D4 event and griefers

So what should we do about the people casting rain of fire, freezing rain, dropping death and decay, consecrate, and other AOE spells? Those are lagging people as well (probably moreso than the target dummy.) Serious question from someone who has never experienced lag from a target dummy, but gets really bad lag once all the spells go off.

Maybe a better idea would be to have an option to disable other people’s spell effects. I mean this would actually help people with lower end machines (and those with higher or mid grade machines) from taking the graphics hit not only in open world content like this, but also in raids and even dungeons.

On the Character Select screen.
Press “Menu”
Then “System”
Select “Graphics” on the left side column.
On the Right side
Scroll down to “Spell Density” and turn it down to “Essential”.

in-game one can access this menu by pressing ESC on the keyboard.
Then “Options”.
Select “Graphics” under the “System” heading on the left side column.
On the Right side
Scroll down to “Spell Density” and turn it down to “Essential”.

I’ve not tested this feature yet, but if it works as intended it should reduce those effects to your own spells and those deemed essential to gameplay.

edit: This feature DOES NOT claim to turn off the target dummies or other objects other players have deployed.

Honest question: what does a higher polling rate get you?

Part of my day job is simulator man/machine interface. The fastest human reaction time on record is on the order of 0.1 seconds. At 125 Hz, the standard keyboard is over-sampling the fastest man alive by a factor of twelve.

So … what performance gains do you realize with a faster rate?

Turn on enemy nameplates.

Yeah, once again, the toys/target dummies aren’t causing the problem. If they were, this would be an issue when everyone opens their presents at Greatfather Winter’s in December.

Reduced input latency.
So my games register fewer “missed” key strokes.

I know what you are getting at … and yes once you get passed 1000Hz the benefit is debatable.

So no room in the middle?
It’s ban them or have 50 piled on top of the portal?
Sure there isn’t something else that could be done?

How about a “No Mount/toy” zone close to what has been implemented to solve a similar problem?

Then you could play with your toys near the event portal and not become a nuisance for others.

Out of all the years I’ve attended that event, I can’t remember anyone using toys to troll the gifts under the tree. Though I have seen mount campers.

Sure, here are several solutions you can implement right now!

1.) Turn on enemy nameplates, click red treasure gob nameplate, or press tab
2.) Press Holy Nova to aoe gob,
3.) Wait two seconds for goblin to move away from initial spawn, then target as normal
4.) Heal anyone, you’re a priest. Literally all you have to do is press Holy Nova ONE time and you’re on its loot table.

There you go, problem solved. Excellent, now that we got that sorted… do you have any other problems, troubles, conundrums, or any other sort of issues, major or minor, that I as a good friend could help you solve?

As a good friend, I feel obligated to be honest with you, you are being overly dramatic about the difficulties you are facing and are blowing this completely out of proportion. Every class has a way to easily deal with this.

DK - Death and Decay
DH - Blade Dance, Immo Aura
Druid - Heal anyone, Starfall, dozens of options here (swipe, thrash)
Evoker - Emerald Blossom, Dream/Fire Breath, many options
Hunter - Dozens of options as well, Barrage for instance
Mage - multiple AOE options here
Monk - spinning crane kick, heal anyone
Paladin - use the target dummies to drop consecrates, Divine Storm, heal anyone
Priest - Holy Nova
Rogue - several options, Shuriken Storm/Fan of Blades for an example
Shaman - multiple options, but chain lightning on the target dummies till you target the gob, heal literally anyone
Warlock - dozens of options
Warrior - spam Whirlwind

Its not hard, even with toys up, there is no reason to pretend it is.

And then the gob spawns and it moves off the toys. This isn’t an issue.

And as I have said before, out of all the years I have played this game - a target training dummy, toy train set, super simian sphere, bubble wand, or sunflower has never caused my FPS to go from 140 to 25.

I just killed a gob right now to test this claim, I set my foreground fps limit to the minimum allowed of 8fps, and still got a kill just fine.

8fps bottom right corner, 80-100 players at the event, turnip on the ground.

Another solution use a target macro I’m sure there is one .

It appears you haven’t read my posts in this thread. You really should. It would make my position alot clearer.

I, honestly , do thank you for wanting to befriend me. This game as with any MMO thrives on players making friendships.

OK, in a competitive gaming context I can see how that has value. Simulated flight controls, by comparison, rarely go above 120 Hz. (Hence my confusion.)

I was discussing this issue with my buddy in Discord just now, and he figured out what the real issue is and why someone would want toys banned from the gob spawn area:

The “problem” is that people are likely using bot scripts to rotate log-ins, (since the spawn rotations are known it can be scripted) and being able to accurately target the gob with multiple target dummies in the way interferes with reliably getting kills.

I am honestly ashamed I didn’t realize this myself. It’s so obvious now. If a real player can’t pick a target out of a clump of targets, then they wouldn’t be able to play this game at all. Its a skill we all learn quickly, but a bot? Yeah, not so much. It’s not players that are struggling because of the toys and target dummies, its bots.

You know what? That makes a lot of sense. The only way any human is getting fooled by any amount of toys preventing them from targetting the goblin is if they’re not actually human to begin with. Rather, they’re using bot software and multiboxing to farm the events and the scripts these programs use are the ones encountering complications with the toys.

It’s the same when you disrupt a bot farmer doing a farming route. Place a target dummy at the location the bots are targetting and watch their automation go to pieces.

Use an AoE spell to tag it then tab through the 5 target dummies to find the goblin. It’s really not an issue.

I do say good people, I had just attempted to slay one of these loot goblins and some dastardly rogue place a turnip on the portal! I was aghast! How dare he try and stop me from my quest for a mighty steed! Thankfully I have discovered the solution! I hit tab and behold I got sight of that foul goblin and my companions slayed it together! Spread the word, we know how to beat them!

I really don’t know.

I’ve been giving away the item drops I get that I don’t want for free and several players I’ve tried to trade with can’t get them because the game says they are ineligible. Even though a few were literally standing right next to me during the event.

I have seen players say something after the goblin is down about targeting/lag issues and missing the tag.

Some I’ve seen running in place, so something happened to them. Kinda looked like when someone DC’s in a dungeon, they run in place then disappear.

Network issues maybe? On my fiber service I usually see high teens low 20’s for latency. I’ve not had mine go over 100ms during the event that I can recall. Playing from an apartment building on a shared wi-fi would be a different experience than mine though.

My train of thought is that the fewer variables the fewer the problems for everyone.
