. :slight_smile:

Don’t forget that during the WoW Classic Blizzcon Preview, the button for LFR wasn’t there but if you typed /lfr it did show the window for it. They just hadn’t taken it out yet. What was datamined is from an internal build that isn’t public facing yet (friends and family aside) so i wont count any of the data mining bits as legit until they actually announce the Beta and release that client to be datamined.

decompile it, they are not there for classic

Okay bucko.

This! Thank you for this Isharya.

Sadly, in this day of rushing to get leaks out to get our precious clicks for ad revenue, sites like wowhead and other datamines have just spoiled and tossed all kinds of things out there that tend to not be true. Just to get our eyeballs. I wish we had a wowhead classic (i.e., like they behaved back in the day) hehe

Basically OP. Right now, despite these tags, we have not been told by blizz that faction change is in. When we do, we can then celebrate or pump our fists. We know the forums will have an opinion either way :slight_smile:

Let’s get some more coffee!!!

You’re delusional if you think those tags weren’t intentionally made for a paid service given that a) those paid services exist and b) they literally name those paid services by name within the tag.

Does that mean that they will be used necessarily? No, but don’t try to pretend like it’s for some innocuous internal system within Blizzard. That code is for those paid services. Could it have come with a large copy+paste of lots of other code? Maybe, but they would never name something “PAID_CHARACTER_BOOST” if it wasn’t supposed to be a paid character boost, etc.

Well as someone hugely invested in alliance across 4 people in the household this prospect is extremely concerning. I am not paying $1000 to move all those toons factions and would rather quit than play on a “dead to me” server and not rerolling at this point so yeah… blizzard needs to address these things.

You should not be concerned, while it is true that the PvP and PvE racials drastically favor Horde in TBC, we did just fine on Alliance back in the real TBC and the amount of people unwilling to faction change, for a myriad of reasons, is quite high.

in todays mindset of meta meta meta that means the alliance will be left with the bots, bottom feeders, and garbage players. Sounds like a fun way to play the next 2 years…

I highly doubt that is going to ruin alliance. If anything, that’ll make me stick with alliance even more for TBC. Everyone going horde is a both a blessing and a curse, mostly a curse for Horde imo.

it will do 2 things. It will take the best players away from alliance and it will so drastically change server balance that many alliance players will have to transfer to get a viable population.

There are plenty of us who pushed top DPS on server first guilds in retail that will stay alliance. Look at how many people are sick of the world buff meta and you think they’re honestly going to pay for round 2 of that?

Just for fun you should check out the wow tools website that has the datamining info in it

WoW.tools | Database browser

This link shows you a table from classic’s first patch… and WOAH… there is a PAID CHARACTER FACTION AND RACE CHANGE… and we didn’t get that feature as a paid service in classic…

Hell… the current classic game even has a global string like: BOOST_ALLIED_RACE_HERITAGE_ARMOR_WARNING_CN That doesn’t mean we’re getting allied races with heritage armor in classic…

I’m not saying that those services will happen, I’m saying that it’s disingenuous to pretend they’re some innocuous random name for something completely different, some internal process. They exist because the thought occurred to Blizzard.

well of course they are FOR those services but that doesn’t mean those services will exist.

Not delusional, nor did I say it wasn’t a possibility. Was just saying as for right now we have NO information beside a leak. :slight_smile:
