Is it possible the sim aren’t up to date and not simming it right?
It doesn’t even need to be exceptional, its 642! That’s higher than any ring anyone has, it SHOULD be more damage/healing but it’s not. For me at 642 it is 40k dps lower than a 619 crafted ring.
At the very least, it should be equal to a 639 ilvl ring, not worse than one 23 ilvls lower
would not be surprised if the gems that will be used by most classes get released in the last 2-3 weeks of the 6 week timeframe to be maxed out.
If the sims are working with it correctly, that is horrendous… Yuck.
It is possible.
The ring isn’t for you.
It’s for John Q Public who doesn’t do anything past Delves. Of course it is (and will be) a DPS loss. It’s really a DPS loss right now due to low ilevel and lack of DPS gems.
If you do M+, Heroic/Mythic Raids, and endgame crafting, you are going to have better rings. This ring, even when grinded out, will be replaced in S2 if you do anything past Delves.
The ring will be great for those who will never do anything past Delves. That’s who it is for. So no shock it is and will be a DPS loss if you have something already better.
I do delves mainly and dabble in raid a little, but hell, it even sounds like the ring isn’t even great for me.
Then why make it’s ilvl so ludicrously high and continually tout in interviews it’s supposed to be bis?
It’s not even better than 610 rings right now for many DPS specs, that’s well within delve ilvl range.
Why is it good design for something 32 ilvls higher to not be worth equipping when you get it?
Just give us the gems to actually make it good now. Why add a second timegate to an item that’s already timegated?
That was not what they stated in their interviews about the ring. They said they wanted it to be good this season and going in to next tier.
It’s 642! It shouldn’t be this bad

We were told it would be “good” that would go into next season. They said nothing about BiS. That’s how you interpreted the message.
Why is it good design for something 32 ilvls higher to not be worth equipping when you get it?
Never said it was good design. It’s just design. If you got something better, than you have it. No reason to grind the ring.

Gives something John Q Public to grind to give them the feel of progression without having to step into M+/Raids. Delves gear is easily reachable to cap if you do only a few a week.

Good for John Q Public who doesn’t care about appropriate stats to maximize efficiency. It’s not good if you are trying to be efficient in your non-Delve endgame content.
Just give us the gems to actually make it good now. Why add a second timegate to an item that’s already timegated?
It’s either you have people grind currency/rep on their own time to get it, but it has to be a large amount… OR: just timegate and force minimal actual grinding.
I prefer the first, just allow me to grind how fast I want, but Blizzard has other plans… for now. You know they will eventually nerf this timegate too.
There’s already a 6 week timegate on the ilvl of the ring. Why add a second timegate on making it actually worth the ilvl it says it is?

“They wanted it to be good this season and going to next tier (season) in what” context? Who was the target audience? I am sure it wasn’t anyone who does real endgame content.
The ring isn’t for you. The update is for casuals who do Delves. Just like the Onyx Ring from the Forbidden Reach, it will be replaced in S2 and forgotten… just like the Forbidden Reach itself.
I assume they are just trilling you, or they work at blizzard.
If the ring isn’t for someone that does content in this game that what is it for? It’s not even for people that do delves, its lower dps/hps than a delve ilvl ring.

Just going to quote myself:

Also, remember that Microsoft owns Blizzard, so there’s an expectation of keeping a certain % of subs to keep generating a level of revenue for end of year and a bit into Q1.
It will be harder to keep that level of revenue and sub% if I am able to spend a weekend grinding out my ring ilevel and getting gems.
Ok but the ilvl timegate already achieved this. Why add a second one?
Again. The 6 week ilvl timegate I have no issue with, it’s the presumably 3 weeks waiting for the right gems that makes no sense.
Just going to quote myself.
So noob trap?
Not sure Blizzard should be intentionally designing those into the game.
Here’s your reason. Really easy concept from someone who understands business cycles.
You know they will eventually nerf both gates. They techincally already nered the gem gate. Once you get a gem on one character, you can purchase that same gem on any other character from an NPC on the island. So one of the timegates only applies fully to ONE character.
Correction applies to 1 account
The timegate still exist just made it so you don’t have to grind on alts to get the same reward
