CurseForge should be banned

They are hyper monetizing addons which is supposed to be against TOS. They are buying out the developers of addons and trying to force people into getting stupid apps that insert malware, subject players to ads, and have paywalls for “premium” content. How is your game good if it basically requires addons to play well, and then those addons are now being run by scumbags?

Please fix, thanks.

They arent against the TOS yet, but honestly with all the bad practices Overwolf had done since they took over, if i were Blizzard i would send them a cease and desist simply because i wouldnt want my product to be associated with them in any way.

It’s not against the ToS, but I use few enough that I can just manually update them without a client.

No, they’re monetizing ads on the website/program you use to update the ads. That’s like saying Blizzard is breaking the ToS by having ads on the launcher for their products.

The Malware thing was proven fake.

There’s many guides on how to disable the ads if they bother you that much.

There is no “premium” content.

I open Overwolf maybe 3 minutes every week to update addons and then close it. It’s not as bad as people are acting. Lol.

My only real issue is they installed warcraftlogs and something else alongside Overwolf without my permission, I uninstalled them but still sketchy.

All my addons are from curse forge and I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.
I’m not saying it isn’t true, but I haven’t experienced any of this myself :woman_shrugging:

Even if it’s not malware, this type of stuff is the reason you won’t see me with Curse app. Overwolf is sketchy in my eyes and I won’t be installing that client. I had it years ago and I’m doubtful it’s actually better than before, just hidden better.

Hope the thing with WoWup and Wago goes well otherwise I will just manually install.

Stuff like this is why if I were ever to install Overwolf, it’d be inside of a virtual machine with a hole poked through for just the WoW install. CursedWolf can install all the crap it wants then and it won’t matter.

But my preferred outcome is for this upcoming DF UI revamp to be extensive enough that I only need to maintain 3-4 addons manually.

I use WowUp.

Overwolf is restricting the CurseForge API, so WoWUp won’t be able to pull addons from Curse anymore.

Time for manual downloads, because Overwolf can crash and burn.

A shame. Oh well.

I’ve never paid for an addon.

I go into Curseforge, I hit “update all,” I exit the app completely.

There’s no malware and no ads. So unless you’re running Overwolf in the background, you’re not seeing ads and there’s no way you’re getting malware.

Never used it. I use wowup. Never had any issues.

WowUp doesn’t seem to have all of the updates for me anymore. I thought Overwolf locked them out not to long ago.

Ah, yes. I found the article. Maybe it hasn’t taken effect yet or they worked something out since? I’m not sure.

I use WoWUP, will go back to manual install instead of using crapforge.

It’s a check box in the settings. Not malware.

I mean I literally use wowup, no adds, no pay walls, just find and download what you need and then close it. Plain and simple.

Nothing they are doing is against the ToS. You are not allowed to sell premium features, there is no rule against making money off ad revenue. I have been using Overwolf since they bought Curseforge and have had no issues with it. And I routinely run scans for viruses and malware, not one instance so far.
