Darkspear Heritage Is Shallow

Right, that’s why I find the handling of Darkspear (and really all Troll culture) problematic in Blizzard’s hands.

Even the Zandalari, probably the most nuanced Troll culture in the game, was made to be the villains in BfA.

Good catch on the cyclic nature of the quests for Trolls too.

Yeah, the pattern keeps repeating itself like a broken CD.

  • Trolls are mad! Quick! We must put stop to them!
  • Trolls gets whooped
  • trolls gets desparate, and gets into drastic measures
  • trolls lose their leader and or Loa

And You’d think that at least playable Darkspears who aren’t massive in numbers would be spared. but in MoP they were put under Martial Law, Kor’kron put guns to their heads, and Darkspear headhunters were hanging dead on the massie wooden collumns.
And then Legion comes and the lose Vol’Jin.

For Amani Zul’Jin was mad about Horde joinin in with his mortal enemies instead of him. We gotta raid Zul’Jin because he said mean words.

Farraki were mostly minding their own business in Tanaris, we raid them becuase Farraki had items that various mercenaries found to be valuable and we gotta kill these trolls to retrieve it.

We have Drakkari, who were under Scourge invasion, instead of helping them we sabotage them - why? Shouldn’t we aid them as “enem of my enemy is my friend?”. We helped the Nightborne for less. Heck at the time of Legion Nightborne were in cahoots with the Legion, our biggest enemy. Drakkari were just defending themselves on their own homeland.

Gurubashi - well they were the biggest troublmakers of them all, so they deserved some whoopass. But in the end they’re on their own territory, it’s the humans, pirates, goblins and naga that were taking more and more of their territories, not the other way around.

Then we have Frosmane tribe , where Dwarves kill their children for beginner’s quest, and rob them of their harbs from their plantation, so dwarves could have their beer ingredients. Frostmane were there first, it’s the dwarves who came later, pushed them out of their territories and murdered their youth.

And then we have Zandalari, who went rogue but in the end, the goal was to reclaim troll territories. In Cata it was Amani territories, and Gurubashi Territories.
In MoP they went after Dwarves to stop their little ethnic cleansing of Frostmane Tribe, but Alas Varian stopped them.
And we have Pandaria, but then we learn that Zandalari believed Zandalar has sunk, so where Zandalari were meant to go if they’re not welcome on Original Troll territories?
They went for Pandaria becuase of ancient deal with Mogu, that Zandalari would get some parts of Northern Pandaria. So even in distress, Zandalari tried to operate on some sort of legality (far-fetched as mogu were overthrown, and therefore deal with them about the land).

It’s really scary.

And we have Darkspears who have probably the biggest track record when it comes to “starting all over again” among all playable races.

Btw any chance you got a discord? I am also seasoned troll player and would love to chat a little.

Canonically the Drakkari value strength more than any of the other Troll tribes and would not except aid even if it meant extinction or fighting two enemies.

Justice for the Frostmane!

If Drakkari value Strenght, then they should be challenged by the Darkspears, just like Zul’Jin did to become Warlord, he challenged each chieftain to a fight, and by winning Zul’Jin got approval of said tribe.

And I believe same story could be applied here. Vol’Jin could’ve issued a challenge and if he passed the Drakkari would’ve consider cooperation.
Besides Drakkari allied themselves with Zandalari in MoP. So I guess they’re up for cooperation if it’s delivered conveniently.

At one point in the questline they kept saying “We need to return to the Loa, we abandoned them” etc. and I was like when? All throughout BFA we worked for and with the Loa, all throughout many expansions we worked for and with the Loa. Where tf did this “We need to get back in touch with them” come from?

I did it on the shaman so I didn’t even notice the weapon…

They gave trolls a Sword?

a sword? Where in the entire history of WoW have we seen them use one? It’s mostly maces and polearms, axes if they’re getting sharp… The weapon they gave us was a sword? Who did this quest? do they play trolls?

edit

One of the most frustrating things, is that the back means I can’t use say my shields. The back piece is arguably the best part of the set, but my shaman shield classes with it when it’s sheathed and, since I’m a caster, it’s always sheathed.

My guess is they were just going off some cliffnotes. “What weapon is famous for trolls?” “Oh there was that one 2h sword in a level 40 dungeon way back when! The troll players will be so happy to see that we remembered that!”

Yeah precisely. It was poor excuse to explain why blizzard never really elaborated on Darkspear Loa Lore. But it was mentioned before that Darkspears share Pantheon with Gurubashi, they got Gonk back in Cataclysm, and there were references to Shirvallah, Hi’reek, Shango, Dambala and Lukou before.

Besides Darkspears have the most shadow hunters among their ranks, their job is to commune with as many Loa as possible.

And last but not least, i’s rehash of the storyline of reclaiming the echo Isles, where Vol’Jin had to make amendmends that they stopped worshipping Bwonsamdi ever since they lost the isles.

There is one iconic weapon

:worried: I feel very bad for worgen and if it would be up to me I’d change these quests immediately and gave them a second go, becuase the whole narrative was artrocious.

But we should support each other for getting better racial content, especially when it happens so rarely like it’s in case of Worgen and Darkspear.

Based on all this feedback it kinda seems like it might be time for a second Darkspear rebellion…

That sounds awesome, I’m not super familiar discord, can I just search for the name or do I need some kind of invite?

For me it was too crowded  I preffer smaller communities.

They’ve been mishandling their story for so long now it’s become a complete joke. The Trolls are the key to giving the Horde their teeth back and Blizzard doesn’t even see it.

It really is a shame, becuase it feels that for each step forward Darkspear tribe takes, they take two steps back!
We haven’t seen them properly growing and expanding, they keep on getting exact same story threads, repeated over and over again. And it should be so easy to write them.
