This cross faction implementation is basically global merc mode. If I queue as void elf, I’m forced to play as blood elf if I enter bg as horde and stuck with their racials etc.
It’s not at all what the pvp community wanted. We wanted to play our classes with both horde and alliance, not be forced to change factions. It should be like battleground blitz where both factions are represented on both sides.
These changes are honestly a disgrace to the game.
As usual, by attempting to fix a problem there are a half dozen or so new problems that have arisen that now need to be addressed. Bravo!
All that needed to be done is to shuffle the factions up without any racial/transmog changes, exactly as it is in BGB.
This would have fixed the Queue syncing problem that plagues epic BGs. It would also mean communities such as the one I am in would be forced to play AGAINST eachother occasionally which would have been so much better overall for the health of the game. Sure my winrate would suffer but who cares, sometimes you need to think about what’s best for the game overall and not just you as an individual.
Now we are in some weird position where Horde queues are slower but we get more premades stacked on one side. Making solo queueing EVEN WORSE THAN IT WAS BEFORE.
The goal of this change was just to be able to play with your friends on the other faction, sure that goal has been achieved. But the cost is that the game is even more imbalanced now and unenjoyable for the average player. It’s a net negative.
20 years and this is what we finally get. The system had massive flaws before and was far from perfect, but somehow we have ended up worse off than before…I’ll say it again, it’s a disgrace.
I don’t care if I lose more games, make the game fair, fun and less confusing.
But when I solo Q, which is all the time, and I am playing Alliance, I don’t want to fight with the Horde on my side. Same with when I play on my Hordees.
Some of the best parts of this game are the RP aspects. In some games you stand in a Q lobby…and Q…friggin boring. This is not (only) a stand in lobby (trade) and Q game. Though, some do play it that way…and that is okay.
But don’t take the RP away from the rest of us, it’s kinda foundational to wow. I mean, sure, u have this in Blitz, go do it in Blitz, leave unrated to be faction specific. If you’re gonna merc, then merc, race change and all.
If you knew anything about lore (which you should do, because you are a self proclaimed RPer and play on an RP realm) you would know that all throughout Warcraft & WoWs history there have been defectors and traitors among the race/faction divide.
Take the Humans of Alterac for example during Warcraft 2 betraying the Alliance and siding with the horde. For which they were punished and the kingdom was destroyed. Which still can be seen in the game today.
Another example is the Goblins, at one stage they were impartial to both factions and focused only on profiting from the proceeds of war, fighting for both sides in the same war! This eventually changed over time and they became part of the Horde.
The RP argument is completely irrelevant, go back to the drawing board.
I think it’s a perfectly fair compromise and makes sense. It let’s you que with opposite faction friends while maintaining Alliance vs Horde fantasy. Besides, it’s randoms, so racials shouldn’t really matter.
Watch this space, this change is going to have unintended consequences and will possibly allow premades to dodge other premades easier than before. This is bad for solo players.
It appears the matchmaking is weighted towards putting premades against other premades ONLY if the group is mixed faction. The end result of this is premades will remain one faction only and obliterate mostly solo players of the opposite faction.
All they had to do was use the existing queue system that Blitz does.
It would have been consistent with it’s rated solo equivalent.
We asked for something very simple and they put the Blizzard spin on it.
Not me…
…Well I have Horde characters because i wanted to try them obviously but Ive Always been a ‘bluey’ at heart.
Its an MMO and the ALLIANCE is the team to be !!!
Blizz (or whoever owns this game now) is making this game easier and easier to quit as time goes on…WoW
EDIT: NVM, im an idiot, after some more reading the game forums should be fine for solo players, this change (?) was made for groups…(i hope)
It’s not what you wanted, OP.
It’s exactly what I wanted. Hell, it’s what most of my friends group wanted.
The RP-PvP groups I run with would have just quit the game if they were forced to play with an undead when they picked Alliance for a reason. Some of us actually like Warcraft as more than just a generic MMORPG.
Battlegrounds are Horde vs Alliance, and it’s nice that they actually preserved the illusion of it for those of us who enjoy the OG feel of the game.
Don’t want to merc mode? Don’t queue with an Alliance leader. You can be the leader and get the faster queue too.
If it’s forcing you onto the opposite team without a group, it’s very likely a bug.
The implementation is perfect. If you want to fight with the Alliance, you’re going to look like Alliance. If you don’t want it to matter, ranked is for you.
My understanding is that the faction majority and not the group lead is what decides the faction the group queues as. I haven’t done any tonight myself, going on what the other leaders have discussed.
