The way Blizzard currently distributes CC classes is bad given how unbalanced abilities have become over the past 3 years.
Warriors unchecked have way too many answers for casters in the form of stuns + a fear, and when done right they can global immunities on whoever they’re attacking from 40% health to 0 in less than 2 seconds. For the quality of PvP that’s unsustainable.
Locks and Mages can kite them fairly 1v1, but when you introduce a 2nd class that can introduce other “classes” of CC it quickly becomes an unfavorable match, and becomes 100% luck to survive.
Here’s an example: Warrior Charge does a 1 sec stun. Mage alters after stun and runs 10 yards before blinking. (Oh snap! Alter Time is dispelled!). War leaps to mage and bladestorms. Mage displaces (before it expires) and bladestorming warrior is still in melee range (stupid logic, but it happens all the time). While warrior bladestorms the Mage casts blastwave (which is immune to Pally Bubble, Rooted Targets (understandable) and frickin’ Bladestorm.
Question 1: Why can a mage blastwave a DK w/ abom limb (which was nerfed to F-ing hell), yet can’t knockback bladestorm? Answer: Because Bladestorm was designed by idiots. Anyway…
Alter time moves the mage to where it was initiated (if not purged by dispels or shaman). War charges (with 3 sec left on 2nd charge) and hamstrings mage. Mage blinks, and uses ice nova (if talented) to try and kite more. With luck, the mage (or lock) can attempt to cast a CC. Warrior at this point can cast spell reflect… which will likely ruin a caster’s chance to get a CC off. Meanwile, the 2nd dps on their team will see the caster is low on answers and will quickly become a 2v1 match that’s not in the caster’s favor. From there it’s rotten f-ing luck that a caster survives.
That doesn’t even account for the terrible design of several PvP maps (including the DF map introduced which is dog feces).
Long story short PvP balance is at it’s all time worst. Subs certainly show the only thing keeping WoW alive is non-retail content, and it’s retail content that’s driving numbers down. I’m not asking for devs to flip the script on game design, but rather take a long f-ing look at the dumb changes that were made in previous patches/iterations with respects to tuning, and start from scratch.
