Danuser+Ion Sriracha Take on retcons and lore

  • The Sylvanas encounter is on a scale that exceeds a vast majority of what has ever been tried in past raids.

  • Ion looks forward to seeing the community discuss and dissect what is next for Sylvanas after the events in Chains of Domination.

  • The specific details of the patch, such as twists and turns, raid bosses, and even some major narrative moments came together at the end of last year and the beginning of this year.

This is a terrible look for the story. Now we really know Sylvanas story was not planed over multiple years. This confirmation is confirming to me why this story is so terrible and it is a huge red flag to me that nothing will change in a near future.
With this in mind I will brace myself for even more terrible stories.

The sad and irritating part is, blizzard is STILL failing to realize most of us are sick of Sylvanas and we’re not interested in what’s next for her. We been dealing with her mustache twirling, 4 million triple D Grandmaster Chest moves since Cata.

Kill her and just be done with it already blizz. :wolf:

The developers on Twitter going full defensive over this and claiming it’s perfectly normal and it’s a good way to write story, uhhhh… no, it isn’t.

It’s why we’re constantly arguing about what plots got cut or rewritten, it’s evident they don’t have a plan. This wouldn’t be a big deal if nobody noticed but it’s insanely evident, to the extent that we can’t even trust what we’re told in 9.1 will even be relevant for 9.2

I remember this old Blizzcon question from Jesse Cox about that Troll dungeon in Wotlk. Gundrak or something idk but he asked Metzen what that huge snake was and Metzen teased a big reveal.

I don’t think anything ever came out of it.

It’s actually interesting THIS is what they decided to get defensive over

Not the conduit energy memes from all the PVE and PVP types

Not the affix moaning

Not the Torghast Legendary Remake drama

But the minority of the community complaining about the state of the Story

Gundrak yes.
Well they admitted there that it was the rule of cool and nothing else. What many people don’t know is that Ghostcralwer had a terrible influence on the story. Systems might have been good. But he really went for rule of cool before story and now the story has to be made to be fitting for raids etc. and not the other way around. It’s such a nonsensical concept it’s baffling to me.

Another interview

We’ve done so much buildup over the years of Sylvanas’ arc, all the way from her pursuit of Arthas in Wrath of the Lich King to instigating the war between factions in Battle for Azeroth. So, we were very mindful of wanting Shadowlands to finally reveal those motivations that she’s had all this time.

Yet in 9.1…we still don’t know her or Zoovals motivations. Does the dev team not understand that you have to put this stuff in game and not keep it to themselves for years or until they release a novel years from now? :wolf:

Why has she done the things she’s done? Well, it’s been in service of this larger plan, where she feels this balance between death and life is broken and she wants to remake that. The Jailer is her conduit for doing so, and thus she formed that partnership with him.

This /10 chan…hahaha^^

He tell us this in an interview instead of…let us expierence it ingame^^

In before ; sylvanas attacked nightelfs to remember elune of her dutys.

Interesting fact: danuser say every time not a titan, eternal one xyz, he said goddes to elune

Sylvanas taking on some sort of villain role was not out of nowhere given the way she was written Cata onwards along with her tensions with Blood Elf leadership and first then the others.

What was not built up well was her work with Satan to doom everyone in a way contradictory to the only known rationale for her so far.

What was not built up was the Horde not willing to tear off her head and offer it to the Alliance after the burning.

They also seem to be of course doubling down on faction wars only being possible when there is an evil Warchief to put all the blame on, regardless of aggression by the Alliance before the over the top official start to the war.

I’m trying to cling to hope and the past three interviews are leading me to bank only on the Grimoire book for renewed faith in the narrative

Otherwise game will be reduced to something to waste time on + tearing apart the story for academic ends

The Grimoire is just another Unreliable Narrator book….so even though mine is coming tomorrow, I have zero faith blizz wont retcon it the next expac or two. :wolf:

I just need a new cosmic map

If the diagram sparks joy and is visually conceptually cohesive I’ll be fine

Go to YouTube and look up galactic mermaid, click on either the album song or the anime with the 3 drag queens

That’s how I feel

(Can’t post the link here for what will be apparent reasons)

I’m just speechless. Reveal her motivations? You mean the ones you pulled out of your butts a few years back?!

The sheer audacity of it. Like they didn’t go and retcon Edge of Night. Even though Sylvanas died again in Silverpine and we were not privy to her first person perspective for that one. So it could’ve gone there.

Acting like this is some big mystery that’s been in the works for decades and not a sudden and jarring left turn used to justify this expansion is just so shamelessly dishonest I’m almost impressed.

This is the theme of Shadowlands

Rejecting the narrative instead of accommodating to the narrative

Are suggesting writers need Protection from the Editors(and I don’t mean the Spellchecker)? They railroad Writers as heavily as the Fans! Should they be abolished too?

We have Editors for a reason!

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Literature/Misery

Now this self-appointed Editor(who forced the Writer to write the story she wanted) actually caused the Writer’s work to grow in the story not that she lived to witness it(due to the writer offing her in order to escape).

Editors bring growth and the main problem is when Writers attempt to claim protection from Editors thus stagnating their work!

With that said I would like to be a Shadow Editor to the Editors of various works of Fiction. Cartoons and Anime need Vision! New ways of blending old themes together so to speak!

I like you. But stop the copium, really.
