I know the feeling. The field techs I work with on one of my managed projects potentially got exposed to Covid last Monday, and as a result we’ve had to quarantine all but one of them until they test negative. Because of this, that one guy is the only guy we can send out for on-site work. Normally we have 6-7 people, so this is a huge detriment, and since each project is located in a different state, we can’t exactly shift resources over to fill those gaps.
It’s been an interesting week. I’m glad I’ve reached my weekend.
Our closing manager called in sick Saturday night, claiming a fever of 103. The franchise’s CoVid policy says anybody calling in with symptoms consistent with the virus is off the schedule until they test negative. One of the other AM’s covered his shift, but neither of them were available to cover his Sunday close, and the general manager absolutely refuses to close, especially at the weekend (he’s a whole separate rant). The GM decided he was going to operate under the assumption the sick AM was malingering, and told him to report for his Sunday close.
I made the decision I wasn’t going to show up to work with a potentially CoVid-infected coworker, especially given the fact that one of my roommates had heart surgery two weeks ago. So, I begged off with a vague excuse. Last I heard, the sick guy called to say he was quarantining, and the GM was forced to work a double yesterday to cover the shift.
Someday, they’re going to hire a general manager that can do the job, and understands that it will require them to work at least some nights and weekends; someone who enforces policies, especially those that protect the employees and customers from infectious disease, even when it isn’t personally convenient. I hope they find that person before all the good people abandon them.
That was a 1960s thing, Toronto comes back and you’ll have to put up with American draft dodgers moving in again. I did look it up to see when their last win was.
Toronto Blue Shirts Challenge Cup 1914 twice
Toronto St. Patricks 1922
(Winnipeg Maple Leafs losses in 1901 and 1908)
Toronto Maple Leafs 1942, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1967
oh and for the record, i don’t drink in rl, nor do i currently work…but trust me at my old job, it wouldn’t have taken much to get me to rant like Frank Costanza.
I hate how every week when my workweek ends, I should be tired as hell and near to passing out within an hour of getting home, but somehow my body just perks right up and decides, “Nope, you don’t have to be anywhere tomorrow, so we’ll sleep when we’re dead for today.”
I ran a dungeon for the first time in years. A current one. I got a rock. But I did move my campaign along. Yes, it was stressful. The people were cool though. No big egos. I can only imagine what my blood pressure was.
