How bout that, looks like they didn’t even lose a single point with you for the mask clipping deep into the females chest. Glad you love it! :banjo: :banjo:

You can tell who ever was tasked with designing this heritage armor was either not a fan of Darkspear Trolls or just incredibly uninspired; maybe even a little of both.

At the very least, I hope that god awful face covering is modified.

At the very least indeed! Always a bummer when people botch an easy win like this. Some artists would have clambered over others just for a shot a designing this set…… assuming it wasn’t AI that made it of course…

I would have been willing to draw something up for free if they’d asked.

Same here, might draw something up later. Apparently someone at Blizzard needs a diagram of how those masks are supposed to be worn…

Blizzard just dropped patch notes for 10.2.7 and it looks like we’re getting the exact set that was shown in the preview. However, they did say there will be 2 additional head options that can be earned during the quest line.

Community: “Helm is bad, rest is meh.”
Blizzard: “We added two other helms…. See we listen.”

This was the heritage armor out of all the races I was the most excited to see, and it’s so bland and lifeless.

Again, it’s not bad, it’s just meh, and lacks any cultural diversity from random npc trolls. Like someone said before, they picked concepts from different art, but without asking why it would be a part of their heritage. Even the Worgan’s armor, probably the worst heritage armor in the game, has cultural significance.

(Note: I don’t think the Worgan set is a bad design, just a limited execution. If Blizzard added a torn version along side the dapper one it would be one of the best. Again, an example of shallow thinking conceptually.)

The rest is awesome. If the two additional helms are the face scarf as it’s supposed to be then I will be stoked.

I’m glad you think so, but I disagree. Like I said, it’s not bad, but it’s not good either.

Ignoring the face mask, which is just inaccurate to the artwork we’ve seen before, the set only reflects specific references to Troll NPC’s, not the Darkspear specifically.
Darkspear trolls are a mix of voodoo, death loa, islander etc… which isn’t reflected well in this set.
The best part of the set is the shoulder that is clearly designed like Vol’jin’s, but isn’t indicative of Darkspear specifically. (I don’t mind it, it is my favorite part, but still sucks that the only cultural reference to Darkspear we have is mostly through Vol’jin.)
The legs look like they were modeled on another race (or maybe only on the females) but don’t fit the males at all.
The back piece floats on the males, and feels detached instead of purposefull.
The weird choice to have feathers sticking out from under the knee guards is awkward and makes no sense. The knee guards themselves I think are meant to be like Zul’Jin’s but they lack the rest of the design that makes them work with his armor. The “boots” are just 3 separate sets of textures applied to rings around the shins and calf, lacking any real creative effort. At least Zul’jin had shin guards.

But this is clearly the problem. The bits that work only do because of the specific Troll NPC’s we recognize them on… but the set itself doesn’t reflect the Darkspear cultural identity. Just cuz you slap some paint on a piece of wood, doesn’t mean you understand the tribe.

See you clearly get it. I heard the two other helms are masks from Warlords of Draenor that don’t match the set and were probably being added anyway. Not sure how accurate this is or what masks he was referring to.

Same here, it took so long to arrive and I’m not gonna lie the disappointment is immeasurable…

I was so disappointed I wrote two huge posts about it, also taking some time off work and I gotta scratch that administrative itch some how.

I think the set by itself wouldn’t be so terrible if it came out like 10+ years ago.

The Troll set when compared to what the Draenei are getting, is absolutely horrible. Side by side, theirs might look mediocre, but their set doesn’t look this bad.

If someone told me they reused assets from TBC or WoD or Cata… I’d be like, yep, makes perfect sense now… because it looks bad.

Actual care and thought was put into the Draenei set, even if people don’t care for it… no care or thought was put into the Troll set…

Blizzard, this set is a mistake.

Precisely. It’s clear to me and anyone who appreciates Darkspear culture and fashion (Darkspear fashion is a real thing, ask any of us.) that whoever designed this set, bluntly, isn’t one of us.

I’d give it a 1/10. Glad Blood Elves good their nice looking set in before all this nonsense.

Yeah it’s a shame the standard of quality dropped so steeply as we approached the end of the line. Those of us who waited the longest get shafted twice.

They must be too jaded from tweaking and fixing the other sets to put any effort into these ones. What ever happened to finish strong?

It went out the window with start strong
