not wow related but has anyone ever dealt with a family member that has not paid property taxes and there is a very real chance the house will be auctioned off? my older, adult siblings live in my parents old house (mom is 85 and in a nursing home and dad passed away last year) and the ones that are living there, have not taken over the tax as promised and they have been avoiding contact from the city
 i don’t know what to say or even do at this point
 i don’t live there but i can see them trying to move in with me if they don’t smarten up

Ouch. Tough situation. I have not dealt with it personally, but have seen it happen.

It depends on the local laws and procedures. Some make it easy to contact the city and pay back taxes + any penalties. Others make it impossible and will sell the house from under an elderly person who was $10 off when writing a check that year.

If you want to know more you need to look up the property tax laws in their area. Yes, it is a very real possibility they will lose the house if they did not pay taxes.

A firm NO would likely be in order.

Pay the taxes yourself if you can. I had the same issue with my mom’s house. Then take over utilities and shut them off until the house is empty of the rif raf. Then go in clean it up repair it as needed and sell. I got 250 thousand for my trouble when I sold my Mom’s I now live mortgage-free somewhere else. It took 5 years to get it done and it was worth the effort.

Came to the forums looking for the ‘suggestions box’ and I guess it doesn’t exist anymore. I just figured I would stop by and say hello. I used to make friends with people here in 2008 and had a few besties that really helped me make it through my college years. I’m a lot different now and if any of them are around still, I hope they’re doing okay. Barolas, Laeli, others I don’t remember. But they were good people. Sending the present lots of love from the past. :heart:
