Crashing, freezing, and stuttering after 8.3 [Intel GPUs]

Where were you in game when the crash happened?:
This crash has happened in any location, grouped and ungrouped, instanced and open world.
What were you doing when the crash happened?:
Typically killing a mob, but the crash has happened when I’m just standing around too. Typically happens when theres a lot of spell animations going off at one time.
What error message did you get (if any)?:
No error messages, as the computer completely resets.
What character/class you were playing when it happened?:
Vulpera Priest
Was there any other notable behavior before the lockup occurred or anything you want to add?:
Like I said above, it generally happens when theres a lot of spell animations that go off at once. I can typically quest on an alt by myself with no issues, but the second another player comes by and starts attacking a mob, I’m risking a crash. Group content, or killing a mob with a lot of other players is impossible unless I face my camera straight down with no other players visible. Visions are risky too, tends to free when I’m fighting multiple mobs.

Got on today - checked mail. Was my notification to my guild leader that I cannot raid.
My computer froze while I was standing in boralus- freeze time - 3 minutes.
I wasn’t fighting or doing anything. Just froze.
I guess this means I’m done. Raiding and hanging with my friends. I can’t even type in guild chat because half the time I’m watching the spinning wheel.
If I try to quest I usually die during any kind of fight. So - No getting any further.
So… blizzard. Soon you won’t have a problem. Because all the Mac folks will just leave. - Problem solved.
you will lose millions - I’ve done the math.

OMFG a blue post! Thanks for saying something.

It is crazy you guys can’t see the issue, it means the coding team isn’t testing the code and that is just sad. Anyway,

Defending the Maelstrom quest, will be a great example of the issue. You can not do much before it locks up.

No, that’s why I’m glad I canceled my pre-order and refuse to buy shadowland and re sub I am the kind of idiot that blows money on games so I am a whale they lost

The game knowingly not being playable on an os pre patch yet advertised that it is equates to false advertising. My MacBook may not have space for it and Boot Camp but that sure as hell doesn’t mean I will Boot Camp my iMac just to play a game

I’m literally selling my Mac when I’m off work and buy a windows laptop lmao

Thanks for the update.

Where were you in game when the crash happened?: Anywhere where a lot of activity is going on. Killing a rare, attacking the king in the Uldum Lesser Vision of NZoth (freezing killed me and locked me out for the day), doing a "repel the naga" world quest, and so on.

What were you doing when the crash happened?: kicking NPC butt

What error message did you get (if any)?: no error message

What character/class you were playing when it happened?: Dowsabel, 120 undead arms warrior

Was there any other notable behavior before the lockup occurred or anything you want to add?: nothing before, but noticed that sound/music continues after the freeze as if the game is still going, but there is no response to input

I’m so glad I didn’t pre-order Shadowlands. 3 weeks ago they had perfectly working code on this platform and yet they screwed up development so bad that on a .3 patch they have ‘a complicated thread to unravel’. This is 2020 and I feel like we are back in the mid 1990’s. Even if they manage to get this one fixed, you know that any Mac issues in the future are going to be treated with the same level of sub par urgency and priority. Sorry Blizzard I’m done. Sub cancelled, 65GB of HD space freed. Now I can fill the space up with a game (or games) from a company that actually supports and cares about users of this platform. Good Luck to anyone who is actually sticking this out.

Got a request to take a survey of how CS is doing after I opened a ticket. Oh this will be “fun”…

NOT!! I fill in the survey bubbles, and when I get to the question:

“Is there anything else you would like to tell us? What could we have done to make this a better experience for you?”

You better believe it! I start typing. About 5 sentences in I notice the “Submit” button is greyed out. What?! Not even this works?! Something tells me CS is out to lunch on anything Mac. OK, I will copy my reply to this forum. No cannot even do that…

OK, here goes, again. Two weeks in I have lost many gearing opportunities. Let’s start with weekly quests. No Mythic dungeon weekly (Jan 14) quest rewards (9 @120 that i play daily), and I anticipate this week’s Timewalking cache I will also miss out on. Then there are the world bosses that I cannot get because my game freezes and crashes, forces complete restarts for those… Spent 1/2 hour trying to get the one in the Vale on 1 toon only… Visions?! LOLOLOL Three Vessels burned on crashes on the Stormwind Cathedral steps and a number of failed minor visions. Dear Blizzard: you want to make it a better experience?!

  1. daily updates for us
  2. give us the gear caches on weekly quest content we are unable to do because of crashes (dungeons)
  3. fix it asap
  4. replace lost Vessels
  5. Never do this again. Work out these issues in the Beta and ptr, not weeks after release! Why would any of us, at this point, feel like we can trust that 9.0 would be any different.
  6. At least a month of free game time to make up for all we lost these past 2 weeks. Maybe a discount on Shadowlands, since chances are it will not work. either…

Maybe I ask a lot, but this “bug” is a giant cockroach and I am experiencing a lot of “emotional distress” from losing my raid spot and missing out on 9 toons’ Mythic + caches for the past 2 weeks.

Please CS, take this as my feedback on your CS Survey.

Yea, none of that is going to happen. We are at least a month out for a fix and we will be lucky if it’s 5 days free or something dumb.

They seem to be trying to fix it by looking at code and being told what the issues are. But that isn’t easy. Being smart, someone would get an Iris MacBook and see the issue. This is so much easier than what they are doing. So another two to three weeks for the blind fix. Then a week of testing, which is then sending out of house to some smaller slow company. Then a week to plan the patch release. So yea a month, at least.

The bad part is, Apple would help. Heck, you could call CS and tell them you are Blizzard and your customers are getting the error code (which is posted above) and Apple will tell you why. Yes, it might take a few hours maybe even a day or two. But Apple would help. But no one has thought of something so easy.

I had a good attitude about this in the beginning but my patience is waining very thin now. The updates are just more of the same and doesn’t seem to even imply that there will be a fix.

Hey sport, let me tell you where I’m at with this. I purchased the game and game time. This established a contract. The game says “minimum requirements to play World of Warcraft” and establishes them for both Windows and Mac. My computer, a 2018 MacBook Pro, sits well within the parameters established by the agreement. Now, I’m paying for a product that I can’t use. This is called a breach of contract. This breach is occurring across a number of states. This means a lawsuit for breach of contract would be most amenable to federal court. Rule 23a of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedures discusses the numbers needed to be certified as a class action. From the extent of this thread, I think we’re easily there. See where I’m going with this? I didn’t sign up for a beta test and I object to you using me as one. I want what I’m paying for.

At just over 1k posts here and next to nothing on twitter, we are a very low minority and a small blip on their radar it seems

I tweeted, we need a hashtag and to all group up. I’m just pissy at this point. I never would have renewed 4 accounts for 6 months for my family if I knew I wasn’t going to be able to play.

over 23K unique views yesterday. minority? yes, small? not really.and not everyone with these problems is viewing this post. Mac represents 5-10 % of personal computer sales?

There is likely a character limit in place to force players to be concise with their feedback. Otherwise they’d get walls of text that are hard to read and/or sift through. Most online forms have character limits, so this isn’t really out of the ordinary.
