Incidentally Tolkien was forced to make large amounts of Background material because his Son kept pointing out the Plot Holes!
Of course Tolkien had easily discernable critics(his friend CS Lewis and his Son Christopher Tolkien) while WoW has so many Critics vying for supremacy that Blizzard can’t attain a cohesive Vision from it all!
It’s like they killed him off, and replaced him with a more submissive "Mah Qween’ Loa.
I’m usually really iratatted by sarcastic characters, but I absolutly love him! It’s a real shame they tried to Satanize him in BfA with his Deals though
My reasoning for why they don’t get super defensive over that is because it’s something people can “physically” prove is busted or wrong.
Compared to the writers who can’t apparently take any form of criticism and think everything they put out is a message from god to the point, of saying “unless you’ve also published a book or something similar you can’t talk”
Probably big bullet point ideas with nothing specific on what connects each point. We just know we are going to shadowlands and Jailor is the villain. Then the artists can start making the content while the story team figures out what the heck they are going to do.
Which is hilarious too because its probably the writers that should have all their ducks in a row before doing the expansion…
Or hear me out… maybe they DO have the script with indepth explanation and lore explaining everything except mid way through the boss tells them they are cutting the budget so those 5 arcs they planned for are getting cut. So now they have to rewrite everything and make a 5 arc plan work with just 1.
The lack of inter department communication and team work probably explains why the story seems like something that Danuser put together on a toilet paper napkin 5 minutes before the pitch meeting at Blizzard’s HQ.
You know how we know that their claim to always have expansions’ stories planned years in advance of making them is misleading at best and a lie at worst?
Look no further than Warlords of Draenor.
Warlords of Draenor was not something they had long-form plans to make, and set up years in advance to eventually reach a payoff.
Warlords of Draenor came about when they released Mists of Pandaria, the expansion before it, and asked themselves, “Okay, where do we go from here?”
They put out 5.0, and had no plan in place for what to do in 6.0. Time traveling orcs wasn’t even the first idea. Famously they spent some time throwing around the idea of a “Mongrel Horde”, made up of suped-up versions of all the minor monster races from low-to-mid level questing. It even took them some brainstorming to come up with the specific hook that they went with in the end.
When they say, “we have this all planned out years in advance”, what they mean is they have a set of post-it notes with locations written on them, and they throw darts to decide which one they will immediately start making. Everything else is cooked to order, so to speak.
Hmm maybe but at any rate, the fact Ardenweald came out of Bastion + Bastion’s symbol is a tear reifies something was cut along the way to make room for that
They probably just have some brief outlines of expansion themes unmoored from preceding outlines. I imagine Legion was always a concept waiting to be plugged in, probably without details like artifacts or class halls, or any of the Illidan prophesy stuff. Probably more like: KJ and Sargeras still need to be wrapped up, and we’ll introduce demon hunters. Tomb of Sargeras, Argus, Draenei/Velen, and we will figure out the rest later.
Correction: there’s no important reason for the Horde to hate the Alliance. Reasons for the Alliance to hate the Horde? The First War, the Second War, Wrathgate, the invasion of Gilneas, re-blighting he recovering land around Andorhal, sliming Southshore, nuking Theramore, Garrosh’s actions in general, the ‘Betrayal’ at Broken Shore, the War of Thorns, setting Stormwind on fire while breaking Talanji out, Brennadam…
Not really. He is still willing to make deals with people like Hakkar. Who Bwonsamdi knows is an evil loa. His only “morally correct” view is that Zovaal is extremely evil and needs to be stopped.
All of the current lore and cinematics are written like the only purpose is to get Taliesin and Nobbel to write up a reaction video to it …
And no offense to Taliesin or Nobbel, you work with what you are given.
But it is not interesting. It is not exciting. It is boring.
EDIT: All of this cosmic lore stuff is like sitting through Calculus 2, I don’t really understand any of it, and I don’t care, but the presenter is weirdly really into it despite the fact that students are dropping out of their class left and right.
