Darkmoon Prize Tickets

Posting this as a last resort, I suppose.

My child likes to run around on my character on occasions. Recently, she figured out how to buy stuff. I really didn’t think much of it because gold isn’t a huge issue and usually she bought random stuff from the vendors that she finds in the obscure places that she explores.

However, today she found the heirloom vendor at the Darkmoon Faire. Over the past 3 months, i’ve been trying to save up for the 1000 ticket mount, and had accumulated about 500 tickets. She bought 2 upgrade tokens and 4 pieces of heirloom gear, draining most of the tickets I had saved up. When I discovered it, I was at least able to refund the tokens. However, I wasn’t able to refund the heirlooms. Enter GM’s. I submitted a ticket, and the TLDR from the conversation is that they are unable to refund the tickets because they are unable to remove the heirlooms from my heirloom tab. So if they were to refund my tickets, it would result in me getting free heirlooms.

To start, I understand why this system is the way it is. Obviously you can’t have people buying heirlooms, powerleveling, then refunding them two hours later. However, here is the part that frustrates me. I can buy those exact same heirloom pieces for gold at the vendor in Orgrimmar. Additionally, I already have full sets of upgraded heirlooms for every armor type. I offered to buy the exact same heirloom pieces for gold so they could have justification in refunding my tickets and the items staying in my heirloom tab. But apparently that will not suffice and the GM that responded to that offer seemed to think I was asking if I could pay him 2,000 gold for my tickets back (/shrug).

I guess the part that frustrates me is that there is just no compromise and it doesn’t seem like my issue is being considered beyond reading the policy and telling me to submit feedback to the GD forums. It wouldn’t take a lot of investigating my account to see that this was a clear mistake, and I honestly feel like the solution I had offered was more than sufficient given the restrictions they mentioned.

TLDR: Kid bought 2 heirloom tokens and 4 heirloom pieces with DMF tickets I had been saving. GM’s wont refund because they can’t remove the newly acquired heirlooms from my tab so refunding tickets would give me free heirlooms. I offered to buy the exact same heirlooms with gold from the other vendor in Org but the GM’s didn’t understand what I was getting at.

Kind of sucks - kind of funny - entirely on you for letting your kid run around spending your currency unsupervised.

This doesnt really help your problem of not being able to refund the tickets. But if you didnt know you can win Darkmoon fair tickets from the BMAH and it took me all of 2 months (since the tickets randomly show up) and maybe 30k in gold I believe to get a few thousand tickets for mog

Am I the only one that started laughing when reading this part?

Cute cute. Wait till she drains your real life bank account. I would love to submit a ticket to my bank explaining I have kids. It would go viral. Laugh now and make sure you enjoy the time you do have with her. Why doesnt she have a free starter account to mess with ? Fishy smell

Owch. Yeah, that sucks D:
As the others are suggesting, you should let her have her own character. Maybe just a trial account. Would likely be safer that way in the way of chat and stuff.

Yeah, I watch it occasionally when I remember to check the BMAH. However, from the times i’ve seen the ticket pack sold for significantly more than 30k on my server.

My friends daughter discovered Amazon recently enough.

~$500, a few enormous stuffed animals, and some weird odds and ends later and she had to go through the painstaking process of refunding all of it.

“My daughter ordered it by accident” was, inconveniently, not an actual excuse. Though she did manage to get it all back, it was a huge hassle. Not to mention the child who had to be handled (explain why it’s wrong, figure out a suitable punishment, etc), and who cried when they had to send it back.

Nope, nope, nope!

Better off posting this – without the ranting parts – in the CS forum. Might get one of the Blizz people to further look into the issue. Or might get the same response, but its an avenue to try.

This post started on the CS forums and was moved. I’ve tried reaching out on a few other avenues but policy is policy I suppose. As the first poster mentioned, life lessons. A few of the responses I had gotten from Blizzard involved giving feedback so that’s why this post now exists.

There’s a tip on the loading screen that says “sharing an a account with somebody can compromise its security,” but this is unfortunately one of those fringe cases where that sort of applies (albeit innocently).

It would probably be better if she had her own account, or at least her own character, or if you at least sit down with her and explain a few things about what currencies there are other than gold and how some of them are more difficult to farm than others. Not worrying about it until something goes really wrong is probably more to blame than the system being unforgiving, to be honest.

You can try appealing the ticket (probably have to open another one and use the reference number from the first), explaining the situation and the idea of paying the appropriate amount of golf), but it’s still a long shot. I have had luck personally with appealing things in this way when someone didn’t understand why I’d filed the original ticket, or didn’t look closely enough at the details to actually understand the situation, but they’ll probably stick to their guns.

It’s worth a shot, though, at least.

Sorry to hear that OP. The GM’s have very little power in what they can and can’t restore anymore. That’s why they have a separate automated restore system. But, I can say that if you keep an eye out in the BMAH there is sometimes darkmoon fanny pack auctioned there and it can have anywhere from 250 to a lot more prize tickets. It’s how I got my mount. Good luck!

That’s the part that got me frustrated. In one of the responses from the GM’s, the impression I got was that they absolutely could refund the tickets to me. However, the reason they weren’t was because they couldn’t remove the heirlooms from my tab. That’s what got me thinking why don’t I just buy those heirloom pieces from the gold vendor. That way the items can stay in my heirloom tab, and there is no worry about me gaining some unfair advantage through free heirlooms if I got my tickets back.

However, as most of the posters mentioned it is ultimately on me, and I agree with that.

The feedback that I was hoping to give was that there should be more ways to resolve issues through their customer service aside from just basically saying “policy is policy”. I’m sure there are tons of ways that people are trying to game the system, but I also have to believe that there are plenty of situations where it’s easy to see an honest mistake was made.

Man, that stinks, op. I feel for you… I want those mounts too. gl

I probably shouldn’t respond to this post but really it is your own fault. If you are going to let your kid play your account you should be monitoring them.

At least you can get more prize tickets.
Be glad she didn’t dispose of no-longer-obtainable pets - or type things that would get your account banned,

If you can’t supervise her while she plays, get her an account of her own.

I don’t disagree with you or the poster above.

Her typical activity includes trying to Flame Shock to death mobs that won’t die to Flame Shock spam. Repair bills are frequent. It was never an issue until it was. Lesson learned.

I know it’s my fault and I know there is a lot I could have done to prevent it and a lot I can do to prevent it going forward. I mentioned in another post the reason I posted this and the feedback regarding CS I was aiming to give.

I personally would just suck it up and just farm them again. I really don’t understand why blizzard CS people need to bend over backwards to fix these kinds of things for people.

Anyway, that’s just me - you do what you want.

Wish I could trade those prizes that reward tickets, I’ve been stuck with 2 1/2 guild bank full of them for over a year.

Only about 6 months ago I seen they were made soulbound. The reason I was saving them was too sell at a later date for a bit of profit.

I don’t need those tickets, I have like 11 toons with 2 or 3 of them with over 1,500 tickets each, just waiting for something like 8.1.5 that will have new DFM pets to buy.
