Current State of Mythic+

Normally, I hate posting in the forums but at this point, I am not certain what else to do. Mythic+, in my opinion, is an absolute wreck that focuses on creating a further challenge for less rewards for anyone who is not a mythic raider. Previously in Dragonflight Season 3 raider io captured the following metrics for the player base’s rating:

Dragonflight Season 3 End Metrics:
Top 0.1% -3688.18
Top 1% - 3287.81
Top 10% - 2788.99
Top 25% - 2342.54
Top 40% - 1682.42

Whereas The War Within’s metrics are currently:

The War Within Season 1 End of Week 3 / Going into Week 4:
Top 0.1% - 2719.81
Top 1% - 2607.52
Top 10% - 2244.73
Top 25% - 1873.58
Top 40% - 1495.57

In addition to the metrics, I would like to acknowledge that the achievements for Keystone Hero ( 2500+ Rating), Keystone Master (2000+ Rating), and Keystone Conqueror (1500+ Rating) have not changed.

I state the above because I do wonder, why would Blizzard make these changes to exclude the player base further? Previously non-mythic raiders would be able to slowly gear to mythic item level throughout the season via the weekly vault, have the opportunity to unlock portals, and achieve the three achievements. Via the metrics above, I would state:

  • The top 1% were unaffected by the changes to Mythic+ and might enjoy the challenge.
  • The top 40% could continue to come and go with Mythic+ and be happy with Keystone Conqueror.
  • The top 10% and 25% are no longer good enough to receive mythic gear, achieve portals to the dungeons, and unlock all three achievements.

While it is early into season 1, I have witnessed Mythic+ develop an even worse toxic playing approach to anyone who does not have a dedicated group and must pug by leaving during the key, expecting a rating higher than the key will provide, and purposefully dying to kill the key for others. With that said, I would like to also provide possible solutions to make this more manageable for the top 10% and 25% with the continued squish that has been made:

  1. Change the triple death penalty from starting on a +7 to a +11 or higher.
  2. Remove +10 and higher from having fortified and tyrannical. This got old very fast, and unfortunately would make every week in Mythic+ feel the same. One week fortified and one week tyrannical is a better approach.
  3. For minions that do nothing but cast after being interrupted should all have a 3-5 second delay before they can cast again.
  4. Add a penalty system for the first player that leaves a mythic+ key while the timer is still active.
  5. Input a system where if the majority of players agree that the key is dead they can vote to leave without a penalty.

Overall, I would just like Blizzard to take an approach to make Mythic+ more appealing for the top 10% and 25% again. There are other ways they could improve the game mode for everyone but removing the ability to slowly gear to mythic item level for non-mythic raiders and upping the difficulty to achieve the portals and achievements without any other reward, I think they did a disservice to the player base.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

UPDATE:
As a little bit of insight to the metrics above, I thought I would also add where the Dragonflight Season 3 week 4 metrics were as well:
Top 0.1% -3243.7
Top 1% - 3003.7
Top 10% - 2573.5
Top 25% - 2032.1
Top 40% - 1285.1

To me, the inclusion of Dragoflight Season 3 week 4’s metrics does not change the point that is being made but only reinforces it. My only hope is that Blizzard will review this post and find a way to develop Mythic+ in a better way that supports the community.

These are great suggestions honestly. You can pug for 3 hours and time 1 key w the bs that goes on in this game. Some people have lives.

I’m personally having a blast with m+. Nothing that has scuff my key or wiped my group feels unjustified.

I don’t feel excluded I feel challenged and that’s a good thing imo.

Im almost in the top 1% as a hunter neat… its been a march of horrors…

Everyone does, actually.

It isn’t “elitist” to think that the WoW equivalent of Candyland shouldn’t give out the best gear in the game - just basic game design philosophy.

Well I’m personally having a terrible time with M+. Lots of the dungeons are badly designed and the affixes made learning unbearable. I feel like I lose keys very often because people don’t know what they’re doing wrong because they’re getting 1 shoted by everything and one wipe is a broken key, therefore they don’t learn, I don’t get any items and everyone wasted their time, when in reality this should only happen in higher keys (old +20’s). No one wants to stay around and learn because it’s already over and even when you get people that know what to do, the huge unbalance of this season is the deciding factor of if you time a key or not.

I don’t feel excluded either but I def don’t feel challenged, it’s just tiresome. I just wanna get 2500 for the achiev, get the portals and prob won’t pug for the rest of the season. They really really managed to kill the repetitive content that they built for years, all in the name of Esports and youtube videos. Worst season I’ve ever played and by far the most boring and toxic one.

