Cats do help for mice, but it sounds like you have a small hole( or more) that mice use to get into your place. I had a similar problem and found it was behind the stove where the gas line came through. I packed the opening with aluminum foil and that fixed it.

Okay, and I can’t believe I forgot this bit. Pay attention because this is the BEST thing about cats:
They stalk and kill spiders. Not all cats. Some are totally uninterested…but if you get a spider killin’ cat and a good silicone jar opener, you don’t have to marry young. I’m just sayin’

Cats are great. I have one who is basically my little spoon when I sleep. She sits on me and watches TV for hours.
I miss my cats
I’m more likely to assume that a person with a lot of animals has been emotionally injured. CRAZY? No I wouldn’t say that, but I have watched my female friends that I’ve known since high school (class of '05) get hurt by men and progressively collect more and more animals. One of my most damaged friends has 2 dogs, a cat, a bearded dragon (think that’s what it’s called), a whole freaking family of rats, like a at least a half dozen, various snakes, spiders, and insects. Every time she finds a new man to hurt her she gets more creatures in her apartment.
This is so important where I live in Australia! However, sometimes my cats do bring huge funnelweb spiders into the house to play with!
I have six cats, they are wonderful. They also keep snakes away, and I live in a Brown snake area.
We had a gorgeous Diamond Python in our garden last year, she was about 3 metres long, and she didn’t care at all about the cats, who stood in a semi circle looking up at her on our Rabbits’ Aviary. We kept the cats locked in the house until she moved on!

My girlfriend’s house is currently inundated with kittens. She caught one in the bushes, gave it to her daughter, there’s another one still out there, plus the mom, plus twin black kittens a few weeks older just showed up. I’d take a few even but it’s mad expensive to have pets at my place. I really hate to see anything happen to them other than be given a good home.

They’re remarkably effective at keeping rodents under control.
Decades ago when my parents moved into the house that I grew up in, the place was totally overrun by critters of all types, with the yard being spongey from moles, part of the house’s wiring wrecked by squirrels, etc. Picked up 3-4 cats and in less than a year critter populations were much more manageable.
(note that this was out in the woodsy countryside where there’s so much wildlife a cat couldn’t possibly make a dent in the area’s overall ecology, in urban/suburban areas I keep my cats inside)
Like my kitty who walks through the apartment yeowling when either or my roommate is out for a few hours. Or back before covid hit, how he’d demand for me to pick him up and nuzzle him after I came home from work (he’s been quite please with the work from home business).
For one thing this thread makes this toon happy as a self proclaimed crazy cat lady. Seriously look at her stable. I’ll be getting the rest in Shadowlands.
Two, my little princess is the queen of the house but she’s one of those ‘there will not be another cat in this house this is MY territory’ type of girl. She’s making sure we don’t get another cat. How do we know this? When neighborhood cats come by and she sees it she screams like she’s dying. XD

Thank you. I almost edited my post to say it, more people need to adopt from shelters. Makes me sad anytime I see folks boasting about how much they paid for a pet from a breeder when so many animals are being put down in shelters every year.
