Crazy Noob Things You Used To Do

…and maybe still do?

I used to keyturn and click my spells. But that’s just the noob part. The crazy part is that I used to play cross-handed.

What kind of crazy noob things did you do (and maybe still do?)

No one ever taught me how to play the game or any console game, so I taught myself how to play from the right side instead of the left side of the keyboard. I tried to switch to the expected key layout but it was already programmed into my head so I just play it my way and it works for me.

Main a ret paladin.

My prot paladin is my tailoring alt.

(I just wanted a character who could wander anywhere to kill mobs and be essentially invincible. Prot pally is mostly that.)

Way back in Vanilla when I started and you needed to pay for your skills from a trainer, I rolled a Mage and upon getting my first talent point decided I was going to be a fire mage.

Apparently to 2004 me that also meant I no longer needed to buy frost spells, so I didn’t have ANY frost spells from level 10 or higher. I didn’t even have frost nova.

Around level 20, I would reroll Hunter because I didn’t like how easily I died.

Thankfully for that Hunter, I figured it out.

I didn’t find out about talent trees until level 40 or so. And for a long time in Auberdine, I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t mouseover something and get a headshot…

I used to think my battle pets functioned like VWs or hunter pets.

I was in Teldrassil on my Worgen trying to get my pet deer to attack something. :man_facepalming:

When I first started playing, myself and 2 friends didn’t know what the “holy trinity” was soooooo… we use to run dungeons at level, 2 locks and a mage… DoH!!

I still remember a Rogue we had in a Strat UD group we were trying to figure out why his DPS was so low, so we asked him about his talents.

and his response was “what are talents?”.

Dude got to max level without any talent points apparently.

Play all classes

I do this. Moreso in classic for some reason.
Things like mineral finding, pally aura, etc. On retail it’s toys like my foam sword for old world quests that I would otherwise one shot.

Get a quest and go do it
Turn it in, get another quest and go do it

I have a bunch of stuff on my Classic character too that I click. Mostly things I’ve deemed “not vital in combat”, like Power Word Fortitude.

On retail my side bar is nothing but transformation toys and hearthstones.

I keyboard turn to this day and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it in the appropriate situations.

How far back are we talking?

Back in 2005, I didn’t know I could repair armor or vendor junk until I was somewhere between level 25 and 30 on this character. When armor broke (which happened a lot as a noob with all the deaths), I thought it was just shot for good and would destroy it and hope a replacement would drop. Naturally I was also extremely broke from never having sold anything.

I think i tried to buy cloth gear for my pally at lvl 10 , thankfully my friend stopped me

I was still a clicker up until five or six months ago. Not that I couldn’t before, it was just I was lazy and could not be bothered keybinding and when my friend and I were doing the Brawler’s guild and I was watching her doing triple the damage I was as her arms warrior and just having an easier time doing the guild than I was, I decided to start keybinding instead of clicking. Having done it for a while now, I wonder how in the hell I ever was a clicker.