In which reality it’s healthy to have one wipe and instantly leave the key because it’s already dead? God damn. Dungeons so overtuned that they are being heavily nerfed and their mechanics gutted because no one even wants to do that, not even old Halls of Valor was nerfed until VERY late in the xpac. This season is just heavily time gated by Ilvl, unforgiving and boring for the sole purpose of being boring (or “challenging” apparently).

Replace one problem with another by introducing delves. My prediction is M+ will pick up mid season after Delves have become useless.

I completely agree. Gilded Crests and Mythic Track loot are being gatekept for a large majority of the community. The harder the content, the more elitist the top 5-10% are required to become in order to be able to beat the challenges.

Doing appropriately challenging content for the top-end rewards in the game is “gatekeeping” now?

Just a few things, don’t compare the end of season 3 from one expansion to the start of season 1 of a different one for title cutoffs because the numbers are obviously going to be different when the best players are currently doing 14s now but they were doing over 30s by the end of season 3 from gear upgrades and further optimizations.

The challenge from higher keys is entirely just numbers going up instead of needing a composition for specific affixes which means no more Warriors crying about afflicted. In that regard I find it a lot smoother than having weeks when an affix makes a dungeon significantly harder instead of just the dungeon being harder. The scaling past the gear reward scale is probably harder on its own, but it removes the concept of having to do a specific push week when all of the weeks are the same when you push high enough and then it is just competition between other groups.

Caster mobs do have a delay after being interrupted. They just don’t have a delay when they are hit with a stop (stun/knockup/etc).

Myth track gear from M+ was way too easy in previous seasons. In season 3 of dragon flight you could have been 4/4 Myth geared from M+ without learning a single mechanic in M+. Now the rewards are more in line with the challenge which will get easier and easier as the season goes on simply from Gear power creep.

And for most people, fortified and tyrannical weeks are still a thing, the only time it stops is when you get to the portal and Vault keys which would still be the minority of players doing that level of content.

Stop being salty this games your entire existence and your little mythic gear is your only validation. Overwhelming majority says the new system sucks.

It’s not appropriately challenging. It’s clearly over-tuned. They wanted to keep us subscribed by presenting a challenge that would take us months to overcome. But the learning curve is far too steep for most pugs, and instead of keep us subscribed it’s already driving away a ton of my friends towards other games until there are some sweeping changes to the Gilded Crests and the Mythic Track loot in particular let alone the tuning.

What a thing to say to attempt to add weight to your argument. Blantantly false and absolutely ridiculous.

It is very much true. I was in a +22 AD with people who were being eaten by Rezan, they had gear from running easy 16-18s.

Peoples’ thinking still hasn’t adjusted to the upgrade system.

Do you have a piece of Myth-track gear?
Do you have unlimited access to Gilded crests?

Then you have the best loot in the game.

“why can’t anyone think about the 0.001%? just why? it’s always the pesky and casual 99.999% I swear”

Yeah it’s awful. They need to get their “thoughts” together over there for season 2.

I’m more inclined to believe engagement will continue its downward trend at that point because of, among other things, the disparity in difficulty between delves and pugging m+.

This would be the case for anybody who effectively bought their gear through carries.
Don’t need to know something you’re paying others to do after all.

I agree that Mythic Plus is in the worst state it has been since Legion when Teeming and Skittish were still affixes.

The ‘squish’ was a mistake because it created more of a blurred line between people who were capable of content and those that weren’t.

The jump from 11 to 12 is an absurd tuning step to have. Mythic Plus is supposed to infinitely scaling content, why have a step change?

Class and spec disparity is also in a terrible position being (at least in my opinion) worse than the 'god comp" days of when Augmentation was first introduced. Too many specs are able to do full single-target damage with the same spec that allows for AoE/Cleave/Funnel damage while all of those that do not have those options in their talent trees (or just have horrendous AoE damage like BM Hunters) are just left in the dirt unable to get in to any key groups.

Finally I maintain that “blacklist” zones need to be added for affix spawns in certain boss encounters. The Oblivion affix on the second boss in AraKara for example - that affix cannot be allowed to spawn while the boss is channelling the swarm and the group has to be within a safe zone because it means the orbs just cannot be intercepted.

What dungeons and which parts are designed badly?

It’s the start of the new season. No one has the strategies hammered out and everyone is learning. Everytime I do a no leave key I learn a ton! Even on keys I’ve done many times before – necrotic wake.

And being one shot dont prevent you from learning. Open your death log and see what killed you.

I slogged through a NW +10 today that took 100 mins. And what huge unbalance are you talking about?

Just gotta stick it out and learn the keys.
