By now I’m sure you are aware that guilds are using a custom addon to exploit layering to make millions of gold. There is now a private addon to make this process even easier.
I’ve been told the addon works like this:
Blizzard needs to fix this ASAP!! I suggest the following:
They can determine who was hopping layers as this information is tracked and stored. For example, track all characters who layered >10 times in 30 minutes.
During the timestamps of layer abusing, delete all items gained by that player.
During the timestamps of layer abusing, revert all XP gained by that player.
If layer abusing occurs X number of times, issue a ban for X amount of time. If a player exploited layers 20 times in 1 day, ban for a week. If a player exploited 100 layers in a day, ban for a month. If a player exploited 1000 layers in a week, ban forever.
That is the whole point behind the layering exploit: You can manipulate layering exploits for near-instant respawns. You then farm these respawns. For example, respawning rare herbs (Black Lotus), rare mobs that drop BOEs, huge AOE packs, rep farming packs, etc.
Black Lotus sell for between 25g - 100g normally. You can spawn around 1000 in a 9-10 hour timeframe. That is 25,000 - 100,000 gold a day. For a single node. For a single person. You trickle the AH with your items and reap endless gold forever.
Now imagine you have a guild of 5 people abusing these spawns. You farm 5 nodes/rares/aoe packs of mobs, instantly respawn them, and do this for 10 hours a day, 7 days in a row. That is millions of gold worth.
Blizzard chose layering as their solution to population stability. Part of that means the extreme exacerbation of wealth/power inequality in the game. They knew this going into it, they are not going to change it now.
You have to learn to live with the fact that what was the ‘upper class’ in vanilla is the New World (of Warcraft) Order in classic.
You’ve completely made that up and it is completely incorrect.
This layering exploit could easily be fixed. For example, there is no reason a person needs to be able to hop between 100 layers in 15 minutes to farm the exact same node over and over and is only explainable by exploiting the layering system. Same thing for 50 layers. Same for 25 layers. A control should have been put in place.
Blizzard said there was a control, but it isn’t working, hence the exploit.
Which solidifies those who’ve already used it as the absolute monarchs of their servers, having tapped into now unimaginable wealth while it was available. No thanks.
Is this actually true that people are amassing huge amounts of end game materials via “exploits”? I am genuinely curious if that’s truly the case or perhaps it’s an over exaggeration?
Why do people keep responding with “Blizzard would need to make that an offense” or something of the sort??
It’s an exploit.
Read what an “exploit” is under Blizzards terms of service agreement.
If you are “exploiting” layering, you are committing a bannable offense…
It’s simple really…
The real question is, will blizzard put an end to this before the markets get destroyed, effectively killing the game, or, the will most of us start doing this, all exploiting the game, and getting mats for ourselves, while simultaneously breaking the markets…?
