[CS Lounge] We're gonna teach 'em how to say goodbye

My kids start school on Wednesday Sept. 7th. Me, I start back at school the same day. I’m both excited and anxious. It’s been a lot of years since I was last in school, but I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life, and a new career!

I went back in 2021. There was pandemic money given to the college and classes were free. Working on my emergency medicine degree

It was really weird going back to college - even night classes at the Community College I attended was packed with “kids.”

Tell me about it. I turned 41. Minus myself, the median age is 22 in class. They’re all excited, energetic, first real jobs, no debt, and childless.

It’s difficult. I’m exhausted. Last time I was in school, we didn’t have online classes. At best we had a school webpage.

I like these forums and I like online sources, but overall I study better with physical copies of my books

Shop around for your textbooks. Some courses you can get away with an older version (my Political Science instructor basically told us to get the last edition if we could). I’ve gotten away with $20 used texts in some cases.

Wish I could. Some can only come from one source. My AHA had to be the most recent. Science books always updating

Fortunately the ones I’ve found are way under $100. Now the hardcopy series for the class…as in all 7 books would cost me $1,000.

Yeah, I’m mid-40s and there are very few males who enter this profession (unfortunately) so I’m likely to be the only mid-aged dude. But that’s okay.

My profession was traditionally almost all men. But there’s many in fire and ems now. It’s a good balance of all genders.

We have all kinds of equipment to help save backs and avoid injuries.

It was my Saturday to work. 7-4, a nice easy day.

Not so. This weekend is the annual Disaster Recovery test, and I had to verify our section of work. Almost all of our stuff was up and working by 7:00 PM, and I just finished with my part of it. It was supposed to be movie night, maybe helped along with a cold beverage. But not now. It’s definitely bed time.

They’ve been in school here for the past 2 weeks already.

Not sure why they’re going back later. Last year it was two weeks ago. Whoever makes these calendars…:face_with_head_bandage:
