I arrived to help a hunter with this quest after he feigned death to avoid dying to the mob spawns. We killed the mobs, looted the key, and the chest despawns. After several minutes I decided to try abandoning the quest so I could pick it up from my map again and re initiate the event, only to discover that my map had been removed from my inventory.
That comment is most likely what you are encountering.
The map likely is “consumed” when you start the fight. It is repeatable. You may just need to farm the fragments again.
Well yeah, that’s precisely the issue. The map is an item that starts a quest, and thus far I’ve never encountered a situation where abandoning a quest from an item that starts it deletes the item, and furthermore I was never notified that the item would be destroyed. I farmed that map for hours, it’s not my fault the quest bugged out.
If you feel it is bugged you need to file a Bug Report. When filing the report you need to say whether it was in Retail or Classic.
I thought it’d be more prudent to open a ticket since the problem directly pertains to me and my immediate course of action, whereas a bug report I assume would be filed away and patched in due time, certainly without recompense. It doesn’t help that the ingame ticket system seems to have been abolished.
Back in Classic, it was possible for quest items to disappear if the quest was abandoned. It’s probably not likely that it’ll be restored, though if it’s bugged a bug report will help for the future as you said.
The ticket system is still alive and healthy ![]()
What they’ve done is give direct paths to help direct players better. So instead of waiting for a GM to tell you to put in a bug report, the system will help point you to the bug report system directly. Saves a bunch of time!
Also, the ticket system is designed to let you put in ticket for things that GMs can actually help with. Previously, it would let people put in tickets like “Help!” with absolutely no context or details. Thankfully, tickets are no longer days/weeks long to get answers thanks to being more direct about what they can help with.
And in case it wasn’t clear from what’s already been said, this is very unlikely to be one of those things that a GM can help with. Almost always, if it’s possible to re-farm an item, GMs will not be able to restore it - even if there was a bug. You can certainly open a ticket, just be prepared for the answer to be no.
