Trying to find out why I can’t log in to WOW so I go to the CS twitter feed looking for issues. A few seconds after hitting the page, a Big block appears over the middle of the page. Apparently the ONLY way to get information from this page is to log in…seriously??? I just want to find out if there are known issues-I should NOT have to log in to find out. The Dev page doesn’t require this, but the page WE ARE ALL DIRECTED TO TO SEE WHAT’S GOING ON does!@!!@! WTH…
“Unexpected server error”? It’s like the second tweet under the pinned one, they’re aware and working on it. Edit: Missed the tag that it’s for OW2, whups.
With that said… I can corroborate this. Both mobile and desktop, Twitter requires a log in after a small amount of scrolling that won’t be dismissed.
Thank you!. I know nothing about twitter or how it works, but I don’t have this problem with the warcraftdev site, just the Blizzard CS site. These are the only 2 Twitter places I use (and apparently only 1 now). This does seem like an odd communication choice, but maybe I’m just out-of-step-I just don’t like being forced to join something I’m not interested in.
They’ve said here multiple times that the reason they use Twitter is to reach a wider audience, and that you don’t have to be logged in to just view the tweets. Now that isn’t the case, and I’m not sure why.
Hopefully one of the SFAs or other knowledgeable folks can chime in. I’ve also tweeted at them myself to let them know.
It used to be that you don’t need to login to view the overall site, but some time ago Twitter made it so you have to login.
You can still bypass the login banner through adblockers configuration and if someone knows the direct tweet and links that, you don’t need to be logged in to see that link (Unless it’s NSFW).
You all rock. I was so expecting to be flamed for not wanting to join twitter, instead you are all so supportive. Thank you!
That might be why I never noticed it when I visit the site and not logged in. I didn’t know they were doing that.
We do tend to attract folks who just want to help.
Overall, we try to post breaking news and other updates in several places, but Twitter often has a pretty good reach because it is easy to view. If our site is experiencing an issue we may not be able to put up messaging there, and Twitter usually can be viewed without needing to log in. Sorry if they blocked you so you couldn’t see the current and pinned tweets.
To clarify, I wasn’t “blocked” I was told I had to log in. If Blizzard’s main source of news now requires a login to see, maybe they need to put some pressure on Twitter regarding this requirement or find a better place to reach out about issues.
If you could direct me to other sources for this information, I would appreciate it as Twitter was the only one I knew about.
I don’t believe any user on the platform can bypass it, it appears to be Twitter directly. I can google sources that might help bypass it, but would not be sure enough any of those would work to post them. It isn’t the main source, but it is the one that can reach the most users even when Blizzard’s own systems are down and no one can log in.
